Given that Quin is
surprised by the magnitude of the Obama Administration’s
victory at the Supreme Court with regard to the Arizona immigration
law (notwithstanding upholding the right of law enforcement in
Arizona to check on the immigration status of those individuals
they have a reasonable suspicion are not in the country
legally), will the Supremes have more unpleasant surprises in store
when they rule on Obamacare on Thursday?
My guess is that they’ll split the baby again. The Supremes will
rule the individual mandate unconstitutional but keep the rest of
the Affordable Health Care Act intact.

I'm pretty much sure that you can Count on it.
The destruction of this Great Country began with the Immigration Act of 1965.
In two days, the last Nail in the Coffin will be hammered home.
I put my Flag up, UPSIDE DOWN, today, where it will remain that way, for the rest of my life.
God help us all.

You are TAS's biggest drama queen, TLP. Life will go on just fine in the US tomorrow as it did the day before and will 25 years from now. You fly your flag in any damn position you like, because despite your histrionics, it's still a free country -- indeed, a lot freer than at any time in its history.
TLP| 6.26.12 @ 8:33AM
Really?
It's still a free country?
When the President of the United States proclaims that HE will decide which Laws, ON THE BOOKS, he will and won't Enforce, we do not live in a Free Country.
But, you won't care, until it affects You, and Yours.
"They came for the Jews, and I said nothing........"
You're even more Fcking Stupid than I thought.
RCV| 6.26.12 @ 1:34PM
It's a great quote, TLP, but it has absolutely no relevance to the issues at hand. "They" are not coming for the Jews, or anyone else. Indeed, it's you and your pals in Arizona who were "coming for" anyone who looked mildly Hispanic -- I mean "suspected illegal". So calm down, and go put your upside down flag outside, you drama queen.

TLP: Let's have a bit of hope: Scalia wants the whole thing torn down.
TLP| 6.25.12 @ 7:03PM
Please.
Scalia wanted Arizona's law passed, as well.
And, we all know how that turned out.

Two Items that could be last line of defense against this silly stuff coming from the Federal Government...Strong State Militia/National Guard & some sort of alternative monetary system not controlled by the Federal government.
As long as the Feds control the guns and the money, they will reign supreme...good, bad or ugly.

As I noted above, Chief Justice Roberts voted to overturn the law. He will also vote to keep Obama Care.
Casey Abell| 6.25.12 @ 3:03PM
Come on, Aaron. You know Hillyer as well as I do. Excitable Quin always goes overboard and regards anything but complete, absolute victory for the right as horrible, godawful defeat.
In fact, the key provision of the Arizona law, Section 2b allowing immigration status checks on detained people, was upheld 8-0. You'd think even Hillyer might be happy with that. But we all know Quin.
I tend to agree that on Obamacare the Supremes will toss the individual mandate, and maybe some other provisions. But the court won't strike down the entire law because, like everybody else, they haven't read the whole freakin' thing. And, once again, Quin will whine about what a defeat this is.
CJW| 6.25.12 @ 3:27PM
The law cannot stand without the individual mandate. The Court threw a bone to Obama on immigration because they will rule against him on health care.
RCV| 6.25.12 @ 6:59PM
The Court has no reason to "throw a bone" to anyone. That's the beauty -- and express purpose -- of lifetime tenure.
JohnD| 6.25.12 @ 3:53PM
In the transcript of the Oral Arguments, the Solicitor General was asked 7 times, "if we allow Congress to force people to buy health insurance what would be the limit on Congress' power?" All 7 times the Solicitor General refused to answer. Based on this the Court will overturn Obamacare, because even the Plaintiffs know this will mean there is no limit to Congress' power.

those exchanges were, indeed, telling...the only honest answer the SG could have given would have been this:
"my name is Legion, for we are many"
tonypal| 6.25.12 @ 4:01PM
I believe that no matter the outcome Thursday, we win. Obviously it's a glorious day if the entire law is struck down. Most importantly, the mandate needs to go as we cannot afford the precedent.
If it's up held in any form - in part or in its entirety - we have a huge campaign issue. The American people are very much against Obamacare. In fact, the more they hear about it the more they dislike it.
I know Romney had his plan in Mass., blah, blah, blah. He and his team have had plenty of time to figure out a strategy. Given the impressive nature of his campaign so far, I'm confident he'll be able to use it to his advantage.
Bottom line is this. I'm praying the whole thing gets shut down. But from a purely political perspective, tossing out the mandate but keeping the rest of the law in place might be a win for us in disguise.
RCV| 6.25.12 @ 7:12PM
My take is just the opposite: If the Court strikes down the whole law, the outcry over the loss of the "preexisting condition" and student retention provisions will create a new pool of supporters for Obama. Striking down the individual mandate only would be an economic disaster for insurers who would lose their pool of healthy young insurees but still have to cover preexisting conditions. The chaos will be blamed on the Court.
spike59| 6.27.12 @ 5:55AM
ObaMao's 'pool of supporters' seem to be leaving the pool and toweling off
redwolf6911| 6.25.12 @ 7:45PM
If just the Mandate is tossed, Obama and Company are planning to ram the rest of the law down our throats. They have already said so. The rest of the law is the absolute nightmare.
RCV| 6.26.12 @ 1:36PM
The law was passed by Congress, so yes it will continue to be in effect if the Court doesn't invalidate it, or Congress chooses not to repeal it. That's the way it works.

apparently, you've never heard of this little document called 'The Constitution', Queenofthenuts; but on Thursday a majority of the SCOTUS will be offering a refresher course. you might want to put down your copy of 'Rules for Radicals' and take a listen
