There is a sign from the Massachusetts Department of
Conservation and Recreation (DCR) which has been placed on the door
of the ice cream stand at Great Brook Farm State Park in Carlisle
about 20 miles northwest of Boston. It reads:
BUILDING CLOSED NO ICE CREAM UNTIL FURTHER
NOTICE
Last weekend,
DCR officers shut down the popular ice cream stand and stood
guard to ward off anyone crazy enough to think about buying an ice
cream cone on a warm day.
The ice cream stand was shut down because its owner Mark Duffy
because construction had been done without local and state permits.
Duffy, who operates a dairy farm and has operated the ice cream for
more than 25 years, says he has been making improvements everyday
without permission.
That isn’t good enough for MCR Commissioner Edward Lambert who
said, “I like ice cream as much as anybody, so it pains us to even
temporarily close what is an iconic property, but we have to make
sure people eating ice cream there are safe.”
Safe from what exactly, Lambert didn’t say.
This is a classic case of, “We’re from the government and we’re
to help.” Well, their help has forced Duffy to lay off 13 high
school and college students who work for him, has affected the ice
cream manufacturer in Attleboro which distributes their product to
him and if the shutdown lasts much longer it may force Duffy off
his farm. This weekend is due to be as warm as the one we had here
last weekend and Duffy is being deprived of his livelihood from an
unaccountable bureaucracy which applies its authority arbitrarily
and capriciously.

Thank goodness the Government is there to be the morons they are!

The state has a legitimate interest since it's operated on state land and share liability. Making improvements without permits and getting away with it is hardly a good excuse.
That being said, an armed shutdown is an overreaction and those involved show their ignorance and inability to deal with even the most benign issue. Good example of liberal policy run amok. Good show liberal Massachusetts, keep voting for leftists.

I am beginning to think it is not an issue of liberal or conservative. The issue is these agencies who have no one to answer to. Laws are passed but these people think they can bully everyone around because there is no one to stop them.

No, this is out and out tyranny. Its all over. Its the localities shutting down lemonaid stands, bake sales, and soda in high schools. Its Michelle, My Belle, eating healthy (or eating cardboard) or else. Its in the TSA molesting good looking (white) women and actresses, little kids, and nuns. Its in the EPA terrorizing that couple who just wanted to build a house on their own property. Its the Food Police taking away the lunch the mom packed for her little daughter. Its in the drones now flying overhead. Its the FEMA Camps now being set up just in case (in case of what they don't tell us). Its in the spending of a trillion dollars a year more than we take in, so O'Disaster can shut down real energy and hand out loans guaratees to rich donors, including George Kaiser and Robert Kennedy.
And its Democrap operatives who harass Rush Limbaugh advertisers, ALEC donors, and Romney donors.

This is what the people of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts voted for.

At some point you have to call the Americanism of the jack boots into question. What kind of American does this? Not anyone I would call my American brother, and most certainly not one who shares the same values our Founding Fathers shared.
At some point a Patriot is going to have to make a stand. Who it will be, where and when is unknown, but it may just be the 2nd "Shot heard 'round the world."
Just out of curiosity, does the owner of the ice cream place support Republicans either at the state or federal level? Has he donated to Romney's campaign maybe? Did he ever vote against Bawney Fwank or the disgusting fat pig philanderer/murderer Ted Kennedy? Would be interested to know the answer to that.

Those high school kids are lucky they're not in jail. Imagine, selling ice cream for profit!

Has anyone ever really complained about getting sick from the ice cream? Or did some pencil pusher at the Massachusetts DCR suddenly realize there's an opportunity to squeeze maybe a hundred bucks out of a citizen? I guess Romneycare has been a hard burden on Massachusetts, if after 25 years they're now bringing down the regulation hammer on an ice cream stand.

The ice cream stand is now open after an effort by Congressional Candidate Tom Weaver and the Local Tea party . He has been spearheading an effort to buy ice cream at the stand to help them regain profits lost. See link below

The stand is again open and I had a delicious ice cream cone there Saturday after finding out about the forced government shut down on facebook! The ongoing event to help the farm can be found at:

Thanks to Tom Weaver for helping organize people over a real issue!
