After Missouri U.S. Senate candidate Todd Akin’s well-reported
idiotic statement on rape, big Republican names all over the
country are calling on him to drop out of the race. Now I read that
unless he drops out by tomorrow, the Missouri state party would be
unable legally to replace him. Time is definitely a-wasting. This
calls for the big guns. Both George Bushes, Nancy Reagan, Michael
Reagan, and Bob and Elizabeth Dole should all put out a joint
statement demanding that Akin get out of the race. Behind the
scenes, Dick Cheney and others should all Akin and read him the
riot act, explaining that they will make sure he has no chance to
win if he stays in.
Some mistakes are politically inexcusable. Akin made such a
mistake. Somebody needs to put the fear of God into him.

The comments I have seen have the establishment replacing Akin with a liberal like Talent, directly contrary to the wishes of the Missouri electorate. Imposing Political Correctness on candidates in this way will result only in leftist drones for all offices. It is an EXTREMELY bad principle.
That's not to say Akin was a great candidate -- he was backed by the Huckster. Nor do I agree with what he said. But we should defend to the last the ability of people, even politicians, to make un-PC statements and not launch McCarthyite witch-hunts against them.

Respectfully disagree. Here's why: Mr. Akin certainly has the right to speak his mind freely; however, in the present context he was speaking as a representative of the Republican Party. It is therefore entirely appropriate for the party with which he claims to be affiliated to hold him accountable for remarks that are not only inconsistent with its values, but factually incorrect.
Frankly, I find it refreshing that a party actually has the moral courage to criticize it's own members when their words or actions are reprehensible. What a stark contrast to the Democrats' reaction (or lack thereof) to the disgraceful behavior of representatives like Mr. Weiner.

Akin made an unrecoverable error, he needs to go and the only replacement should be Brunner or Steelman, introducing a new candidate is a bad idea. Time is short, from PJM

He really can't win with this one.

It is likely that this will cost the GOP its chance at the MO electoral votes. Disaster.
This is where the GOP needs to welcome the double standard and oust this guy. Does not the MO party have the huevos to do so? Our candidates need to be held to a higher standard, to be above reproach. The voters can see who makes esxcuses and who expects high quality.

Paul Ryan ALSO shares this opinion, he and Akin tried to get the EXACT same sort of language into a bill restriction abortion, the whole nine yards, 'Forcible Rape', 'Person hood' Bills etc.

Could someone please translate this comment into English?

WHO CARES what either Bush, Nancy Reagan, or Bob & Elizabeth Dole think about this, Mr. Hillyer?
Kingofthenet| 8.20.12 @ 4:27PM
It doesn't matter if he leaves the race or not, ANYONE coming into the race now is a 'Bench-Warmer' second rate and will lose to Senator Claire McCaskill in a LANDSLIDE

So be it. Unlike our liberal counterparts, we recognize that there's no victory (and certainly no honor) in winning with a dishonorable candidate.
