CNN has blackballed our founder and editor-in-chief R. Emmett
Tyrrell, Jr.
Why?
Because in his new book
The Death of Liberalism, Bob Tyrrell labels President
Obama a — gasp! — “Stealth Socialist.”
Specifically, his book publicist reports that CNN actually
disinvited Bob from a show because the network felt calling the
president a “Stealth Socialist” was — are you ready? —
“Rude.”
Oh nooooooooooooooooooo! Imagine actually discussing such a
concept on CNN!!!!! OMG! Why… why… the nerve of Tyrrell to
espouse a serious conservative thought on a liberal network.
Or, as our friend and colleague Jed Babbin calls it in
his column today, “the Gatekeeper Media.” Says Jed — with an
unerring accuracy, considering he wrote his piece without knowing
of Tyrrell’s dis-invitation:
Yes, they’re at it again. Or I should say, “still.” The Obama
media — the Gatekeeper Media who try to control what people know
based on what fits their narrative — are proving almost daily that
they’re not in the news business. They are in the business of
political activism, aimed solely at getting their guy another four
years in the White House.
That is exactly what is going on here.
So Bob Tyrrell, founder and editor-in chief of a magazine now 45
years on the American scene, selected in the 1970s by Time magazine
as one of the rising stars in American media, recently interviewed
on Sean Hannity’s Fox and radio shows, and by Mark Levin, and with
his recent talk on the book to the Manhattan Institute carried by
C-SPAN — is out at CNN.
Why?
Because in the course of the Great American Debate he has a book
calling Barack Obama a “Stealth Socialist” — based on an actual
record in the White House. A record that manifests all manner of
socialist behavior, from buying General Motors with taxpayer money,
to dishing even more taxpayer bucks to favored companies like
Solyndra — and that’s before one gets to Obamacare and the
socialist saga of the imaginary Obama heroine named Julia, who is
feted with cradle-to-grave socialism.
You can’t make it up.
This kind of incident with Bob Tyrrell is exactly why CNN is
barely afloat in the ratings, losing big time to Fox. And why it
will drown if it isn’t careful.

Bob's lucky he's not going on CNN, because nobody would've seen him there, or bought his book because he went on there, because nobody watches that damn news channel anymore. You could stand on any corner with a megaphone, and have more people hear you, than you could by going on CNN!! They're dead, but they're the only ones who don't know it!!
Dittohead| 5.14.12 @ 9:15PM
He's not a socialist, he's a Kenyan Communist Islamofascist who is part of cult with Romney!

Meanwhile, a CNN host compares Romney to George Wallace and a MSNBC "guest" uses Ann Romney's name in the same sentence as Hitler and Stalin.

My only disagreement with Bob Tyrrell is that whatever stealthiness Obama had regarding his socialist tendencies was lost shortly after the 2008 campaign ended. Heck, even during the campaign, Obama said he wanted to "spread the wealth around" which is a good enough description of socialism. Didn't one of the major weekly magazines even headline "We are all socialists now?" Too late to take it back now.
In any event, this incident of intolerance is just more evidence that much of the mainstream media is no more than propaganda and entertainment. We need a fully-deployed alternative media to get the truth out and American Spectator is a valuable part of this new media.
Bob K.| 5.14.12 @ 7:51PM
Why in hell is everyone so serious about this?
Look at the magazine's Table of Contents. Near the end of the magazine is a monthly feature known as CURRENT WISDOM. The contributors to it are collectively known as "Assorted Jackasses."
This is where Mr. Lord should have placed this.
The Spectacle Blog should have a CURRENT WISDOM as a daily feature! Just pick any comment at random from CNN to get the days ration of idiocy.

CNN is acting like this is a sequel to Tyrrell's
" Boy Clinton ."
Can you imagine the outrage if Tyrrell had called Obama our first
gay president ?
Oh wait..
Page 122 " Dreams from My Father" :
" Political discussions , the kind that at Occidental had once seemed so intense and purposeful, came to take on the flavor of the socialist conferences I sometimes attended at Cooper Union..."

In any event, this incident of intolerance is simply additional proof that a lot of of the mainstream media isn't any quite propaganda and entertainment. we want a completely deployed different media to induce the reality out and yank Spectator may be a valuable a part of this new media
Occam's Tool| 5.15.12 @ 12:44AM
Well, they should blackball him, because Obama is a treasonous Communist sympathizer, not a mere Socialist. Emmett doesn't have it right. By the way, it is not fair that I have to type this while looking at Jennifer Hudson's breasts.
Al Adab| 5.15.12 @ 2:46PM
Agreed. Stealth nothing. What do all these people think, "fundamentally transform America" meant?

