The Spectacle Blog

I just got through reading Washington Post reporter Jason Horowitz’s “expose” of Mitt Romney’s prep school days the centerpiece of which focuses on an alleged bullying incident of a gay student in 1965.

If the Washington Post and other liberal media outlets insist on getting the skinny on Romney’s day to day life from the age of 12 to 18 then the very least they can do is to at long last release President Obama’s college transcripts from Occidental, Columbia University and Harvard Law School. Does it really have to take a $10,000 bounty to find about Obama’s academic records?

And what about the Rashidi Khalidi tape the Los Angeles Times is still guarding with its dear life? What was said (or perhaps not said) by either Obama or by Khalidi, a onetime mouthpiece for the PLO, that is unfit to be seen or heard by the American public? Remember this tribute dinner for Khalidi happened in 2003 when Obama was in his early forties, a Senior Lecturer in Constitutional Law at the University of Chicago, an Illinois State Senator, and a year removed from making his national debut at the Democratic National Convention in Boston. So whatever was said (or not said) cannot be excused by youthful hijinks.

But getting back to Romney, let’s suppose for argument’s sake that every word Horowitz wrote is true. Consider this passage:

In later years, after Romney went on a Mormon mission, married and raised five sons, he seemed a different person to some old classmates. “Mitt began to change as a person when he met Ann Davies. He gradually became a more serious person. She was part of the process of him maturing and becoming more of the person he is today,” said Jim Bailey, who was a classmate of Romney’s at Cranbrook and later at Harvard.

In which case, are we to judge Romney by a single thoughtless act committed at around the same time The Beatles were recording Help! or are we to judge him by the man he’s been since Ann Romney came into his life?

UPDATE: Needless to say, it would seem that every word Horowitz wrote is not true. So say John Lauber’s sisters. But then again how can you be long bothered by an incident you only just became aware of? The New York Post even says, “Shame on The Washington Post.” Not that it’s stopping Martin Bashir at MSNBC. As far as the liberal media is concerned the facts be damned. They’ve got a President to re-elect.

Exactly Aaron.....his transcripts are hidden because, I believe, it will show he took a scholarship intended for foreign students because he probably was (or is) an Indonesian citizen or perhaps even a British "subject", due to is father.

Then there's the whole Khalidi tape from Los Angeles.

I thought of the perfect response from Romney. Just have him ask the press "When was the last time you did something stupid in your earlier years...(long pause)...like vote Democrat?"

Put it on You Tube with a Facebook link. I figure about 5,000,000 hits in a week and a lot of new friends.

Occam's Tool| 5.10.12 @ 5:30PM

Romney has become a very good man. recall his saving the life of a teenage daughter of a partner BY SHUTTING BAIN DOWN AND DEVOTING ALL ITS RESOURCES TO FINDING HER.

Or saving the lives of a drowning family and its dog while he was governor---personally.

The Media are desperate. Their Candidate is a bag of scum. Personally, I just want to see the tape no matter how it is obtained. Pentagon Papers and Deep Throat go both ways, Lefty scum.

Jobe| 5.11.12 @ 9:07AM

Romney and his team should hit hard and often about the secrecy with which obama and his cohorts guard his life up to 2004. None of his classmates, friends, old romantic relationships, relatives, teachers, colleagues, etc. pop up. If Clinton had had this kind of anonymity, he would never have had the "bimbo eruptions" that he suffered during his campaigns. obama is a cipher, a creation, and not a very good one at that. He is fit to be neither president of the nation, nor president of a recreation league of softball teams.

Occam's Tool| 5.10.12 @ 5:32PM

He was 18 years old, if that, and apologized. This was the age that Obama was doing cocaine, folks.

Simon Templar| 5.10.12 @ 5:40PM

Taking this seriously in any manner or shape or form is only giving the Left what they want. This should be openly laughed at and ridiculed for what it is - lame desperation, ridiculousness, and incredible hypocrisy.
The dog story and now the teenage prank. Unbelievable.

The jackass eats dog, has communist for parents, and snorts cocaine and they do not seem to care.

It looks like the Obama campaign is going to be full of exploding cigars this time, thanks to the alternative media.

First, the mainstream media and Obama decided to attack Rush over his comments about Sandra Fluke and their hypocrisy was quickly exposed by their silence over Bill Maher's revolting comments on women. Second, they attack Romney for putting a dog kennel on the roof of his car 30 or so years ago, only to have another story quote Obama about eating dogs. Third, a Democratic governor tells the press that women won't vote for Romney because Mormons were known to practice polygamy over 100 years ago, but it just reminded us that Obama's father was a polygamist.

Now each time they raise some obscure thing in Romney's past, you know the call will come forth for the media to look into Obama's past in the same detail. Obama and the mainstream media have run out of excuses and credibility. We are going to have some fun for the next 6 months.

We will see all of the "Inconvenient Truths" of the 0bama story when the reward is more than $10K. We need to set up a website to donate. I would happily eat pasta and marinara sauce for a month and kick in $20. Maybe you guys can get on it instead of printing the drivel from Ben Stein?

JmsA| 5.10.12 @ 5:56PM

Were it not for the damage he's done and doing to the country, I'd enjoy his (political) undoing a great deal more. As to the heading questions: upon forging of the former and editing of the latter.

Bill| 5.10.12 @ 6:01PM

Obama ain't got no college transcript 'cause he ain't never went to college in the first place.

Calvin| 5.10.12 @ 7:37PM

Bill reminds of a liberal pal of mine when he tries to be clever. Liberals should never try to be clever.

Albert Constantine Jr.| 5.11.12 @ 12:10AM

I think Bill does that because he really is a liberal pretending to be a redneck provocateur.

