If the president supports the troops, as he so often claims, he
sure has a funny way of showing it.
The Obama for America campaign, the Democratic National
Committee, and the Democratic Party of Ohio quietly filed a
lawsuit on July 17th trying to limit the number of days which
members of Armed Forces have to participate in that state’s early
voting.
Multiple veterans organizations are
opposing the lawsuit.
To be clear, members of our military currently get three days
longer to participate in early voting in Ohio than do other
citizens, though favorable treatment for military service members
is common-place throughout state, local, and federal election law
due to the potential difficulty of voting for a soldier, sailor,
airman, or Marine who is, or is about to be, stationed
overseas.
For example, many states authorize ballots to be sent to
military service members earlier than to others, or have special
ballots for the military.
So why sue Ohio? Because it is one of the most critical swing
states in the 2012 election…or in any presidential election. In
fact, no Republican has ever won the presidency without winning
Ohio.
For President Obama, he supports the troops, but not so far as
to actually make sure they can vote.
This should be hung around Obama’s neck by Mitt Romney and his
surrogates every single day.

Big O doesn't want the military voting in this election? Well, duh!
RJ| 8.3.12 @ 5:01PM
So Obama is following the Al Gore tradition of denying the members of the armed forces the right to vote. I wouldn't have expected anything. He must be defeated.
Butch| 8.3.12 @ 5:16PM
Hussain Obama, meet Al Gore. I believe Gore was actually successful in his suit, on the grounds that the military used their own transportation to deliver the ballots, to save postage for the taxpayers. No good deed goes unpunished in the Dem's quest for electoral success.
JD| 8.3.12 @ 5:47PM
Contrast this effort with Obama's efforts to ensure that minorities, illegals, and dead people can vote.
mike 3/505| 8.3.12 @ 6:10PM
Ross,
Even more egregious, he is demanding that there is means testing for TRICARE copay and annual fees for Military Retirees, a clear violation of a sacred contract.

If Barry really, REALLY backed the troops as much as he does he would spend a quality morning with a few of the grunts at the range. Nothing to heavy, maybe a couple three hours at the rifle range and then switch up to the pistole range. I have read that the 45ACP is back to
THE side arm now.
After that maybe a few hours out of sight of the cameras with a few of the Wounded Warriors on a ten mile bike ride. Both Barry and Mooch-hell could show their great conditioning that I read about in the press.
Jake| 8.4.12 @ 12:53PM
The past two years , President George W Bush has ridden with Wounded Warriors on a 3 day 100k bike ride through rough terrain.
It's known as W100 and is part of the " Military Service Initiative of the Bush Presidential Center,
created to highlight the bravery and sacrifice of American service members as well as spotlight organizations
like the Wounded Warrior Project
that aid injured soldiers. "
This year , they rode through Texas’s Palo Duro Canyon State Park and last year they rode through Big Bend Ranch State Park in Texas.
President Bush is also hosting a golf tournament for the second year.
This year The Warrior Open , a 36-hole competition , will be held at Las Colinas Country Club in the Dallas area on September 24-25, 2012.
More info on President Bush's organization here-http://www.w100k.com/
Great pics of a Commander in Chief who actually cared about the troops plus inspiring stories from Wounded Warriors.
Maxwell| 8.4.12 @ 4:03PM
Jake, first thank you for the reply. I added the Wounded Warriors part just because of what 'W' has been doing. While there are many positions that 'W' took that I do not agree with, I have to give praise where it is due.
Barry on the other hand, I will have to defer to TLP who posts here & states it better than I do.
CJW| 8.4.12 @ 9:24AM
Where are the Obama trolls to defend this? They oppose voter ID so that the dead and illegals can vote, but oppose allowing time for the military to vote.
Teflon93 | 8.4.12 @ 1:51PM
They are cowards.
Glen H| 8.4.12 @ 8:30PM
The AP take on this is that the Dems are suing to give everyone the same extra three days. If this is true, it seems to put a less sinister take on it.
Jacob Dolson Cox| 8.6.12 @ 8:18AM
It’s more complicated than that. Some Ohio counties did not have the personnel or the funds (or both) to extend early voting through the weekend before the general election, and so they ended early voting the Friday before; other Ohio counties permitted early voting through the weekend. The state legislature standardized early-voting procedures across the state so that no county would have an “advantage” over any other county. An exception was created, however, for serving military, since their duties might otherwise prevent them from voting.
DRed| 8.5.12 @ 6:07PM
This is from the actual complaint:
Plaintiffs seek a declaratory judgment, preliminary injunction, and permanent injunction prohibiting Defendantsfrom implementing or enforcing the HB 224 and SB 295 changes to Ohio Rev. Code§ 3509.03, thereby restoring in-person absentee voting on the three days immediately preceding Election Day for all Ohio voters.”
The lawsuit seeks to restore early voting in Ohio for ALL Ohio voters. Win or lose, this won't do one single thing to effect the voting rights of military members.
Nick| 8.5.12 @ 6:51PM
Wrong, DRed.
Ohioans are still able to vote early: "With the changes, most Ohioans now have until the Friday evening before the Tuesday election to cast a ballot in person. But military voters can continue to vote in person until Monday. [...] Attorney General Mike DeWine’s office noted that all Ohioans have numerous voting options that include casting an absentee by mail starting 35 days before the election, casting an in-person ballot on other days, and voting at their polling location on Election Day."
