John Tabin thinks a cushy job on K Street is in soon to be former Senator Richard Lugar’s future. While that is certainly a possibility, I have a feeling there might be bigger things on the horizon for the Hoosier who got dunked by Republicans in favor of Richard Mourdock in last night’s GOP primary.

Erick Erickson describes Lugar as “Barack Obama’s favorite Republican Senator.” As Cornell University Law School Professor William A. Jacobson reminds us that during the 2008 campaign, Obama touted his work with Lugar in a campaign ad passing legislation to rein in nuclear weaponry. Not only did Lugar not object to being mentioned in his ad, Lugar praised Obama’s approach on foreign policy and was even mentioned as a possible candidate to be appointed Secretary of State.

Well, Lugar can’t be happy with how he was treated by Indiana Republicans. It would come as no surprise to me if Lugar were to endorse Obama for a second term and if Obama were to be re-elected, he would be rewarded by being appointed Ambassador to Russia. Given how our current Ambassador Michael McFaul isn’t too happy with how he’s being followed by the Russian media I don’t think he’s long for the job and the post is Lugar’s for the asking.

In the meantime, I have a feeling Lugar is going to spend the day playing R. Dean Taylor’s “Indiana Wants Me” over and over again.

I could see it happening. Indiana appears to be going red again though.

The guy is 80! The average person in the US is lucky to still hold on to a job once they hit 60. Why should this out of touch kook be handed some cushy job at taxpayer expense...clearly he would NOT be doing the work. He has been riding the government paycheck gravy train long enough. We have kicked him off and he needs to stay off!

A brilliant remark few will understand.

Indy| 5.9.12 @ 10:16AM

Anyone else concerned about the remaining votes Lugar will cast before he leaves office? The big items will not be on the table until the Lame Duck Session...brace for impact.

Greg| 5.9.12 @ 12:33PM

Not really. Wouldn't be any different than the ones he has always cast.

Gary| 5.9.12 @ 10:32AM

The poster boy for term limits if there ever was one! Bitter in defeat becomes him I think; stay classy Dick!

I am glad that Lugar is gone...but I have one question...

Who are the 38% of Republican Primary voters...who went out and voted for a man (Lugar)...who is actually capable of endorsing the Bamster????

It's good that most Conservatives are Republicans are pretty bright...but we have some stupid people too....

Romney = McCain| 5.9.12 @ 11:12AM

Those 38% you speak of are the same type of voter who helped The Stupid Party shove Romney down the base's throat with their primary votes. Expect Romney to be "helpful" to Obama once he is defeated in November.

Al Adab| 5.9.12 @ 11:17AM

A Lugar endoarsement of Obama, even following this defeat (good riddance to "moserate" republicans) could help the DEMs retain IN electoral votes. That is where this game is being played. The GOP needs to capture about six of the eight states that voted Bush in '04 but Obama in '08. IN being one of them. NC another. This is going to be very ugly and the stakes are very high.

Oldefarte| 5.9.12 @ 1:32PM

If Romney is defeated, it will once again be because of idiots such as yourself:

Sorry, but folks in Indiana are obviously slow on the draw. The guy's 80 already.

Occam's Tool| 5.9.12 @ 11:30AM

"Indiana wants me" was about a wanted felon, wasn't it?

In other news, The Dalai Lama is against homosexual marriage.

Al Adab| 5.9.12 @ 12:32PM

O/T:
In other news the WVa Dem primary had a convicted felon serving time in Texas, get 40% against Obama.

Controse| 5.9.12 @ 1:03PM

I hope so. There is no RINO like a self-declared RINO.

Casey Abell| 5.9.12 @ 1:09PM

Well, the seat is now in play for the Dems. Polling is scarce but the Mourdock-Donnelly race looks close according to the only public poll available.

But I doubt the Dems want a Lugar endorsement of Obama. Barry ain't exactly real popular in Hoosier-land.

Oldefarte| 5.9.12 @ 1:30PM

To everyone, the following is what is at stake regarding November's election. As I've screamed numerous times here,...........IT'S THE DEMOCRATS, STUPIDS:

http://www.aim.org/special-rep.....y-exposed/

Bill Hussein O'Stalin| 5.9.12 @ 1:34PM

Lugar endorses Washington, D.C. INC. That's bad enough

PattyMor| 5.9.12 @ 2:13PM

Why are RINO's always so bitter when they lose? You'd almost think they are Democrats. You know entitled to their seat just by their billiance.

Marco2| 5.9.12 @ 4:54PM

If Lugar endorses Obama, who would care and what difference would it make? With a Romney win increasingly likely, it would also be plenty stupid, so he'll probably do it, never be seen in Republican circles again. All to the good. Time's up for the Lugars of this world.
