Jesse Jackson the elder is one of my least favorite pols, EVER.
His son certainly isn’t of the most stellar character either, and
he’s a real left winger. But none of that matters. His current
problems,
whatever they are, sound serious — and they are of the type
that call for compassion and sympathy, not scorn. He is a human
being who appears to be suffering; I offer a prayer for his
recovery.
As it happens, I know of one particular incident, private in
nature so I won’t relay any specifics of it (it was told to me by a
first-hand witness; I didn’t see it myself), that speaks well of
some basic instincts toward personal decency within the heart of
the younger Jackson. Suffice it to say that he reached out,
supportively, when somebody across the aisle was down.
Conservatives should do likewise for Rep. Jackson. May he find
solace and health — so we can go back to opposing him politically
when he errs in that realm, which is often, but not opposing him
personally or meanly.
And when he comes back to the House, presumably as a healthy
man, conservatives should shake his hand and wish him well.

Even though this is definately Christ-like in a call to charity, I am a human being with many faults/deficiencies and simly cannot do as is being requested here. His father along with Al Sharpton were rebel-rousing black Florida residents over the Travon Martin shooting indicent needlessly [the suspect/defendent is now out on bond and at an undisclosed location due to death threats against him due to this unnecessary racial activity by Jackson Sr]. Additionally, a recent local shooting of a non-black resident by a black teenage thug did not bring Jackson Sr here to correspondingly protest same. It has been insinuated that Jackson Jr has been involved in the corruption activities of a now incarcerated Illinois former governor and that this is the reason why he/Jackson Jr is incognito today. Why should I or anyone else have sympathy for either Jackson Sr or Jr, since both are corrupt individuals and undeserving of any kindness from the public?????????

I post about Jackson Jr., yet you criticize his father. It is not OUR job to visit the sins of the father upon the son.

'.....Exodus 34:7
Keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children's children, to the third and the fourth generation.”
Deuteronomy 24:16
“Fathers shall not be put to death because of their children, nor shall children be put to death because of their fathers. Each one shall be put to death for his own sin.
Numbers 14:18
‘The Lord is slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, forgiving iniquity and transgression, but he will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, to the third and the fourth generation.’
Deuteronomy 5:9
You shall not bow down to them or serve them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me
Exodus 20:5
You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me.....'

'.... We know it might be painful or embarrassing — but honestly, Congressman, usually it’s best just to let it all hang out.If Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. had explained a month ago — when the Chicago Democrat first went AWOL from Washington — that he was getting mental-health treatment, there might be fewer questions about his condition today. Instead, his office’s terse explanation late Wednesday that he was suffering a “mood disorder” felt like too little too late — and too much like the clouds of mystery that have foretold the demise of other politician’s careers. It’s one thing for a Hollywood celebrity to claim “exhaustion” and go off the grid — it’s their dime, after all. It’s another for a public official to check out without explaining things to his or her constituents. And even Jackson’s latest attempt to clarify his situation was shrouded by his staff’s invocation of federal health privacy laws.
But do secrecy and vagueness ever work for pols grappling with personal messes?
.......Jackson’s damage-control instincts have been a little sharper in the past. When the married congressman was caught cavorting with a cigar-lounge hostess in 2010, he issued the standard penitential non-denial — “a private and personal matter between me and my wife that was handled some time ago.” Okay, maybe not all the gory details, but you got the picture. And then the story went away.....'

Pray he finds his way. One obvious cause for his mood disorder is that he has dwelled too much on what progressivism means for America and he just cannot reconcile them with reality. He could have asked himself where did he go so wrong, and unable to answer himself he went into a mood disorder. Hopefully he finds his way and realizes that the success of blacks such as Herman Cain and Allen West represent the true triumph of the Civil Rights Movement and the fulfillment of Dr King's dream that men be judged for the content of their character, not the color of their skin.
One thing's for sure, you won't find well-wishing across the aisle if a conservative was not well, you would only find vitriol and death wishes.
Cobalt| 7.12.12 @ 2:30PM
What exactly does it mean to be treated for a "mood disorder" in Arizona? Is he staying at a non-alcoholic facility? After he is released, will Triple J be required to wear a mood ring for the rest of his life?
Crassus| 7.12.12 @ 2:38PM
Okay, Quinn, I'll follow your advice and pray for Junior. Which way should I pray?
kingsmill| 7.12.12 @ 3:39PM
I didn't pray for Patches Kennedy (under similar circumstances) and I won't be praying for JJ Jr. now.
Somehow I just can't bring myself to pray for ruthless ideologues who wouldn't think twice about kicking me in the teeth.

Indeed, Judaism teaches that we must not ask for the sinners to be lost from the land, but rather that the sins be lost from the land. We learn this lesson from the Talmudic story of Bruria. The wife of great sage Rebbe Meir, Bruria was well known as a Torah Scholar a woman possessing vast Torah knowledge. The story goes that a man shares with her that there is someone in his community who is harassing him, and he is praying for G-d to destroy him.
"You fool!" she admonishes him. "The verse in Psalms states, "May the sins be cast off from the land" — not the sinners. In other words, we pray that sinners repent, not die.
