I agree entirely
with Aaron that Obama the Oval Office Occupier has insulted
Poland terribly in the past, and that Polish leaders should take
every oppotunity to make clear their disdain for his asininity.
That said, I really think this flap about “Polish death camps” is
too much ado about very little. It was abundantly clear that Obama
meant death camps in Poland. No insult intended — in
fact, just the opposite, as he honored one of Poland’s greatest
heroes (and a hero of mine as a GU student while he taught there),
Jan Karski. No matter who the offending politician, I will continue
to insist that this sort of out-of-context “gotcha” stuff is
beneath us, when we face an election as momentous as this one, in
times as scary as these.
It was silly, or worse, when people blasted Romney for his “I
don’t care about the poor” remark; silly, or worse, when people hit
Santorum on several things taken clearly out of context; and even
unfair when Newt Gingrich, whose campaign I opposed, was hit for
supposedly
being racist because of comments of his that obviously
were twisted all out of shape.
There is so, so much to criticize about Barry Alinsky
Hussein Obama the Choom King (just having fun, guys!), but we
shouldn’t cheapen those criticisms by attacking him for a harmless
slip of the lip.

It is not that big a deal but it is worth a little fun at the expense of the smartest President ever.

Mr Hillyer,
Sorry partner. You are off base in two aspects. First the Poles; Google "Katyn Forrest," to see why they are in such a high hover about this. Second; In his own words, President Obama knows more about any given subject, than any of his advisors. When someone continually displays that kind of attitude, people are gonna take full advantage of his gaffes, early...and often.
Regards,
Mike

The Poles should be more insulted that their leaders thought it was a good idea to go up against Armored Tanks with Horse Calvary.

That never happened. That was liberal propaganda (Nazi).
What happened was a Polish calvary unit came upon a German infantry unit and attacked it. This attack was successful, but before the calvary could move away, a follow up armoured unit drove up and machine-gunned some of the unit before it could withdraw. An Italian film crew came upon the site after the battle, and seeing the dead horses and a German armoured unit, wrote the story (with German complicity) about the "stupid Poles attacking an armoured unit with lances".
What is amazing is that people still believe this farce, even if told that the Polish calvary was considered the best in Europe at the time. Even if told that the Polish calvary were quite aware of combat vs. tanks, as against the Russians in the 1920 war.

Maybe, but the pattern tends to reveal he has very little knowledge of history. You may notice he never corrects himself, another tell-tale sign that he is, in fact, ignorant and doesn't recognize the mistake. Didn't he graduate MCL? Probably hard to retain much while smoking dope. He's the perfect example why affirmative action (racism) was never a good idea.
Occam's Tool| 5.30.12 @ 7:31PM
True---but it is actually possible that he screwed it up because he DID NOT KNOW. This is the guy who repeatedly discussed his "two sons," remember.
But I'm not voting for Romney over Obama because of that, nor against Romney because his tonsorial skills were problematic. I'm voting for Mitt because he is competent, and I'd like to be making money and not worrying about Washington for a change. Also, because Obama is a very, very, scarily incompetent fool. He has, at best, an IQ that I would estimate from hearing him speak of about 110. (This is rough---I'd have to evaluate the guy in person, obviously. But part of my job is evaluating intellectual capacity, and since I was a developmentally disabled specialist for the State of Alabama, and possess Mensa level intellect myself (joined at age 18) and have been doing my job for 20 years, I have a very good idea what's what.)
There are two basic types of symbols humans use to manipulate ideas about the Universe around them---mathematical and verbal. I doubt Obama took anything mathematical in college, and we see evidence of his verbal miscues every day. Again, about 110. What's worse, though, is that his life experiences were so limited prior to becoming President that it is amazing. Romney, for all his boringness, is a much more well rounded guy, and a winner in a very, very tough competitive field thatrequired the ability to absorb and utilize reams of mathematical and verbal data and make decisions fairly quickly.

You know what's REALLY scary, 90% of Americans who think the Death Camps were in Germany.
Albert Constantine Jr.| 5.30.12 @ 9:24PM
Dachau, Buchenwald and Bergen-Belsen were all within the original borders of Germany, and it is estimated that over 100,ooo prisoners died at these three. While this pales in comparison to the volume of prisoners killed at the extermination camps (designed primarily for that purpose and established by the Germans in Poland and elsewhere in eastern Europe), to reserve the term "death camp" for those sites only is a bit like asking how many angels can dance on the head of a pin.

