Leninists were famous for punishing minor deviations from the
party line. America’s feminists are worthy heirs of that tradition.
Laura Bush is their
latest victim. A co-founder of NOW, Sonia Fuentes, is trying to
box Bush out of the “Alice” award, an award named
after a feminist pioneer granted
by the Sewall-Belmont House. What is Laura
Bush’s thought crime? Fuentes says Bush hasn’t done much
for “women,” by which she apparently means Laura Bush hasn’t
campaigned loudly enough for abortion rights. The irony here
is that Laura Bush did pay homage to the gods of political
correctness as first lady, signaling to the press that she
supported abortion and gay rights, positions that she made
explicit once her husband was out of office. Laura Bush
endorsed gay marriage before Obama did and she told Larry King that
she supported a right to abortion and that she had tried to
stop her husband from campaigning against gay marriage in 2004. One
would think feminists like Fuentes might reward Fifth Columnists
within the Republican Party. Nope, like the Komen Foundation, Laura
Bush isn’t pro-abortion enough for Leninist feminists and she
committed the unpardonable sin of marrying a Republican. Fuentes
doesn’t care “who a person marries,” as long as it isn’t
George W. Bush.

Thanks for reminding me of Mrs Bushs liberal slant as I had once thought she was a first class lady.

Mrs. Bush is a bad person. So what else is new? So's her husband and in-laws.

Amen Derek: Laura Bush like her mother-in-law is the true face of the Bush family. They are all for abortion and other evils like Unplanned Parenthood. Until we rid the Republican Party of the Bushes and their ilk, there will never be progress in this country.

Mrs. Bush represents a significant sector of the GOP that tries to keep their true positions under the radar. They are in essiential agreement with rank and file Dems when it comes to abortion, gay rights, and large intrusive government. Laura Bush's husband said it best when he quipped, "When people are hurting the government has got to move!"
President Bush and his family consider themselves part of the Partrician Class. They are Statists, and they essientially believe that most people need "help" from a large public bureaucracy in order to survive. Whether they are farmers, students, or small businesses, this wing of the GOP is all for long reach of the federal government. It matters not if they are Methodists (such as the former First Couple) or Roman Catholic (such as Jeb); in the end, they are all Statists.

What a bunch of Leninists on the AmSpec site!
Laura differs with the absolutists and BOOM, she's Saul Alinsky and Gloria Steinem all in one.
No wonder Obama will probably win, with all the "principled conservatives" around to join the Great Republican Circular Firing Squad.

I agree with Skippy. Being an absolutist and setting up Laura Bush as a straw woman is silly and a waste of time. When she decides to run for office, then we'll talk. In the meantime, let's all have a big laugh at another example of how pathetic and useless NOW is and always will be.
