While some Republicans may have been bewildered by Clint Eastwood’s address at the RNC, I think they should be happy about things.

First, despite the unorthodox delivery, most of the delegates liked what they heard and were laughing and applauding with him.

Second, the liberal media isn’t complaining aboout Mitt Romney being an extremist. Instead they’re getting “misty” over Clint. After Eastwood played the crazy but funny uncle, Romney came across as a downright normal guy who wants “to help you and your family” instead of lowering the rising tides of the ocean.

Third, ditto about President Obama. Instead of tweeting about Romney, he’s tweeting about Eastwood. Again, Eastwood makes Romney look normal and reasonable, not someone who would willingly let the spouse of a former employee die of cancer.

Should Romney win in November, Republicans will remember Eastwood’s speech with good cheer.

It was unusual, unscripted and a net positive. In fact, Clint Eastwood may have started a trend. How many others during this campaign will try the same type of humor to ridicule Obama? There is so much more material to cover One improvement; instead of an empty chair, try an empty-suit.

The Eastwood routine (and he intended it to be a routine) was a direct homage to the great Bob Newhart's work. Bob would probably call it a rip-off. If you're not over 55 or a student of the comedy greats it might go over you head, I guess. Newhart would use a telephone, not a chair. Eastwood's choice of a chair was pointed and brilliant in this instance.

I thought it was just about genius, given the venue, for Eastwood to go this route, and at age 82 I bet he wasn't concerned if most didn't get the classic comedy reference. His political points were unambiguous.

To read all the insinuations and direct comments claiming he's experiencing some level of mental decline was just sad for me. There seems to be lot of liberal talking/tweeting heads out there who've lived very small lives interacting with people just like them, all in a very small space. If they don't understand a senior then the senior is mentally deficient.

Doesn't occur to them that they simply don't get the joke.

My only criticism is that Eastwood should have appeared before the Main Romney Video -- not directly before Rubio.

No surprise that the left is attacking Eastwood's sanity ...

the alternative would be debating Obama's substance.

Romney and his surrogates should start bringing empty chairs to all thier speeches from now on and asking them questions as Eastwood did. Over at Brietbart there is a headline about the Obama trip to New Orleans "Empty chair to visit New Orleans". Watch the meme take off as Obama is increasingly refered to as "Empty Chair." I think Clint's move was brilliant.

Clint's schtick went right over the heads of the morons on the left.

It's too bad that Lee Van Cleef and Eli Wallach didn't join Clint on-stage for a reunion of The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. Yes, I know Van Cleef is dead and Wallach is 97 years old but still.......

Cobalt| 9.1.12 @ 10:25AM

They wouldn't do it, but Obama and Moochelle could substitute for "the bad, and the ugly."

Eastwood was our funny uncle and I thought his routine was hilarious.
Eastwood was on stage to make valid political points using schtick and dry humor.
Unfortunately for all Americans ,
at the Democrat convention
the deranged grandpa in the attic is
not the entertainment,
but, the Vice President.
I think Eastwood was also spoofing Biden.

Carmela| 9.1.12 @ 1:53PM

There was nothing crazy or nutty about what Clint did. It was brilliant, hilarious and devastatingly on point. Which is why the Dems are apoplectic over it.

Zeppo| 9.1.12 @ 2:59PM

Clint was a breath of fresh air and his bit is the only thing that anyone will remember a month or two from now. As for Mitt, he can stay the hell away from me and my family, thanks very much. We are electing a chief magistrate here, not a benevolent despot.

Any Republican who dislikes, feels embarrassed by or has doubts concerning the efficacy of Eastwood's routine is an idiot, and incapable of trustworthy conservative commentary.

Rich D| 9.1.12 @ 11:02PM

It was also brilliant to put a teleprompter in front of the empty chair. The news feeds avoided showing it for the most part.
