The Spectacle Blog

Our friend Aaron Klein over at World Net Daily has made a remarkable — if unsurprising — discovery.

As Klein writes here, in 1996 there was a town meeting in Chicago presented by “The Democratic Socialists of America.” And on the speaking list?

That’s right. As listed on the pamphlet Klein has obtained with photo included:

Barack Obama. Candidate. State Senate. 13th Legislative District.

Again, you wonder why Sean Hannity is vetting the President? And our friends at Breitbart.com? Precisely because finding things like this pamphlet were not done in 2008.

But they are finally surfacing and being discussed. They are decidedly relevant — and yes, Governor Romney is beginning to incorporate this point as the fall campaign gets under way. See Romney here on Fox and Friends taking on Obama over capitalism.

Kudos to Mr. Klein and WND.

Follow the first link above to Klein’s story and take a good read.

This is totally off topic, but it shouldn't be. Since this is blog about Brett Kimberlin (the convicted terrorist) day, and Robert Stacy McCain, one of Spectator's own, is currently in hiding with his family due to threats from Kimberlin, why is there no mention of it here today? Shame on Spectator for not sticking up for its own.

IMHO, not only did he speak at a ''''''SOCIALIST CONFERENCE''''', but he more importantly..... IS WHAT HE SPOKE AT!!!!!!!!!

aware| 5.25.12 @ 7:12PM

This is "news"? Or even surprising? The bum's not even a socialist, he's a fascist. GM being a perfect example of how it works. "Private" ownership with the State being the largest shareholder and ultimate backstopper.

It's going on all over the place, and has been for a while. You only seem to notice it when Republicans aren't "in charge", but it was the way it was when they were, too. How quickly we forget "I had to abandon freemarket principles to save the freemarket" as we quasi-nationalized the debt of whole industries and even individuals. Surely the horror of Obama hasn't erased all memory of what came before him. He's just a steeper part of the greased chute we've been on for a while now.

Kinda makes me wonder whether it's the deeds being done or if it's just who's doing them you object to.

Obama is just as bad now as he was in '08. Anyone who is surprised by what he has done should never be allowed to claim being informed again and because of sheer stupidity, ought never to even offer an opinion. But he won.

And this time he has all the advantages conferred by the power of the State, as with all incumbent members of the professional criminal class.

Calling Obama a socialist, or even proving he is, that's the Great Right Hope? You gotta be kiddin'.
See what pathetic lengths you have to go to attempting to carry a wheezing glue factory nag over the finish line with no help from the nag?

