Business Insider’s Michael Brendan Dougherty and National Review’s Katrina Trinko notice Mitt Romney is suddenly using the “l word” to describe Barack Obama and his policies. A sampling BI provided from Romney’s speech in Michigan.

  • President Obama chose to apply liberal ideas of the past to a 21st century America.  Liberal policies didn’t work then, they haven’t worked over the last four years, and they won’t work in the future. … “
  • Old-school liberals saw a problem and thought a government-run program was the answer. Obamacare is the fulfillment of their dreams. …
  • Liberalism once taught that unions would ensure lasting prosperity for workers. …
  • The liberals of the past raised taxes, often with little thought of how they would hurt small business, and the economy. …
  • Old-school liberals envisioned government guiding and providing every need of every citizen. …
  • What does it say about the fiction of old liberalism to insist that good jobs and good schools and good wages will result from policies that have failed us, time and again?

Liberalism is consistently tied to the past, contradicting the Obama campaign slogan “forward.” Dougherty says Romney uses the word liberal more than twice as much in this speech as in his address to the Conservative Political Action Conference.

You can overdo it, however. I remember watching Bob Dole give a campaign speech on television in 1996. Dole went after “liberal Bill Clinton.” Getting a lackluster crowd reaction, he shouted, “Liberal, liberal, liberal Bill Clinton!

I doubt he will ever get around to using the 'S' word since it strikes so close to home in RomneyCare...

RomneyCare -- Oops...

Romneycare, gay marriage, flip fopper on abortion, slave to the military complex and the Fed and led by the nose by his neoconservative advisors. Romney is one big liberal who is quite unconvincing as a conservative.

Amazing: The MA progressive is going to paste the "L" word on obama.

It just reminds me why I'm not voting for either.

That'll show 'em!

He can say it all day long and its true. The only tiny little glitch in this line of attack is that Romney was pretty liberal as governor of Taxachusettes and these policies will be thrown back in his face.

Mitt Romney complainign about liberalism has about as much credability as a Playboy centerfold complaining about promiscuity.

Hi Clinty. You give yourself away always talking about sex. What does that say about you...talk....talk. How's the Ron Paul blow up doll?

Micky Mouse having another one of his delusions; like the ones he has whenever he tries to pass the Mittster off as a genuine conservative.

Bibi's Towel Boy, Little Micky's Tryin' To Distract Attention Away From Mittens.

" Gingrich: Conservatives Won't Let Wall St. And Romney "Buy Election"

"Look, the conservative movement is not going to sit by and let a Massachusetts liberal, who's pro-abortion, pro-gun control, pro-tax increase, pro-gay rights, whose Romneycare in two articles in the last 24 hours were described as the equivalent of Obamacare and who George Soros says is just fine. He'd be happy with either Obama or Romney [be]cause they are both the establishment -- that's just George Soros," Newt Gingrich told FOX News' Bret Baier on the campaign trail in Tampa, Florida.

"Now, the conservative movement isn't going to sit back and say 'Oh yes, let's let Wall Street, and Goldman Sachs and Mitt Romney buy the election. So you're going to see a real grass roots fight. It will be people power vs. Goldman Sachs and Mitt Romney," he added."

One would hope that this election doesn't degenerate to two liberals condemning each other as liberals.

smokedaddy| 5.8.12 @ 5:55PM

Liberal? If only. How bout the "S" word for truth in labeling?
