It’s On In Wisconsin

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, having defeated former Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk, will face Governor Scott Walker in the June 5 recall election. Falk was the union-backed candidates — and it was the unions who were the driving force behind the recall in the first place — but Barrett, who lost to Walker in 2010, had greater name recognition and the backing of much of the Democratic establishment. While the Democrats try to heal their intraparty rift — and accusations about the cancellation of a post-primary “unity rally” aren’t helping matters on that front — tonight’s results look like good news for Walker: He received more votes than Barrett and Falk combined.

While the anti-Walker votes do top the governor’s total when you add in the minor Democratic candidates and the Madison protester who ran a stunt candidacy on the Republican line, the strong turnout for Walker is a good sign: Republicans had little reason to show up for an essentially uncontested race, and the fact that so many did is a sign of enthusiasm going into next month’s election.

The Walker campaign is wasting no time going on the offensive; tonight they issued a pugnacious statement from deputy campaign manager Dan Blum:

As Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett enters the general election in his soon to be third statewide losing campaign, he will surely find that his record of raising taxes and promises to continue to do so will not resonate with voters. While Governor Walker’s term has seen unemployment drop to its lowest rate since 2008, unemployment under Tom Barrett has risen more than 28%. Rather than Tom Barrett’s path of taking Wisconsin back to the days of billion-dollar deficits, double-digit tax increases and record job loss, we are confident that voters will choose to stand with Governor Walker and move Wisconsin forward.

The Walker campaign already has a website dedicated to attacking “Tom the Taxer.” Expect a harsh month of campaigning in what is among the most important races of the year; Walker’s success or failure will have political resonance far beyond Wisconsin, setting a tone of either boldness or timidity for conservative reformers across the country.

win, lose or draw, we conservatives will have walker's back. people ask how to unite conservatives with republicans. scott walker is both the who and the how. we got lugar. we're trying to get hatch. wisconsin is where i--as a tea partier--will make my first major stand this cycle. don't forget kleefisch and neumann either.

I sure hope Walker wins. Tom Barret has got to be one of the dumbest politicians in the history of this state. The city hall is falling down on his head after he spent 77 million in an extravagnet restoration job. He wants to build and maintain a 100 million dollar one mile streetcar line which goes nowhere. He is spending over 100 million on West Lawn Housing project, within a few years of them spending tens of millions remodeling the place. He has torn down most of the project to build a wasteful community center and new housing that the city doesn't have the money to maintain. The city of Milwaukee is headed to where Detroit and Newark are. It will be a cow pasture in a few years. Talk about a depressing development.

"I sure hope Walker wins"? Shazam, for supposedly a Wisconsin resident to meekly state thus is mind boggling indeed. If the GD labor unions were attempting to capture, ruin and drive my state into the political toilet like they are with yours, I'd be much more adament concerning this election. Maybe like your blowbuddy Clint, you a disguised Democrat whose wallet is being stuffed by Medic Matters perhaps? If you people have any intelligence, you'll stop chasing Uncle Ron's TOO SHORT-SHORTS and instead concentrate on what's really important. Oh, and if you tow idiot wish to become educated on the truth, then read the following:

Oh and when you're finished reading the above, try this [and then contemplate what will happen to your Wisconsin after these labor union goons take over and if they can do so in Florida then then can do so in your state as well]:

'....Miami Herald: Thousands of Foreigners May be Illegally Voting in Florida
Tuesday, May 8, 2012 10:50 PMThousands of foreign citizens might be registered to vote in Florida – a crucial presidential swing state -- and could have unlawfully cast ballots in previous elections, the Miami Herald reported Tuesday night. If true, the finding would be a remarkable validation of conservative fears that undocumented aliens and resident non-citizens could be swaying elections in large, battleground states like Florida and New York.
The potential problem is largest in South Florida, especially in Florida’s largest county, Miami-Dade, where the elections supervisor is examining 2,000 potentially unlawful voters, Miami-based WFOR-CBS 4 News first reported Tuesday. .....Neighboring Broward County is examining 260 suspected foreign voters. One suspected noncitizen voter has been registered for about 40 years, CBS 4 found.Over the past year, the Florida Division of Elections has begun identifying potential foreigners on the rolls in coordination with the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, Division of Elections spokesman Chris Cate told The Miami Herald.
He said the state has forwarded the names to county elections supervisors, who are in charge of the rolls. “There will be more names,” Cate said.
There are 1.2 million registered voters in Miami-Dade. Two thousand voters would be more than enough to swing a close election in a state like Florida, where the 2000 presidential election was decided in favor of George W. Bush by 537 votes.
“If we find out after the fact that you are actually a noncitizen, and you are registered to vote, then we would report you to the State Attorney’s Office,” said Christina White, Miami-Dade’s deputy supervisor of elections, according to CBS ....“If you are not [a citizen] and you check the box on the registration form that says that you are [a citizen],” White said, “we are required to register you to vote, because you are taking that under oath.”..............'

Why can't Romney's campaign be like that?

PCP Smoker| 5.9.12 @ 6:31AM

Walker spanked Barrett in the last one , and he'll do it again. Libs need to face it, the once progressive WI is gone. Leading conservatives (Walker, Ryan, Johnson) are sprouting fast,

PattyMor| 5.9.12 @ 7:04AM

Tom the Taxer. Excellent marketing on the part of the Walker campaign; catchy and to the point. Go Walker and on to victory.

Pecos Pete| 5.9.12 @ 7:07AM

It was a good press release until the last word ... forward. If I were writing speeches and press releases the word "forward" would be removed from my lexicon.

Jack in Wi.| 5.9.12 @ 7:34AM

Forward is the motto of the State of Wisconsin.

Oldefarte| 5.9.12 @ 1:23PM

It's also the motto for [1] the Obama re-election campaign and [2] MSNBC ...........dummie!!!!

J.C.Eaton| 5.9.12 @ 3:09PM

It's also on the Wisconsin state flag....the same flag the Union Army in the person[s] of its' greatest unit, the Iron Brigade, bled out on during the Civil War. So Obama co-opted our motto, that doesn't destroy or even blemish its' heritage.....dummy!

J.C.Eaton| 5.9.12 @ 3:15PM

Sorry for the "dummy". I flew that flag from a wall in Gulf War I. Obama and his henchmen[women] will prostitute any good and patriotic symbol to win: they won't.

Greg| 5.9.12 @ 9:18AM

I saw that the 5 Democrats barely got more votes than Walker, who was running basically unopposed. Not a good omen for the Democrats up there.

Mike Daly | 5.9.12 @ 10:44AM

The unions have already suffered a huge loss with Hack Falk's defeat - Walker will edge out Barrett because people can no longer deny that unions and spendaholism are a recipe of failure.