'......Breitbart.com....TheVetting:ObamaDecried 'Spread of Militarism,' Lauded Anti Selective Service Group at Columbia by Charles C. Johnson 2 days ago ...In late 2008—long after the election—the media revealed a long-forgotten article written by Barack Obama while at Columbia. Obama wrote the March 1983 article, “Breaking the War Mentality,” about two campus groups, Arms Race Alternatives (ARA) and Student Against Militarism (SAM). Ben Smith of Politico (now at Buzzfeed) told readers that Obama’s views reflected the “very conventional campus liberalism of the time.”Wrong. Smith and the media failed to investigate what the activists at SAM were actually doing: encouraging students to break the law by not registering for the Selective Service and harassing military recruiters.Obama wrote that SAM “was formed in response to the passage of the registration laws in 1980.” Obama noted that the activists had “fostered awareness and practical action necessary to counter the growing threat of war.” That “awareness” and “practical action” went beyond mere protest, or encouraging students to break the law. SAM also wanted to break the military itself by sapping it of support—as Obama must have known from contemporaneous articles in the Columbia Spectator and from campus politics. On March 11, 1982, the Spectator’s John Jay Tilsen wrote: About twenty demonstrated from the Students Against Militarism stage a protest outside the building to condemn what, they said, is a national shift of job opportunities from human services industries to military industries. The students walked in the snow, carrying placards that said, ‘Marine Corps Not Welcome Here We Want Peace Jobs,” as they distributed leaflets calling for a new type of recruitment program that would list only organizations and companies that had no connections with the military. As few jobs become available in the private sector, job-seekers ‘see few alternatives to the military, which is always hiring,’ Rob Kahn of SAM said, ‘All of this adds up to increased militarization of the campus.’
On April 2, 1982, SAM protested against both the Air Force and the Fairchild Republican Corporation, a military contractor. The Spectator quoted an organizer who argued that the “technical training Columbia offers ‘should be used for a peaceful society rather than a militarized society.’” Protesters handed out leaflets claiming: “The duties of a weapons employee are in conflict with any sense of ethics; there is a direct link between military employment and violent human death.” (Paul Getzels, “Student Protest Recruiting on Campus for Defense Jobs,” Columbia Spectator, April 2, 1982).In April 1982, Columbia considered allowing the U.S. Navy’s Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) back on campus after a ten-year hiatus. “The university is ‘unofficially’ considering the [Navy’s] request, but no plans to bring the NROTC back to campus will be made before student opinion is measured, according to Philip Benson, deputy to the president for student affairs,” the Spectator reported (Douglas Hill, “CU considering NROTC offer,” Columbia Spectator, April 5, 1982). SAM challenged the proposal and helped rally student opinion against NROTC.John Foucek, CC ’81, the founder of SAM, hoped that the pressure exerted by groups like SAM and ARA might be enough to “set forth a political and economic program for the reversal of the arms race” (John Foucek, “Forced to Think About the ‘Unthinkable’ Again,” Columbia Spectator, May 19, 1982). Foucek later worked for the Institute for a World Order, which organized students throughout the country against nuclear weapons.SAM’s most serious form of political activism, however, was encouraging students not to register for the Selective Service. Refusing to register for the Selective Service could mean arrest, imprisonment, and—most importantly—denial of federal student aid. SAM counseled Columbia’s estimated 400 non-registrants and tried to form them into a political force on campus. The non-registrant’s “refusal to register seems to reflect more of an abstract repulsion to war and violence than any political opposition to the American political system,” wrote Julius Genachowski for the Spectator on November 29, 1982 (later Obama’s classmate at Harvard Law School, and his appointee to lead the Federal Communications Commission). “But they are nevertheless acutely aware that a peaceful world would require a restructuring of that system—and that such a change could only be furthered by the public declaration of their opposition to draft registration.”SAM hosted an event encouraging students to do just that. It even formed a support group for law-breakers. Matt Meyer, a public non-registrant, from the War Resisters League, spoke to about 30 students in a speech sponsored by SAM about the legitimacy of resisting draft registration, the important of being outspoken in that dissent, and the need for resisters to reinforce each other’s beliefs. (Julius Genachowski, “Draft Law Violators to Resist Together,” Columbia Spectator, December 2, 1982)Former Democratic Congressman Bella Abzug joined Sister Anne Montgomery and Father Paul Dinter at the rally, denouncing President Ronald Reagan and the “militaristic and adventuristic [sic] attitudes of the current administration.” When student athletes joined the counter-protest, the left-wing rally fizzled. However, SAM successfully promoted its ideas by distributing flyers calling for the following policy steps:
•Financial Aid for Non-Registrants [those who refused to register for the Selective Service]
•No to the Solomon Amendment! [which took away federal aid from those who refused to register]
•No Draft or Registration!
•No to Militarism in Our Schools and In Our Country! While Obama did register for the draft in Honolulu, Hawaii on September 4, 1980, far out of sight of his fellow student radicals at Occidental or Columbia, he backed SAM’s program.SAM, Obama wrote in Sundial, works “by educating and organizing the Columbia community” and “lay[ing] the foundation for future mobilization against the relentless, often silent spread of militarism in the country.” Indeed, Obama applauded SAM’s members for “adding their energy and effort to enhance the possibility of a decent world.” In so doing, “they may help deprive us of a spectacular event—that of war.” Yet by encouraging students to refuse to register for the Selective Service, SAM made it more likely that if America were ever attacked, there would be fewer men to defend her.
Today, as Barack Obama cuts military spending and advertises to the Russians that he will have more “flexibility” on American defense after the election, it appears that old lessons die hard......'

See the following, DA. There is a way to reduce governmental expenses, and it ain't the Democruds that are responsible for it, fool:
'....NewsmaxWisconsin Governor Walker Maintains Lead Over Challenger Saturday, May 26, 2012 08:07 AMWisconsin's Republican Governor Scott Walker leads his challenger Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett by five percentage points as the pair squared off for a debate on Friday before a special election to recall the governor on June 5.
Walker faces a special election after he angered Democrats and labor unions by pushing through the state legislature a law that reduces the power of public sector labor unions. Walker would become the third governor in United States history to be recalled if he loses.
During the one-hour debate in Milwaukee, Walker touted his efforts to balance the state's budget by curbing the power of public sector labor unions, while Barrett painted the first-term governor as untrustworthy. The two candidates are familiar foes, with Walker defeating Barrett by five points in the 2010 gubernatorial race. A recent poll conducted by St. Norbert College and Wisconsin Public Radio showed Barrett trailing Walker by a similar margin, 50 to 45 percent.Walker's changes to organized labor last year forced state and local government workers like teachers to pay a portion of the cost of health insurance and pensions, capped wage increases and required unions to be recertified every year. Walker said the reforms were needed to close a budget gap, while Democrats and unions said they were an effort at "union busting."
Walker said during the debate that the state now has a $154 million surplus and has experienced more than $1 billion in savings due to his reforms.
"We balanced [the] budget without raising taxes, without massive layoffs, and cuts in programs," Walker said. "The good news is that our reforms are working and that is why our opponents don't talk about them anymore."The two candidates will square off again for another debate Thursday.....