So he gets blackballed for being "rude" to a sitting president? Then what happened to all the guests CNN had for the eight years that Bush was president? Was this policy only put in place when Obama came to power? What's the matter CNN, didn't want to hurt The Chosen One's ego?
glenny| 5.15.12 @ 3:19PM
Geez, anyone at CNN ever watch James Carville, Paul Begala or Roland (or, is that Rotund?) Martin and listen to their comments re: Bush/Cheney/Rove/Rumsfeld/etc????
Rude, thy name is CNN.

The media will to anything and everything to protect and help re-elect B. Hussein Obama.
But it will all be for naught.

This comes as no surprise AT ALL. "The Emperor's New Clothes", if written today, would have an entirely different meaning; the boy who pointed out the Emperor's nakedness would be torn apart by the mob of sycophants, his entire family would be the subject of endless accusations and insults by the town crier, and everything they own would be confiscated by the Emperor to be redistributed 'for the common good'
martin j smith| 5.15.12 @ 7:30AM
You know CNBC felt it their right to not allow an opponent to argue any opposing view on a recent interview. Its really getting time to stop watch TV and even in the case of FOX NEWS if you dare do so selectively.
JimH| 5.15.12 @ 8:17AM
Maybe CNN confusing the US with Thailand was concerned about a possible case of lese majeste.

Being banned by CNN should produce at least a Silver Star Medal for Emmett.
Wear it proudly, Sir.
Al Adab| 5.15.12 @ 2:48PM
Absolutely, where can we send it?
Bob Miller| 5.15.12 @ 8:51AM
Maybe they got him on accuracy---socialist Obama's "stealth" is not so stealthy lately.
JASmius | 5.15.12 @ 10:26AM
Surprising, isn't it? Booking an opposition guest who publicly calls their big-earred demigod a "socialist" would seem to be right in CNN's wheelhouse. Surely they should be eager to have Tyrrell on so they can witheringly ridicule and humiliate him for his risible rhetorical extremism and hold him up as a prime example of the GOP and the kind of Amerika its 2012 nominee would create, right?
Or perhaps they fear that the heads of their sad, dwindling remnant of an audience would nod in concurrence at ERT's characterization.
Better that CNN look cowardly than that the truth get further airing at a time when The One can least afford it - a fascinating omen for the fall campaign to come.
JASmius | 5.15.12 @ 11:28AM
There is another possibility: CNN would rather have little or no viewership than attract the "wrong" (i.e. conservative) sort of audience. T'would soil 'em, dontcha know.
Besides, CNN're all socialists, too, and no doubt resent having to compete for viewers in the media marketplace; they'd be perfectly content to be government-funded like NPR and have the Chicago Cherubim simply ban every non-Obamunist media outlet and force Americans to watch their propaganda dreck with alligator clamps holding their eyelids open. The Narrative trumps all - even their own financial survival.
Bob K.| 5.15.12 @ 10:45AM
Book the guest then ban the guest!
Does anybody see the irony in this?
Keep Tyrrell as a guest there to ridicule him? Hah! They would be instructed by him in turn on the real art of ridicule! Shows like this would increase their ratings! New viewers would flock to it to see the liberal twits mocked.
CNN has been a collection of boobs forever! They should be grateful for any new viewers who will turn on their news shows to see this illustrated and enjoy belly laughs watching it.
Mrs. Vito| 5.15.12 @ 11:48AM
F*ck CNN!!! No one watches them anyway. In fact, their ratings are pathetic compared to FOX. They can't handle the truth.....
Jimbo| 5.15.12 @ 3:07PM
Completely agree with CNN on this one...there is nothing stealthy about Obama being a socialist.
rrpjr| 5.15.12 @ 3:41PM
Why would this bother them? I thought they were proud of being Socialists. Didn't they say "we're all Socialists now"? (Or was that Newsweek?) Do they think there's a stigma attached to being a Socialist? More importantly, why does Obama have to operate as a "stealth" Socialist? Doesn't he believe in his own philosophy? Reagan proudly championed conservatism -- why can't Obama do the same with Socialism?
