My op-ed on Ravi/Clementi

I was very pleased to be contacted by USA Today on Thursday, asking me to write an opposing view on their take that the conviction and sentencing of Dharun Ravi was fair because society is becoming less tolerant of bias. (They had seen my American Spectator article which made roughly the opposite point to theirs.)

I wrote my view for them, and it has been published as the “Opposing View” in Friday’s USA Today:

It will be interesting to see if Emery University Professor Katharine Vigilante's class follows you onto the comments page of USA Today, (noted rightwing hate blog that it is).

This is totally off topic, but it shouldn't be. Since this is blog about Brett Kimberlin (the convicted terrorist) day, and Robert Stacy McCain, one of Spectator's own, is currently in hiding with his family due to threats from Kimberlin, why is there no mention of it here today? Shame on Spectator for not sticking up for its own.

In response to your recent questions, it is important to understand that the Left fights its battles on many fronts (though rarely mano a mano in a direct confrontation). In the Alinsky model, we will isolate and demonize you. We will boycott you. We will threaten you. We will sue you. We will riot over you. We will sic our Janets (Reno and/or Napolitano) and Holder on you. Failing that, we will bomb you, and thus, it is important that as little as possible about our “nuclear option” (Mr. Kimberlin) be revealed.

I hope this satisfies your inquiry. If not, please re-read paragraph 1 until it does.

Please include that Tyler Clementi may have jumped because he was now "outed." No, not "outed" as a gay -- that was already known and, seemingly, no big deal for a 18 year old college freshman. No, perhaps Clementi's problem was that the video (as if anyone would ever see it or know of its existence -- I mean, like, there are like 451,240,016 million amateur home videos out on the web just this year), this video might be seen by Clementi's other male partners. And Clementi was concerned that Biff, Cliff, Jiff, and Spiff might not like learning that he was two-timing them.

Also ask the question: How good was the lighting and sound quality in this video taken by Ravi? I bet if the general public could view it and hear it, it would be darkened shapes that no one would ever be able to identify and any sounds would be near unintelligible.

Point out that this is ALL LUNACY.

But you won't. You also want to treat this as if it is something with gravity and veritas.
