According to a report by American National Election Studies, the electorate has become more averse to Mormons since 2007. The biggest jump in anti-Mormon sentiment has occurred among liberals rather than evangelicals. BuzzFeed reports:

According to the paper, concern about Mormonism has remained relatively stable among Evangelicals, with 36 percent expressing aversion to an LDS candidate in 2007 and 33 percent doing so in 2012. But among non-religious voters, that number shot up 20 points in the past five years, from 21 percent in 2007 to 41 percent in February. There were also substantial increases in Mormon-averse voters among liberals — 28 percent in 2007 and 43 percent in 2012 — as well as moderates, who went from 22 percent in 2007 to 32 percent this year.

Two big factors? Mitt Romney and same-sex marriage. Nationally, the percentage of Americans who say they would be less likely to vote for a Mormon has risen nine points from 26 percent in 2007 to 35 percent today.

Its ironic that while Americans elected to the Presidency a man whose father and step-father were Muslims, that there is less tolerance for Mormons. Further evidence that liberalism is not about greater tolerance or ending discrimination. It really is about who is discriminated against.

BINGO!

of course, the fact that Mormons don't tend to blow up buildings and slaughter children whenever their panties get in a twist may have something to do with the 'comfort level' among the Left in bashing them

Amen....truth! And neither do Baptist, Catholics, Methodists, Lutherans, Episcapalians, Jews, etc................wait, it just the '''''''MUSLIMS'''''who do that.....SHAZAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The people who are now saying they are less likely to vote Mittens are people that most likely would not have anyway. It's not surprising the moonbats won't vote for a Mormon. Unless, of course, they are like Dingy Harry Reid and repudiate anything that doesn't fit what is politically best for them.

Frankly, the real reason they won't vote for him is he has an "R" behind his name. Both Bushes were their kind of people, but they had an "R" behind their names and they were hated by the moonbats as a result.

Yes, in the case of Democrats, that''''R''''' stands for MENTALLY CHALLANGED!!!!!!!

I don't agree with the Morman faith, but I look at other things. Family stability, no divorce, one man one woman in marriage, and pro-life, and freedom of religion for others and follow the Constitution. That pretty much covers Mitt. Obama is amoral, does not believe in freedom of religion and trying to force people of faith to go against their conscience in the Obamacare mandate. Fact is that the quicker Obama is out of office, the better this country will be.

A friend of mine is fire breathing, foaming at the mouth liberal. While amiably discussing this year’s election together, I was astonished last week when he told me he would never, ever vote for a Mormon. He described Mormonism as a “secret cult” and said Romney was “scary”.
Not that he would have voted for Romney in any event. But it was his intolerance and self-confessed first choice for rejecting Romney that spoke volumes about his brand of liberalism.

The fact that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the 4th largest church in the United States is very alarming to the liberal left. They are facing an increasingly popular religion that supports family values, honesty, and self sufficiency vs. reliance on the government. This scares the liberals because it is contrary to their belief that government is the only solution to the countries problems. Check out mormon.org for more information on this great church.

Oldefarte| 6.14.12 @ 2:53PM

Yep, and since GOVERNMENT is the religion of all LIBERALS, they hate any/all competing [sane, that is] religions!!!!!

Liberals repelled by other people's beliefs should consider their own, more dangerous, ones.

Mitt Romney needs to stand his ground. I am one of those who believes that the U.S. has found favor with Almighty God and with Mitt Romney in the White House, will find favor.....again. The same sex business is going to hurt Obama, even with former loyal supporters. If I lived in Provo, I might feel like an outsider, but as a Southern Californian, with our remarkably diverse population, I have nothing but good feeling for those Mormons with whom I come in contact.

I think namseabee is onto something. Bill Maher was recently quoted saying that Americans are dubm, Mormons are dumb, therefore, Americans will ALL become Mormons. I think that is a real fear among liberals, that they are dying out because they don't believe in marriage and children, and conservative religious people are outpopulating them, with Mormons in the vanguard with the largest families in the country. Professor Randy Stark (not a Mormon) wrote over 20 years ago that the steady growth rate of the Mormons is the best modern model for how the early Christians came to become the largest religion in the Roman Empire, and his prediction for the next 20 years came true. By 2050, there could be 24 million Mormons in the US, close to the population of California, and by 2100 it could be 100 million. That scares a lot of people, both liberal atheists and Evangelical Christians (especially in light of the news that the Southern Baptists LOST a net 150,000 members last year!).

I would love to see a scenario in which Joe Biden retires, and Obama replaces him in the VEEP slot with Harry Reid. Liberals would have Mormons on BOTH sides of the ballot to vote against! Drive them crazy.

The general problem is that all [again, sane] religions have been declining in popularity over the last several decades, and secularism has taken the place of same. People no longer attend religious services as was done in prior times [some of us were not only raised in religious atmospheres, but educated within same as well]. Additionally, morality has increasingly given way to immorality among our culture [a casual glance at a daily TV Guide of PPV channels will give a good indication of same]; and Hollywood has been responsible for most of same. The movies and TV programming produced by them today is purposely and intentionally immoral, as it is filled with sexual and violent content meant to sway not only young minds but so-called adult ones as well. The few true PARENTS of today rarily demand their children's attendance at religious services nor practices of its teachings within their home environment; and conversely open their homes' front doors to the invasions of Hollywood's immorality carte blanche. They then shake their heads in amazement as to why their children commit violent acts of criminality etc [and proclaim the wonderment of where they went wrong in their childrens' upbringing]. We as a society are slowely creeping further and further into the toiletbowl of depravity and immorality, and same can be only traced to the above situation!!!!!!!!