There are many state and federal laws that treat military voters differently. Why is the O'Bama regime only suing Ohio?
And, are the 15 military organizations who are opposing the democrat's lawsuit wrong?
This is yet another example of the democrat party's disdain for the brave members of the military, who sacrifice everything on behalf of all Americans.
DRed| 8.5.12 @ 7:42PM
You need to work on your reading comprehension. If the lawsuit succeeds, everyone in Ohio gets the same voting options as members of the military. If the suit fails, military members have more options. Here's the important thing: neither outcome will lessen the options for members of the military.
Nick| 8.5.12 @ 8:16PM
"You need to work on your reading comprehension."
Pot calling kettle, DRed. Everyone here sees how you misuse words. Besides, you were totally inaccurate when you wrote: "The lawsuit seeks to restore early voting in Ohio for ALL Ohio voters."
Ohio voters still may vote early.
Who has the reading problem again?
"Here's the important thing: neither outcome will lessen the options for members of the military."
No, changing the law did nothing to lessen the options of any Ohioan. Except, for voting in-person 3 days before the election.
The AP article, to which Mr. Kaminsky provided a link, doesn't give a specific reason for the change in the law, but, I would surmise it was to stop all the chicanery that happens at democrat precincts leading up to election-day.
Again, there are many states which treat military voters differently. There is nothing wrong with this. Why does the O'Bama regime hate the military so much?
Also, I see you still have no answer to why it is okay for you to discriminate against polygamists, bi-sexuals, and incest practitioners, from the other thread.
What about the liberal leeches who take our tax money? Do you have an answer for that one?
DRed| 8.5.12 @ 8:27PM
How is Obama discriminating against the military by not doing anything whatsoever to restrict their voting opportunities? Are you being deliberately obtuse?
Nick| 8.5.12 @ 8:47PM
Why do you always ignore the pertinent facts, DRed?
Ohio voters still may vote early.
So.....does this mean that you concede that you lost the traditional marriage debate? And the religious organization debate?
DRed| 8.5.12 @ 8:53PM
Ross claims this suit is "trying to limit the number of days which members of Armed Forces have to participate in that state's early voting." It's totally false. Nothing about this suit will limit the number of days members of the Armed Forces have to participate in the state's early voting. That's the pertinent fact. You can't even argue with me on this one.
Nick| 8.5.12 @ 9:14PM
Well, I am arguing about it with you, DRed.
Shouldn't military voters have more time to vote than the rest of us? There is nothing unconstitutional about giving military voters more time to vote.
I can't access the links to the lawsuit, so I don't know if what you claim is accurate. The court could easily restrict military voters to the Friday before the election, with the rest of Ohioans.
And, again, since you keep deflecting, Ohio voters still may vote early!
There is no reason for the O'Bama regime to file this suit, other than the new law restricts their efforts to cast bogus ballots in Ohio.
DRed| 8.5.12 @ 9:31PM
http://moritzlaw.osu.edu/elect.....plaint.pdf
Now you can access the lawsuit and learn that what I'm claiming is accurate. I bet you won't admit it, though.
CJW| 8.6.12 @ 8:03AM
The bottom line is that Obama does not want the military to have three more days than others for early voting. The military get preferencesin hiring and other benefits. If the military was voting for Obama, then there would be no complaint.
There is still early voting for all, just military has three more days. So Obama is suing to prevent the military from having three extra days to vote early.
DRed| 8.6.12 @ 9:36AM
False. No matter what happens with this suit military members will have those days to vote.
Nick| 8.6.12 @ 10:27AM
Still can't admit you were wrong, DRed? How very sad.
Jacob Dolson Cox| 8.6.12 @ 8:27AM
Again, the reality is more complicated than you are admitting. See my comment above. Some Ohio counties—rural counties, mainly—ended early voting on the Friday before the election; other counties—urban counties, mainl—permitted early voting through the weekend. The legislature standardized the voting procedures by not forcing the rural counties to pay for something they could not afford.
The Obama campaign, in good left-liberal fashion, is seeking to overturn a decision by the people’s representatives in the state legislature. Two outcomes are possible: (1.) the court will require all early voting to end on Friday, restricting the voting rights of serving military; or (2.) the court will permit early voting to continue through the weekend, giving an advantage to urban counties (i.e. Obama strongholds).
Nick| 8.6.12 @ 10:25AM
Mr. Cox,
After reading more about the subject, I concur with everything you have written. Thank you, for summing-up this complicated issue so succinctly.
Nick| 8.5.12 @ 11:44PM
Yes, DRed, you have accurately quoted the complaint. See, conservatives have know problem admitting the truth. The truth is all we seek.
You, on the other hand, still haven't admitted that you were wrong when you wrote, "The lawsuit seeks to RESTORE EARLY VOTING in Ohio for ALL Ohio voters."
Ohioans NEVER lost their early voting, brainiac.
Liberals hardly ever admit their mistakes. It's called the sin of pride.
Besides, the plaintiff's complaint shows no harm inflicted on Ohioans because of the new law, at all. To paraphrase you, DRed, nothing about this new law will limit the number of days citizens of Ohio have to participate in the state's early voting.
I am so glad that you conceded on the marriage and religious org. debates, by the way.
You were loosing badly.
Nick| 8.5.12 @ 11:51PM
Oops! That should have been: To paraphrase you, DRed, nothing about this new law will keep citizens of Ohio from participating in the state's early voting.
Just showing how fast I can admit a mistake.
