Wikileaks founder Julian Assange is seeking asylum in Ecuador as a political refugee. Assange is currently housed in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London.

A British court recently rejected Assange’s motion to block his extradition to Sweden to face sexual assault charges. Assange interviewed Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa last month.

It seems fitting that Assange would seek refuge in a communist country. I guess Hugo Chavez is too sick to be of much help to Assange.

Assange's fifteen minutes ran out...gee, I'm not sure exactly when. But it was a long time ago. I didn't even know where he was living nowadays.

Oh well, once upon a time, he was a news item.

The State Department can't kill Assange like they'd like to do so of course they'd coerce an EU nation like Sweden to trump up a charge such as "sexual assault" against Assange so he can't do any more damage against them.

What communist country?

JmsA| 6.19.12 @ 10:02PM

Ecuador is an ALBA (Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America) member country along with Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Bolivia, Cuba, Barbados, etc. Rafael Correa, Ecuador's president is a close ally of Castro and Hugo Chavez, and virulently anti-U.S. He has also muzzled the free press, as well as committed acts of repression in consolidating his power. He's been referred to as the next Chavez.

Just because he hates the US doesn't make him a Commie.

He has a Masters and PhD in Economics from the University of Illinois. It looks to me like he is one of those new breed South American, anti-USA, liberal, left wing, populist politicians.

We have some of them right here in California in the La Raza movement. And no Republican politician will admit it so far, let alone a Democrat!

We don't have enough troubles in the near east, right Aaron? Now were looking for more Commies under the bed in our own hemisphere aren't we?

Bob K, what's wrong with you? Are you playing with words? Don't you know a commie when you see one? Because a bunch of commies attended a western university (just as did Pol pot, Ho Chi Minh, Angela Davis, Kevin Ayers and so on) it doesn't make them less communist in my opinion and in the actual world. You should visit my country and see the subtle differences between liberal and commies (we have plenty of both), it will help you spot the Beast and name it accurately.

Bob K| 6.20.12 @ 10:29AM

No I'm not playing with words.

Read a little South American history. Just because they hate Norte Americanos doesn't mean they all are commies. Populist socialists yes: Like Correa is. He is in the tradition of the late Jorge Gaitan Ayala of Columbia. He doesn't have 10 generations of European blood in his veins like most South American leaders do.

Even Chavez comes out of the old tradition of Military Caudillos; charismatic, populist, military men who have always been looking for revolutions and who get much democratic support from the native indigenous populations of these countries.

The Castros and Gueverra were Commies but just because they were doesn't make every anti USA South American one.

Bob K| 6.20.12 @ 10:32AM

And the Castros were 2nd generation Spanish from Galicia. Their father emigrated from Spain to Cuba.
