Regarding the final paragraph of the piece, liberals are incapable of leaving anything or anyone alone. Liberalism isn't an intellectual ideology; it exists entirely within the realm of the moral. Once they stake a position, any opposition to it is immoral by definition, and must be obliterated.
Therefore, it isn't possible to oppose gay marriage in good faith; you are a hateful homophobe. You can't oppose gun control unless you want innocents to die. You can't harbor any heretical views in general without it being labeled intolerant "hate speech."
Moderates and RINOs will never understand that people like this cannot be reasoned with or placated. It's like trying to be rational with a 4-year-old throwing a tantrum when he doesn't get what he wants. If you stand firm, you're the mean bad guy. If you give in, peace is temporary, and the child/liberal now knows that you can be made to surrender if he howls loudly enough next time.
