The Spectacle Blog

I saw this posted on Real Clear Politics, and it’s worth a listen by the Romney people.

It’s an audio of Mark Levin on “The Speech Romney Should Give.”

Governor Romney gave a speech to a group of wealthy supporters and made the classic moderate Republican mistake of dissing “true believers” — i.e., conservatives.

Somebody on Team Romney needs to have a discussion on conservatives with the candidate. The Governor is clearly a smart guy, a good man and he would be head and shoulders a better president than his soon-to-be opponent.

But if this attitude persists it can either lose an election that shouldn’t be lost… or lose an administration that will need every last bit of conservative support to succeed.

Take a listen to Levin’s “Romney speech.” Appropriate: The Patton theme song!

Why is the Patton theme song appropriate? Because Levin is a warmongering Neocon Chickenhawk?

Crassus| 4.17.12 @ 3:42PM

NEOCON!!!!! NEOCON!!!!!

Clint| 4.17.12 @ 11:45PM

Call Bibi.

WL| 4.17.12 @ 5:54PM

Aw Geez..

Why don't you people go find a website that represents your point of view??? I mean, I and others understand well that none of us agree with the columnists or each other all the time...

But you idiots with all of you "Neocon Chickenhawk"..."Isreal Firster" and the rest of the ridiculous crap are in a class all by yourselves.

I am actually starting to think that you people are as stupid as the Democrat voters. Life must really suck for you malcontented rubes.

Waaah. Why don't you Neoconmen fanboys find another web site? It's called The Weekly Standard, brought to you by the slimy folks that suckered the Bushes into Gulf Wars I & II.

aware| 4.18.12 @ 6:53AM

Bravo!

spike59| 4.19.12 @ 7:16AM

i can understand why you and widdle cwint eschew the Weekly Standard; it probably takes all day for either of you to look up the 'big words'

Vern Crisler| 4.17.12 @ 1:14PM

Ahhgh, the first person who always posts always has to be a Lew Rockwell loon.

aware| 4.18.12 @ 6:56AM

You mean the site that runs articles by Walter Williams, Thomas Sowell, and Eric Peters?

Yeah, real loons.

Dai Alanye | 4.17.12 @ 1:40PM

I particularly liked Romney's "Republican Dream Act." Because getting him Hispanic votes is more important than the long-run interests of the nation.

But I recognize the possibility that this position of Mitt's might be temporary, just as his pose as a conservative will be. Once it has served its purpose of getting him elected it can be discarded.

rightasrain| 4.17.12 @ 1:49PM

I thought Romney talked about all the governmental agencies he wanted to close.

MikeN| 4.17.12 @ 2:11PM

We are going to keep seeing stories about what Romney should say, because he is a horrible candidate. I just hope all the Santorum voters won't be saying I told you so in November.

Al Adab| 4.17.12 @ 2:39PM

Many of us warned the GOP long loud and hard about nominating Romney. One cannot beat something with nothing. Count the electoral vote. '08 was 365 to 173. Tell me where the GOP with Romney as the nominee will find those hundred votes? Most states aren't even in play and the GOP would have to win all that are to prevail. Simply not a likly outcome with an unexciting nominee. Once again the GOp finds a candidate in the long line of Dewey, Ford, Dole, Bush 41 and McCain. Will they never learn?

BackToBasics| 4.17.12 @ 8:53PM

And add in left-of-center "winners" like Nixon and Bush II.

Will Not Vote For RMoney| 4.17.12 @ 3:08PM

Hi Mike, you are correct about RMoney being a horrible candidate & it won't just be Santorum voters saying, "I told you so" in November.

Crassus| 4.17.12 @ 6:07PM

And Little Ricky was a great candidate? Oh, come now, Michael.

