TAMPA — Lena Horne, call your office. In addition to all
its other heartaches and potential problems, next week’s Republican
National Convention in Tampa may be in for a dose of stormy
weather.
Tropical Depression 9 is just some harmless fussy weather in the
Atlantic now Tuesday. But it’s scheduled to
be Hurricane Isaac in a couple of days, probably a
category two, and paying a visit to Hispaniola and
Cuba.
Isaac’s current straight westerly path would take it well south
of Florida. But it almost certainly won’t stay on this path. The
weather elves say that when the high pressure system north of the
storm moves off, the storm will turn north. If that high pressure
moves off fairly early, Isaac will spin harmlessly into the
Atlantic, well east of the United States. If the system moves off
later, the storm will turn north later, putting the U.S. in its
path.
Even with the late northerly turn there is plenty of territory
Isaac could bedevil. But one of the possible destinations for a
late-turning Isaac is the west coast of Florida and Tampa. Mother
Nature, you see, is non-partisan.
National Republican officials will soon understand why this time
of year Floridians watch more weather reports but enjoy them
less.

You tell us of the possible hurricane but ignore the coming of Joe (Shakes) Biden? Many speculate that this is some attempt at distracting from the convention but I think Shakes may just be visiting former colleagues in Gibtown.

For those of you who are not familiar, Gibtown is really Gibsonton, a place where circus freaks and clowns used to spend their winter. Lobsterboy was one of the notable freaks.

I'd be more concerned about the OWS storm, for all attending, be safe, take lots of video and stay with a group.
My thoughts and prayers are with the police and their families, they will have a tough job.

TAMPA, Fla. - Tampa police said Tuesday that they confiscated pipes, bricks and other "suspicious" items from the rooftop of a downtown building located about a mile from where next week's Republican National Convention will be held.
Tampa Police Chief Jane Castor said she believes the items were put there by protesters for use during RNC demonstrations. She added that some RNC-related graffiti was also found at the building, but wouldn't elaborate.
"It is disconcerting but it's not surprising," she said. "This is normally how things proceed leading up to a large event."

Unfortunately, Lena Horne can't call her office much less call the tune. She left this mortal coil in May 2010.

Funny that the Republican Party put political concerns above weather concerns when they scheduled a Convention in the Southeast during hurricane season. It serves them right. And of course having a Convention in the searing Tampa heat will not win the Republicans one extra vote in November. Even the wonderful Greek food at Tarpon Springs isn't worth the risk.
Just as stupid is the Democratic decision to place a Convention in Charlotte. North Carolina is probably not in play this year and if it was 2012 will be another Obama landslide. Having the donkeyvention in Charlotte will not help with one North Carolina voter. Moreover, not only does Charlotte have its own heat issues in early September, the gourmands that make up the financial backbone of the Democratic Party will be disappointed at the lack of world class restaurants in Charlotte. One Democratic operative I know glumly claims that Charlotte has only three places in the whole city worth eating at. The sacrifices the political class must endure!
The Republicans would be wise to schedule their next Convention in some place like Annapolis, MD so the delegates could dine on the best crabs in the world, go rock fishing at Chesapeake Beach, and drink some delicious Heavy Seas beer brewed in Baltimore.

1968 and 1972 RNC were held in Miami. Lots of rain in '68 as I recall.

I'm confident the Republicans will manage to blow their foot off, hurricane or no hurricane. So I don't see how this changes anything.

Rumours of a false flag operation organized by WH operatives are competing with Isaac right now.

Oh Toto, with this war on women, I'm GLAD we aren't in Kansas anymore...

Breaking news reports the Mayor of Tampa is proposing to cancel all conventions and close the hotels in his town due to the hurricane.
No confirmation of this but nonetheless very interesting.
Al Adab| 8.22.12 @ 3:12PM
CBS reports the Mayor as saying he is "prepared" to call off the convention if needed to protect Tampas' people.
Poly Ester| 8.22.12 @ 4:08PM
It is interesting that there could be an Occupy protest during a hurricane, especially one named Isaac. So, along with the idiot weatherpeople standing out in the extreme weather bringing us the conditions, we will have the idiot newspeople covering the Occuputters standing out in the extreme weather too. Serves them right. It proves God has a sense of humor.

First Akin was told by God to run, than THIS, maybe he is sending a message....'Forward 2012'

The Republicans are ON this, they got a former FEMA Director managing the situation, Attaboy—Brownie, you're doing a heck of a job!
