The Spectacle Blog

My magazine story about Scott Brown’s challenges in the Massachusetts Senate race is now available on the main site. But don’t miss Howie Carr’s takedown of Elizabeth Warren.

Last week, news broke that Harvard Law had cited Warren as a minority hire — a Native American — when it was under criticism for lack of faculty diversity in 1996. Asked Friday for proof of her Indian ancestry, Warren’s said it’s part of her family “lore.”

She also said she couldn’t “recall” if she’d ever claimed minority status when applying for a job and that she’d never known of Harvard’s 1996 boast until Friday. When Brown’s campaign demanded that Warren apologize for taking part in a “diversity sham,” she said her campaign is searching for “evidence” of her Native American lineage.

Warren’s tax returns also suggest that this heroine of the 99 percent is, contrary to Occupy family lore, a member of the 1 percent. She also recently had to admit she didn’t pay the voluntary higher Massachusetts income tax rate, preferring to benefit from Republican tax cuts like everyone else.

I hope this story has legs.

Elizabeth Warren is a self-proclaimed anarcist, founder of the OWS.

Democrat speak with forked tongue, make heap big wampum at Harvard gaming system while real Indians starve on reservation.

I would like to apologize to Native Americans for the prior offensive post, and let me say I share your outrage at privileged lilly white patricians abusing the affirmative action system.

Just think of all those Irish cops and fireman in Southie who have been pushed aside due toi affirmative action - what must they think of Warren gaming the system that keeps them down.

After what Andrew Jackson (considered to be a founder of the Democrat Party, and credited with adopting the jackass as the party symbol) did to the Cherokee Nation, it is even more ironic that this is the tribe that the genealogist claims Ms. Warren has in her heritage.

It's like Soul Man without the skin color change.

(Look up this classic movie.)

I liked Mr. Howell better in Red Dawn, though.

C Bowen | 5.1.12 @ 7:12PM

Howell's Red Dawn death scene had Milius written all over it. Man with gun, against high tech machine, doomed to fail, but fail gloriously.

As an Ernst Junger reader, the scene still carries meaning.

I saw that scene again this weekend, and I believe the Wolverines nail one of those HIND helicopters. My youngest son tells me it is being re-done, but I don't see how it can be improved, in the absence of a Soviet Union and a fear in Hollywood of provoking the Chinese.

I read an interview of Milius some decades ago where I seem to recall he said "The Searchers" was his favorite film, and he named his son Ethan after John Wayne's character in that story. When one views his films, he continues to make an homage to the type.

C Bowen| 5.2.12 @ 9:31AM

Milius was (is to some extent still) a Nietzschian in Hollywood and got a break in screenplays in being close to Francis Ford Coppola. You can see Milius touches in Apocalypse Now and Conan the Barbarian (as well as Red Dawn of course).

Howell put up a face scarf and fired his AK as the HIND cannons finished him off, but the music was glorious. Perhaps some Junger Storm of Steel in that scene.

Then Jed fired an RPG that took down a HIND--this was symbolic of the Afghanistan mujahedin that the US was then aiding with RPGs, now fighting.

Jennifer Grey is injured in the battle but goes out guerrilla partisan style with a grenade trap on her body.

Remake is a PC disaster if going by the casting, but has an interesting backstory. Originally, China was the bad guy, but the Chinese bought parts of the producer, and they refilmed to make the bad guy, improbably, the North Koreans.

1/32 native american, 31/32 dumb bitch...

valleyforge| 5.1.12 @ 5:40PM

Both Warren and her husband made around 350k a year as Harvard professors. Now we know why Democrats want to keep down student loan rates. It's a direct subsidy to a core part of their constituency: grossly overpaid academics.

I love this. She's spiking the diversity football!

My daughter is full blooded Mayan Indian. My son's biological Mom is Mayan. However, Dartmouth is not looking for Mayan Indians, which is bizarre.

Bullshit hire. You can look at my kids and see the true Native. You just can't see the chess playing intensity, is all.

I have to chortle at the comments I have read in various articles on this subject the last couple days. Seems Warren does not have a DCIB card (Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood). The question to her should be what has she done to obtain documentation that she is a registered member of the Cherokee Tribe. If she has nothing and has done nothing, then she should not be claiming to have Cherokee blood. (She was born and raised in Oklahoma where the vast majority of people know what a CDIB card is -- whether they are Indian or not.)

January24| 5.3.12 @ 9:08PM

Just another lying Democrat. For them, lying is like breathing -- very natural. I hope very much that Massachusetts voters repudiate her for her gross corruptness.
