For all the controversy around Elizabeth Warren’s claims of
Native American status, it would appear that it has not hurt her
with Massachusetts voters.
According to a
new poll released by Suffolk University, Warren has closed the
gap between herself and Scott Brown. Warren trails Brown by only a
percentage point (48% to 47% of likely voters). Back in February,
Brown had a nine point lead over Warren.
The most significant part of the poll is that while 73% of those
surveyed were aware of the controversy with regard to Warren
claiming status as a Native American, 69% of those folks didn’t see
what the fuss was all about.
Of course, this is a by-product of living in a liberal state.
Most folks here in the Bay State not only favor affirmative action
but see nothing wrong with Warren’s claims even if they are
dubious. In which case, Scott Brown could be in a lot of trouble.
If voters in Connecticut didn’t care about Richard Blumenthal
misrepresenting his military service, is it really a stretch to
imagine that Massachusetts voters won’t care if Elizabeth Warren
lied about being Native American to advance her career?

This reminds me of the recent book by Charles Murray, in which he states a new elite class of white collar professionals have cropped up during the last 40 years - the so-called Cognitive Class. This new class, according to Murray, is known for its high IQ, advanced degrees. and high paying employment. They are CEOs, managers, professors, elite bankers and lawyers, as well as media and political elites.
Massachusetts is filled with this new class. But, one wonders if they are any different than the blue-collar/ lower middle class as far as politics are concerned. For all of their so-called sophistication, nuance, and professional credentials they seem to vote along entrenched party lines (ie Hard Left). They will vote for any hard core progressive in order to prevent an alleged conservative from holding office. This kind of reflexive leftism allows cranks such as Bluementhal and Warren to get in and hold office.
I suppose as long as the local economy (which more and more depends upon a leviathan sized federal government) is doing well the people of Massachusetts can continue to play this game.
It is one thing to vote for a party that reflects the social and political conditions of the voters; it is quite another to consistently tolerate the kind of absurd candidates that are now being churned out of New England at a steady pace (Biden, Warren, Blumenthal, Martha Coakley, etc...).

Joe Biden is a Northeasterner but not a New Englander. He was born in Pennsylvania before his family moved to Delaware when he was 11.
JP| 5.24.12 @ 1:19PM
Aaron, from a political point of view you make a distinction without a difference.
Aaron Goldstein| 5.24.12 @ 1:51PM
No, I am merely being more precise.
Clint| 5.24.12 @ 7:56PM
Biden's Delaware Is A Mid-Atlantic State.
And Northeastern States Aren't Necessarily New England States.

I can imagine all the white Irish cops and firemen in Southie who have been kept down by this racial preference system are thrilled to see a patrician white lady game the same system.

The election is so far away with more damage to Elizabeth Warren to come.
However, she has no credentials at all so you have to wonder what she has to offer except unbridled liberalism.
Ryan| 5.24.12 @ 11:00AM
With a Presidential race at the top of the ticket, it's probably Warren's race to lose here as long as she has no major mistakes that people care about. It may be otherwise were there no Presidential race, but with MA going to Obama in November, it's likely a double-flip of the switch for most Dem voters there...
R Martin| 5.25.12 @ 7:38AM
"...as long as she has no major mistakes that people care about."
Mistakes such as leading a life from which the lead character in "Animal Farm" was fashioned.
Hogo| 5.24.12 @ 11:55AM
"Of course, this is a by-product of living in a liberal state"
Or reality.
Your previous POTUS's grandfather was a supporter of the Nazis. He also fathered a 2nd POTUS. This mattered to zero people.
That would tend to settle the issue of whether the heritage of someone's ancestor x times removed into fractions with some lesser controversy attached, is clearly meaningless.
You really wanting it to be otherwise doesn't really change anything. Much like convincing your own base to not support the people and things they already didn't.
Trinacria| 5.24.12 @ 1:48PM
Brilliant post, Hogo (except for the part with words...).
spike59| 5.25.12 @ 6:29AM
as long as we're having a history lesson, how about the LAST democrat to hold that seat, the drunken philanderer/murderer, or his brother- who previously held the seat-who got us into Vietnam, came a whisker from blundering the entire planet into a nuclear holocaust, who diddled anything in a skirt, including white house secretaries and mafia mistresses, when he wasn't busy having threesomes with movie starlets and his brother, or forcing white house employees to perform oral sex on his buddies so he could watch, who wiretapped and harassed Dr King in his spare time, all sired by the infamous Bay State Bootlegger, who also had his own daughter lobotomized when it turned out she wasn't 'Kennedy material', and whose family business seems to be enriching distilleries and drug dealers, offing women, and committing serial rapes?
Cynicon Implant| 5.24.12 @ 11:57AM
She will win and it will assure that this messed up state (I live in MA) will continue down the path of idiotic liberal mayhem and probably bankruptcy.
No hope for us. Save yourselves.
Dan Abrams | 5.24.12 @ 12:09PM
The Blumenthal analogy is an interesting one, but hopefully inapposite because Blumenthal faced a Republican with arguably equal personal problems. (Rightly or wrongly, the WWE is not an ideal platform to run for the Senate). It is not so much that CT voters did not care about Blumenthal's lies, but that Blumenthal was seen as the more palatable alternative in a liberal state.
Scott Brown is a much stronger opponent.
Aaron Goldstein| 5.24.12 @ 12:59PM
So I guess you are saying Massachusetts voters have less to grapple with when they go to the polls.
Double D| 5.25.12 @ 9:48AM
Perhaps it will be a no-holds-barred contest.
kingsmill| 5.24.12 @ 12:31PM
It's going to come down to the perennial electoral question that Massachusetts non-moonbats ask themselves:"Is there a hidden vote that will come out on election day and reject Liarwatha?'
Usually the answer is an emphatic "NO!" However, Massachusetts non-moonbats are a fearful and cowardly bunch, they are afraid to attract the opprobrium of their moonbat masters. This election may be different. I have a feeling that BHO is not going to do as well (sure, he'll win) at the top of the ticket as expected. There will be many split tickets down ballot. Scott Brown is not a conservative and his RINO-ism does not motivate as much hate.
randyinrocklin| 5.24.12 @ 1:55PM
bubeye RINO Brown, I contributed and supported you last time around, not now.
Bob| 5.24.12 @ 3:46PM
I have some news for you GOPukes, Brown loses in Mass. (Ayla will be lady singing the blues), Mitt loses in Mass. and Allen fumbles in VA. Bain Bane Mitt's gone.
kat| 5.25.12 @ 5:01AM
This news just amazes me. I have listened to Howie Carr in the afternoons (we live in Maine) who broke the story and his listener found the plagerized recipes. Not only did she lie about her ancestors to get two plum teaching gigs, she copied word-for-word other people's work as her own.And this is acceptable to the MA electorate? I guess the home of the hard working capitalist Pilgrims is lost forever due to the Dems giving away the store (EBT cards in every pocket) to secure their vote, no matter how despicable the candidate.
spike59| 5.25.12 @ 6:19AM
after religiously enabling the Kennedy criminal empire for well over half a century, is it any surprise that MA voters would support a fecal nugget like Fauxcohontas?
Abby| 5.25.12 @ 1:53PM
No surprise there! Scott Brown, used the tea-party and then discarded them like used rags. Of course, there is no enthusiasm on side of the people who put him in power the last time. He had shown his true colors and most people are not interested.
sweeterjsan| 5.28.12 @ 2:47AM
