Leave it to
the Dowdy one to (in the words of a former baseball coach of
mine) go bat-sh*+-crazy in her description of “core conservatives.”
As I blogged at CFIF:
The writing sins there are abundant: extreme triteness (gee, it
is just so original and clever to call
conservatives “troglodytes” and “antediluvians” — although one does
wonder, as a matter of chronology, how we can be troglodytes and
“medieval” at the same time), breathless overstatement not as
intentional irony but as an actual attempt at persuasion, and
blind, over-broad, demonizing assertions unmoored from proof.
Again, please read
my whole post.

Maureen Dowd is still writing?
squalis| 8.22.12 @ 1:12PM
And if so, who is still reading her garbage?
Tom Kyba| 8.22.12 @ 12:52PM
Maureen what? Dowd who?

Typical leftist rhetoric, trying to use flowery language and appealing to emotions to obfuscate the truth and mislead their followers. It doesn't take very many brains to pull out your thesaurus, take out a few words that look nice, pair them with anti-this and anti-that, sprinkle a little blame here and there, and come out with the kind of garbage that gets printed on the NYT. The title of that article also doesn't require very many brains to follow: she is instructing her followers to just think no. Don't think about how abortion is the deliberate destruction of a human life for the pleasure of the left, no matter how many times they try to use rape to justify it. Just think no.
George Orwell in 1946 wrote a great piece on how fancy language used in politics serves to obscure truth, rather than communicate it.
https://www.mtholyoke.edu/acad/intrel/orwell46.htm
"Political language [...] is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind."
This was in 1946, after leftist rhetoric around the world sparked a war and resulted in the deaths of millions of people. Leftists never change. Their rhetoric is becoming more and more incendiary. What will come next? As Jeffrey Lord posted yesterday, [when] will the 2012 campaign get violent?

The unemployment rate and gas prices go up, Romney wins. All else is dross.
Bob S| 8.22.12 @ 7:22PM
How convenient, then, that Obama has a huge campaign tool in the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.
Occam's Tool| 8.22.12 @ 7:39PM
Yes, that is dangerous. However, it is also counterable by Romney. The unemployment rate is the more important of the two, and, to paraphrase a famous poster, one really cannot "continue the beatings until morale improves."
Obama has really pissed off small business owners throughout the US, and major companies are waiting to invest until they find out the results of the election. No new investment, therefore, no new jobs.
Thanks for the kindness, Cobalt. You do beautiful work.
Occam's Tool| 8.22.12 @ 7:40PM
And Bob S---nice comment. Strategic thinking is needed on our side.
RCV| 8.22.12 @ 9:26PM
He will tap the reserve. And he will do so with an announcement that it is to deny Iran the profit from rising gas prices due to the effective embargo on their oil. And it will be a popular move, irrespective of what Romney says.
The Iran-Syria crisis will come to a head before November, perhaps with a pre-emptive strike by Israel, which Obama will sanction ("Every nation
has the right to defend itself. While I would have preferred to have this problem solved through diplomacy, Iran has rejected all such efforts. Therefore, Israel was left with little choice than to do what it had to do to insure that Iran did not develop the nuclear capabilities it was headed for."
You guys are dreaming if you think this election will be about gas prices and unemployment in November. It's about abortion right now, and the refusal of the GOP to allow any exception for women who were raped, the victims of incest, or whose health is threatened by continued pregnancy. And it's also about the fears of Florida seniors that Romney and Ryan plan to take their Medicare away. Ryan's choice may have bolstered Romney's chance of capturing Wisconsin, but it will surely cost him Florida.
Dai Alanye | 8.23.12 @ 12:22AM
Democrat desperation leads one to believe they'll make plenty of mistakes before November, thereby countering the occasional Republican slip-up. We can expect the Akin fuss to blow over by the time the next Obama gaffe is committed.
As for Florida, Ryan and his mom trump Biden and his big mouth.
Cobalt| 8.22.12 @ 2:31PM
You sir, Occam's Tool, are absolutely correct.
Maureen Dowd is just another diversion, as is most everything put out by the media.
spike59| 8.23.12 @ 6:15AM
and not a particularly shiny one these days; Glamour Shots can only do so much once you've passed the 60 yr mark and been as 'active' as the Dowdy one
murphy| 8.22.12 @ 4:23PM
During your Maureen Dowd blog you are under the assumption that antediluvian and medieval are of the same epoch. Antediluvian is Biblical, as in before the Flood. Of course we are all certain troglodytes preceeded the Flood by 1,962 years. So the next time you choose to offer a Biblical reference, read the book first.
Bob S| 8.22.12 @ 7:22PM
Oh wow you're so clever.
Quin Hillyer| 8.22.12 @ 11:05PM
Just the opposite. I note that SHE has us as antediluvian and medieval at the same time, and make fun of her for it.
spike59| 8.23.12 @ 6:08AM
murph, it might do you some good to read and think before flying off the handle; that is, unless you enjoy looking like a fool

Saw her on some late night show a number of years ago. Was somewhat surprised to see that this nationally syndicated NY Times columnist was witless, humorless, uninformed, and, frankly, dull.
She's a joke. The New York Times is a joke. The left is a joke. Little rodents scurrying around poking fingers.

With respect, I'm not sure "On Maureen Dowd" is the best way of phrasing it...
Oldefarte| 8.22.12 @ 9:26PM
Shove her out the taxicab door at 2AM onto a Harlem street, and then see how fast she converts from being a liberal Democrat to conservative Republican!!!!!

as the dethroning of The One approaches, his lackeys and flying monkeys are growing increasingly agitated and panicky, flinging their verbal poo in all directions