Greg| 5.10.12 @ 7:37PM

When will we get an expose on BHO's tranny nanny in Indonesia?

SpiralArchitect| 5.10.12 @ 8:00PM

Whether it is divide & conquer or simply cut & paste Team Marx will not stop nor can they.

Keep trumpeting your message, people will hear you.

Anthony M| 5.10.12 @ 9:19PM

I guess we'll be seeing interviews with Obama's former school chums, the ones he was smoking and snorting with, I can't wait for the exploration of his rumored homosexuality while living in NYC. His associations with terrorists and criminals. And of course, to be fair, I heard Mitt once left a whoopie cushion on the chair of one of his college professors.

Greg| 5.10.12 @ 9:44PM

Way too much smoke not be a little fire.

Oldefarte| 5.10.12 @ 9:40PM

On this issue, there is one essential difference between Romney and Obama......one GREW UP AND WORKED IN THE ADULT WORLD OF BUSINESS FINANCE, WHILE THE OTHER BECAME A PROFESSIONAL STUDENT AND STREET HUSTLING-COMMUNITY ORGANIZER!!!!

Oldefarte| 5.10.12 @ 9:44PM

PS: Instead of those college trnascripts, I prefer to see those college term papers [as to political positions taken]!!!!!

Nite| 5.10.12 @ 10:09PM

You nailed it. I doubt Obama has worked much in his life. He was put in place now in the WH in part with a lot of voter fraud. I expect Soros is the main one pulling the strings, but there may be more.

Jake| 5.10.12 @ 10:01PM

Obama's sister Maya Soetero Ng told the New York Times on May 18 , 2008 for the piece " The Long Run, The Story of Obama , Written By Obama "
that Michelle and Barack left the US sometime in the 1990s and moved to Bali, Indonesia
for several months so Barack could
finish his first book.
Was it to visit Saman, his Indonesian transvestite
nanny ?
The nanny who slept in the same bed as Obama as Saman told Janny Scott for her 2011 book about Obama's mother " A Singular Woman."
Did he have a hankering for dog ?
Did he long to hear the Muslim call to prayer?
Nicholas Kristof interviewed Obama for " Obama Man of the World " printed March 6, 2007 .
Obama sang the Muslim call to prayer
" in a first class accent. "
Obama described the Muslim call to prayer as the
" prettiest sound on earth ."
Did Kristof tape the interview ?
Can we all have the pleasure of hearing Obama sing the prayer as we heard him sing a song by Al Green ?
The incurious media has never asked Obama the particulars of why he and Michelle decamped for Indonesia during the Clinton years.
The activities of Romney as a 17 yr old are more important

Indy| 5.10.12 @ 10:07PM

What do we know about our President's past?

Interesting to see how off his timeline is on his own life story?

Tom LoCascio| 5.13.12 @ 7:18PM

This is something that EVERY American should see!

Jeff P| 5.11.12 @ 1:55AM

You just don't understand: Obama's past is off-limits. It is RACIST to inquire into his transcripts, acquaintances, recreational drug use, or unguarded public utterances.

Now let's get back to Romney's teenage pranks and his animal abuse.

Biff Romney| 5.11.12 @ 6:43AM

Remember "Macaca"? WaPo's MO hasn't changed much.

PattyMor| 5.11.12 @ 8:31AM

When will we see the Obama documents? When Hell freezes over or the Rapture, which ever comes first.

Persoanlly if I were a rich person, I'd hire the Moussad to gather the Obama docs and publish them on the internet. I would be worth the price.

John Hopgood| 5.11.12 @ 9:27AM

It is apparent the truth is difficult for you folks to understand. You are still suffering from Obama derangement syndrome....
The President is a US citizen, graduated from Harvard, is a Christian, a family man and will be elected to a second term.
We have all been guilty of youthful mis-deeds, but the President was never accused of leading a bunch of boys to attack a single person in order to humiliate them.
Willard was born into money. His career is built on shutting down businesses and eliminating jobs.
What does he stand for?
After reading the inane ideas on this thread, I am convinced 2012 will be a victory for President Obama and all the rest of us in the center!

Jim Woodward| 5.11.12 @ 10:06AM

The "center"?????

Charlene| 5.11.12 @ 10:17AM

Desperate distraction, nothing more. The mammoth level of irrelevance would be laughable if it weren't so pathetic. But I'll bite, for fun. Romney "bullied" at age 17. What was Obama doing at 17? Oh yea, that's right - smoking pot, drinking beer and snorting coke - IN HIS OWN WORDS. If the alleged bullying thing, that was supposed to have happened 40 years ago, is so important, so is the drinking and drug use by the President at age 17. Only the desperate and pathetic really gives a rats arse about either. To quote the left, "It's the economy stupid". Obama has been a 3 1/2 year failure; hence, the desperation. Thinking people aren't buying the smoke and circus mirror nonsense anymore - the gig is up. At any rate, I'll vote for the "bully" over the cokehead in a New York minute. I mean really. Are you that much of a dolt?

Occam's Tool| 5.14.12 @ 1:48AM

Started his career at Bill Ayers house; pastor is as antisemitic as david Duke, bought his Chicago home with favors from a felon, pals around with terrorists and Communists...yup, POTUS is a great guy.

A.C.| 5.11.12 @ 10:21AM

I confess, I do indeed suffer from O.D.S. at times. I mean, just the sound of his voice or the sight of his raised index finger, or the haughty lift of his chin makes me want to start cursing indisciminately, to start kicking my trash can, to start . . .
Whew, I'm much better now.
Yes, I'm afraid that no rational examination or comparison of the presidential candidates will matter. Barack Obama will be reelected due to demographics alone. The best that gentle, conservative people can do in this nation that is becoming ever more Stalinesque, is to continually devote themselves to their friends and family.
