I make no claim to have any idea who is right and who is wrong in this dispute, but it bears watching: Will an American company, or a Brazilian, supply aircraft to be used in Afghanistan? Former Air Force General Jeff Remington, a consultant for the American company, weighs in at the link above.
The question should NOT be where the plane is built, but which bid would provide the best aircraft at the best cost for the job at hand. But IF all other things are equal, in my book, THEN the American company should get the edge. But I think that should be a decidedly secondary consideration, because what’s important is that the military job be best aided, regardless. Still, this is a provocative column, well worth a look.

There you go again Quin. Free trade, free enterprise is the best philosophy but it is a philosophy - there are some exception, such as national defense. We want to rely on ourselves, not others. It's penny-wise but pound foolish to offshore defense contracts, plus designing and building weapons systems domestically helps our economy and job creation. You don't see that?