Get your mommie to read the following to you and then make some DA statement that there is no difference between the political parties:
'.....NewsmaxDemocratsShowNoWillingnesstoTackleSpending Madness Friday, January 6, 2012 09:21 AMBy: David Limbaugh...President Obama is calling for dramatic defense cuts that could threaten our national survival while obstructing structural reforms to our entitlement programs that are essential for our national financial survival. It just doesn't get much worse than this.President George W. Bush attempted in good faith to reform Social Security, and Democrats savaged him. Rep. Paul Ryan proposed a comprehensive financial plan that would, as painlessly as possible, restore national fiscal sanity, and Obama and his Democrats have misrepresented the plan (saying it would end Medicare) and used class warfare and fear-mongering to kill it in the cradle.Indeed, Republicans have repeatedly submitted and passed comprehensive and detailed budget plans to restore our financial solvency, and Senate Democrats have blocked every one of them. Meanwhile, the Democratic Senate hasn't produced a budget in almost three years. Three years! It is undeniable, undebatable, irrefutable, inarguable and certain that the United States is spending at a level that will destroy it. It is equally indisputable that Democrats have shown no willingness to join Americans in tackling the problem.Every time you confront a liberal with these incontrovertible facts, his response is not: "You are simply wrong." It is, "Bush started this." Well, Bush did spend too much, but he was a piker compared with Obama. But it doesn't much matter who caused it anymore, does it?If your family is facing a serious problem, is your first instinct to blame the culprit — other than to identify it for purposes of devising a solution — or to address the problem? If Democrats truly believe Bush spent too much, then shouldn't they cooperate to bring spending under control rather than use Bush's spending as an excuse to up the ante? While Bush spent too much, including on education and his prescription drug entitlement, Democrats thought he didn't spend nearly enough on education (Ted Kennedy constantly derided Bush over it), and part of the reason Bush advanced prescription drugs was to prevent Democrats from implementing a far costlier package. If Democrats had any concern about spending, they wouldn't have crammed through Obamacare, which will increase the federal health care budget obscenely. If they had the slightest concern about our upside-down national balance sheet, they wouldn't have spent $900 billion in a worthless, corrupt, ineffectual "stimulus" program and be clamoring for another one. They wouldn't waste federal money in dead-end green projects, such as Solyndra. They wouldn't have desperately tried to pass a monumentally wasteful cap-and-trade bill that wouldn't have made a dent in global temperature in a hundred years, even if you blindly accept all the superstitious nonsense the environmentalists propagate.Seriously, people, let Democrats and Obama defenders obfuscate all they want, but have you seen the charts? Have you noticed the dramatic acceleration in spending and deficits since Obama took office? Have you seen the side-by-side comparisons of America's financial future under the Ryan plan and Obama's current spending trajectory?Democrats cannot make Obama's financial path sustainable simply by blaming Bush for what happened before. We have to get about the business of cutting spending and reforming entitlements now because every year we wait, our problems are compounded and become that much more difficult to reverse.
We must come to terms with the fact that Democrats are trying not to control domestic spending — and growth-stifling tax hikes won't substantially reduce the deficit, much less the debt.Everything they are about depends on continually increasing spending, and you see it in their every budget. The only plans that even hint at spending cuts (actually reductions in spending increases using baseline budgeting) are the unspecified ones Obama outlines in his speeches.
His actual budgets show no appreciable cuts in the deficits as far as the eye can see.
Why aren't people, even Democrats, freaking out over this? I'll never understand this.
Obama is now proposing drastic cuts in our defense budget at a time when global terrorism is on the rise and other nations — from China to Russia to Iran to North Korea, most of whom mean us harm — are aggressively increasing their defense budgets. We are sharing nuclear secrets with Russia and sending technology to China that can be used for military purposes. Our war game projections show we might lose a conventional war against China over a disputed Taiwan Strait. We have killed our F-22 Raptor, while China and Russia are ramping up their next-generation fighters.Obama's motto seems to be this: If spending is called for by the Constitution, bleed it dry; if the Constitution forbids it, no holds barred. Gut nation-saving defense spending; increase nation-destroying domestic spending. When will the whole nation wake up to this madness?...............'
