According to a Gallup poll released on Memorial Day, veterans support Mitt Romney over Barack Obama by 58 percent to 34 percent. Obama has a four-point lead among nonveterans and the two candidates are tied among all registered voters.

While veterans in all age groups back Romney, his support is strongest among veterans aged 70 to 79 (66 percent for Romney, 28 percent for Obama) and weakest among those aged 50 to 59 (though these veterans still break 54 percent to 39 percent for Romney). Romney only leads by five points among veterans who are women, but 24 percent of adult men have served in the military compared to only 2 percent of adult women.

Gallup’s Frank Newport writes, “It turns out that the male skew for Romney is driven almost entirely by veterans. Romney leads by one point among nonveteran men, contrasted with the 28-point edge Romney receives among male veterans.”

Some of this, just some (but surely always a talking point) is the pro gay efforts of Obama. Any military man knows that troops are young, inventive, creative, and full of mischief. Having gays in the ranks brings unending permutations of team disintegration in the ranks.

I suspect that, like most polls, these numbers are off. Real veterans may not necessarily like Romney. But those over age 40 come pretty close to despising Obama.

Exactly the right word

Teflon93| 5.28.12 @ 4:30PM

The margin would be much larger had Romney spent his time serving his country instead of traipsing over French wine country. It should be taken as a sign that Obama is just that terrible a C-in-C---not that Little Lord MittleRoy would be the second coming of Ike.

Lullabys, Legends and Lies| 5.28.12 @ 5:12PM

Romney's only leading by 24% among Veterans? That sucks!! Well then, I've got my work cut out for me here at FT Bragg!! In my own Company, Romney's leading by 99%, or at least that's what the Soldiers tell me when I ask them who they're supporting in 2012 (the 1% who's not? that's the one Soldier from the San Francisco area-It's the Pelosi effect I guess?)!! Sometimes I think they're only telling me they support Romney, just to make me leave them alone, and to stop talking about politics with them!! But I hope not, because that would mean they're lying to me, and you shouldn't lie to an NCO, even if you're only lying to make him shut up!! But this shouldn't come as a shock to anybody though, the Democratic Party hates the Military, therefore the Military tends not to support them back, and this particular President, he hides it well "sometimes", but you just know he hates the Military too (like the rest of the Democrats do). I can't wait for November to come, I really can't!!

LiveFreeOrDie| 5.29.12 @ 9:45AM

I think the numbers are better than this poll. Guys I talk to tell me the vote against Obama is down to the last man in their units, 100%.

Occam's Tool| 5.28.12 @ 7:38PM

Well, Mitt will support the military, and Obama is a nightmare of evil and stupidity---kind of like having Jack in Wi. as C-in-C. Nightmare.

Jack| 5.28.12 @ 11:45PM

The Active military gave Ron Paul 350,000 dollars and Willard Romney 14,000 dollars. If Romney runs as a warmonger like McCain he will lose in a landslide.

Jack in Wi.| 5.28.12 @ 11:47PM

Lets hope Romney wises up and pushes peace peace and prosperity not war and depression. I have always said Romney could be elected but what will he accomplish? Nothing good for conservative lovers of liberty.

The Bruce| 5.29.12 @ 1:34AM

I'd be willing to bet that the $350,ooo of active-duty donations came from liberals that simply signed up for the "free" education and benefits.

I know a few of them. While they're busily earning multiple degrees (at taxpayer expense), they're faking illness/injury/etc to avoid deployment, while pointing their fingers at those that "can" deploy.

It's quite pathetic, actually. The folks "filling the squares" for promotion are the ones that have never served a day of their lives in a combat zone.

Crassus| 5.29.12 @ 9:57AM

Wowsie wowsie woo woo. Complete lies.

Clint| 5.28.12 @ 10:12PM

Dueling Chickenhawks.

" Poll: Vets Back Obama Over Romney

Only 32 percent think the war in Iraq ended successfully, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll. And far more of them would pull out of Afghanistan than continue military operations there.
If the election were held today, Obama would win the veteran vote by as much as seven points over Romney, higher than his margin in the general population."

Bob Grant| 5.28.12 @ 10:36PM

That poll is weighted at minimum 10 percentage points in favor of the democrats.

Truth twist much?

Jack in Wi.| 5.28.12 @ 11:51PM

Clint is right. McCain could not come close to winning with a warmonger foreign policy. Chickenhawk Romney will sink like a stone if he try the same thing. Nobody who is sane wants anymore wars or liars who push wars.

Crassus| 5.29.12 @ 9:58AM

CHICKENHAWK!!! CHICKENHAWK!!!!

WL| 5.29.12 @ 12:31AM

So Clint...who you voting for? the Democrat...or the guy running against the democrat?????

Who do you want to win? The DEMOCRAT, or the guy running against the DEMOCRAT?

I know...you won't answer...you will just bloviate and avoid answering the question...until your next post attacking the Republican...and NOT attacking the Democrat...unless it is in an evenly skewed comparison carefully muddying the waters of the criticism to deliberately avoid any damage to the Democrat that is not inflicted on the Republican as well....NBC and their ilk have been playing this game for years...and we know it well...

DEMOCRAT

Cut&Paste; Widdle Cwint has been playing the role of Chief Rontard, but he's always known, just like The Tinfoil Hat Tinhorn has known, that Romney vs ObaMao is the contestt in Nov...i GUARANTEE he'll be pulling the lever for ObaMao, as he's planned all along

Crassus| 5.29.12 @ 9:59AM

So says the guy whose ASVAB scores were too low to get him into the military. By his own admission on this board.

Occam's Tool| 5.29.12 @ 1:19AM

Folks, I have sad news for Jack and Clint. Their best buddy died:

"Klaas Carel Faber, who served in an SS unit, was sentenced to death in 1947 for the deaths of 22 Jews at the Westerbork transit camp, the BBC said. Westerbork was the transit point to concentration camps for thousands of Dutch Jews, including Anne Frank..."

Yeah, I know your supposed dad rescued concentration camp survivors, Clint. But you would have put those people into camps, and still want to...

spike59| 5.29.12 @ 6:30AM

don't be so harsh on Cwintie...it's not easy to read the news that your Grampa Klaas has gon down to his reward

Occam's Tool| 5.29.12 @ 1:21AM

WL: Clint and Jack are both going to support Obama---Jack especially by voting 3rd party in a swing state. You can't fix stupid (and illiterate).