Dumby,
My own Mother-in-law, who passed from this life into the next this past July 4th and has gone on to her glory in the Presence of the Creator, was taken prisoner at age 16, thrown into the back of a truck by Nazi soldiers from her home in Belarus, never to see her home again and taken to a slave labor camp in Germany called Volkswagon where she was starved and treated like a dog, along with her other young friends.
She was fed maggot soup but refused to eat it. She was forced to walk for miles in the snow in only a dress, to "work" each day.
So, it wasn't a "death" camp by gassing, but it was a death camp, nevertheless. By starvation and torture.
DEATH CAMP INDEED.
Kingofthenet| 5.31.12 @ 12:21PM
Sorry for your relative, that is horrible.Of course the Nazi pigs treated others bad everywhere.
One Mediator 1 Tim. 2:5. | 5.31.12 @ 1:11PM
Oh, KOTN, thanks for your condolence. My point though, was the fact that they were ALL death camps.. torture and starvation being the method.
Paul McGrath| 5.30.12 @ 10:06PM
I've been saying all along that Romney would make a good president. Too many people seem to believe he will be another Bush, or McCain. I don't think so.
Look at his CV on Wikipedia. Yes, Romney was born into wealth, but he has clearly challenged himself his entire adult life. His education is impeccable. He was successful in his private life, and he was governor of a large state.
But I keep going back to his spending two years as a Mormon missionary in France, of all places. This had to be a very humbling experience.
It would be nice to have a president with even the tiniest shred of humility, unlike the contemptuous, know-it-all Obama.
Occam's Tool| 5.30.12 @ 7:32PM

Come one Quin. Obama is the quintessential passive aggressive type. He'll do or say something generally interpreted as a slight, only to half-heartily "apologize" later on.
The ever-increasing list includes: the Special Olympic comment he made on Leno; the Nancy Reagan joke about Seances; the "gift" to the Queen which consisted of iPod downloads and other inappropriate gifts; the multiple insults to Netanyahu; the "I won" comment to John McCain during the White House health care debate summit; etc....and now this.
In his mind he wins: he gets his kicks while never really apologize or walking back.
It's very childish and narcissistic, and very consistent with someone who spent much of his life sliding through skids greased exclusively for him. Someone who apparently spent much of his early adulthood in a pot-filled van.
A frivolous man in perilous times.
Paul McGrath| 5.30.12 @ 9:57PM
I agree that this comment on its own probably doesn't merit such scrutiny, although really, when discussing such terrible events, one must always be very tactful. A president must be on guard at all times for such things.
But this comment, in combination with so many others he's made, makes one wonder. "Corpse-man." 57 states. Speaking Austrian. There are probably a half dozen others I can't remember.
As Occam pointed out, these don't represent a lack of fundamental intelligence, but they do seem to show huge gaps in his understanding of U. S. and world history. And his foreign policy truly reinforces this.
Churchill once said something like that in order to be a statesman, you have to read history and read history and read history. Obama has no knowledge of or interest in history.
Nancy in NC| 5.31.12 @ 9:18AM
I think you hit the nail on the head, Paul. Why would he be interested in history? He's not in it.

I have to say , I was taken by surprise at the at all the hooraw over thr remarks myself. I always understood the term Polish death camps to mean Nazi death camps in Poland. But apparantly this really is a big deal to the Poles. The shocker is that whoever wrote the speech didn't know or take the trouble to do enough historical research to find out. That Obama refuses to admit any real mistake was made is, of course, not surprising. Take a look under his bus in a few days to find out who the speechwriter was.

Those many Poles, Lithuanians, Ukrainians, French, Dutch, etc., who did collaborate with the Germans have always wanted to hide that fact.

I'm to the point where I do not agree that he should be allowed any discrepencies, unintended or otherwise. This was not a slip of the tongue, and the Polish authorities were correct to call him out on same. For someone who has insulted Israel's PM at an official WH visitation purposely along with his ignoring Israel in his pro-Arab foreign policy activities/attitudes, this pig aka POTUS is simply showing his Chicago community organizing bonofides to his animalistic constituents. Although it is written that TO ERR IS HUMAN, BUT TO FORGIVE IS DEVINE, just call me un-devine I guess!!!!!!!!!

Gotcha stuff, indeed.
