The Spectacle Blog

Four years ago, Matt Drudge reported that Barack Obama was likely to select Evan Bayh as his running mate.

Eight years ago, Drudge reported that John Kerry was likely to select Hillary Clinton as his running mate.

Twelve years ago, Drudge reported that George W. Bush’s likely pick was Frank Keating.

Tonight, Drudge says that Condoleezza Rice is the “frontrunner” in Mitt Romney’s veepstakes.

I would suggest that readers treat this scoop with the confidence that Drudge has earned through his track record. (Lest there be any doubt, Erick Erickson tweets: “Multiple assurances from Team Romney tonight that Condi is not happening for Veep.”)

Condi as vp would assure four more years of obama

Condi? Do we really want voters to remember the Iraq and Afghanistan wars? She adds zero to the ticket.

Rubio is the obvious choice.

Thanks, John for the reassuring information.

Selecting someone to be next in line for the Presidency (1) who has never held elective office or (2) whose position on domestic issues are largely unknown would be a major item of concern for me. My guess is that the selection will either come from the State Governor Ranks (McDonnell, Pawlenty or Walker) or someone with prominent Federal budget experience (Portman or Ryan). Romney knows more about the candidates than the rest of us, but if I had to bet, I would pick Portman.

Drudge is a good link to other sites...but Drudge headlines rarely match the stories very well, so i just ignore them

I was starting to warm up to Mitt, when his nomination became inevitable. Condi Rice ? OMG a maybe PRO-CHOICE? A Sick sinking feeling took over. Thank God...John for your blog!

Condi Rice has never even run for dogcatcher and was a poor National Security Adviser and even worse Secretary of State. There is absolutely zero chance that she will be offered the post, and about the same odds that she would accept.

The Drudge headline must be a ploy to drive traffic to his site. Evidently, it works.

Exacto. Drudge is experiencing a Perez Hilton sissy-fit. The future second Mrs. George W. Bush hasn't a chance.

Reggie Love| 7.13.12 @ 9:31AM

They floated Condi so that when he picks pawlenty or Portman people won't get mad.

During the Republican primaries, Drudge showed that he was a biased source, so he cannot be taken seriously anymore.

Crassus| 7.13.12 @ 10:32AM

Condi would be a horror show as veep. She's better off as a kindergarten teacher.

Oldefarte| 7.13.12 @ 4:12PM

I would agree that she's not the VP choice. First, she's not interested in a political career and is probably happy at Stanford teaching. Two, it's been speculated that Romney wants a business-oriented professional politician that can assist him with economic/financial governmental concerns, ie the defecit/debt. I think either Portman or Jimdal!!!!!!!!!