MikeN| 4.17.12 @ 10:39PM

Yes I would give him a better chance of victory. Simply put, Santorum has a better chance of winning Ohio than Romney. Romney has better chances of flipping Florida, and perhaps also Virginia and North Carolina, and New Hampshire and Nevada. However, without Ohio, Romney cannot win. He would need New Hampshire, Nevada, New Mexico, AND Colorado, on top of North Carolina, Virginia, Florida, and Indiana. Santorum on the other hand has a better chance than ROmney in the midwest and a good chance of flipping Pennsylvania, Iowa, Minnesota, Michigan, and Wisconsin as well as Ohio. He could conceivably win without Florida, North Carolina, or Virginia.

spike59| 4.19.12 @ 7:33AM

(self)Righteous Ricky would be a 'target-rich' environment for the Democrats (second only to the Galveston Goofball, DrRonEarmark)...he'd win the social conservative vote handily, and would hand all the moderates and independents to the ObaMao camp

spike59| 4.19.12 @ 7:24AM

the fact that there ARE 'Santorum voters' is a clear indication that some folks don't 'get it'

Vern Crisler| 4.17.12 @ 2:14PM

BTW, NR just fired another racist from its masthead, Robert Weissberg. Never heard of him.

Oldefarte| 4.17.12 @ 2:52PM

Granted Romney never was a conservatives' conservative, but I'll take him anyday over Obama [or any Democrat]. Conservatives can box in and convince a Romney as to their viewpoints through political persuasion; but they will never stand a SNOBALLS CHANCE IN HELL of doing so with a radical idologue aka Democrat POTUS; and that is the DIFFERENCE. One represents SURVIVAL whereas the other represents COMPLETE DESTRUCTION of this country!!!!!!!!!!

9thID| 4.17.12 @ 6:02PM

You mean like the Tea Party's 2010 Shellacking forced the RINO establishment to actually do something conservative?! What a sad joke that was and continues to be. True Conservatives have every reason to believe that "to the left of McCain" Mitt RomneyCare cannot beat Comrade Barry, and even if he could, it will be even worse than the last two years of Rove/Bush...

The American Hitman| 4.17.12 @ 3:07PM

Conservatives can box in and convince a Romney as to their viewpoints through political persuasion

hahahahaha!

Will Not Vote For RMoney| 4.17.12 @ 3:13PM

T.A.H., he's REAL funny isn't he?????????? Especially when his caps lock key & punctuation keys stick. RMoney is toast in November, so there won't be RMoney for them to convince with conservative viewpoints & principles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mike| 4.17.12 @ 4:47PM

Hi Clint!

Clint| 4.17.12 @ 11:50PM

Hi Dr.Reich !

Michael| 4.18.12 @ 5:20PM

You really a hitman Clint?

spike59| 4.19.12 @ 7:25AM

only to a bag of cheetos

9thID| 4.17.12 @ 6:05PM

Blame the RINOs as much as the Obamabots for the next 4 years of hell...

Tom| 4.17.12 @ 7:27PM

Tying to make Mr. Etch-a-Sketch sound like a conservative is like tying to make a fish sound like a horse.

SpiralArchitect| 4.18.12 @ 7:19PM

The Incredible Mr. Limpet could, np!

RJ| 4.17.12 @ 8:00PM

Good speech by Mark Levin. Romney continues to fail to provide evidence that he is a limited government conservative. Since he does seem to blow with the wind, we need to be sure that we create a gale-force wind of conservatism to blow him in the right direction.

RJ| 4.17.12 @ 8:03PM

PS - The Patton theme song is one of my all-time favorites. I always enjoy hearing it. Great movie too.

albert constantine jr.| 4.18.12 @ 10:05PM

I too like the movie and the theme. At this point, though, I think a shorter speech, accompanied by action, say set to the Reverberators "Comanche" (think Bruce Willis in the pawn shop torture chamber escape scene from "Pulp Fiction") as the presumptive nominee sorts through his metaphorical choice of weapons to defeat the evil forces raping the country would be even more to my liking.

Calvin Freiburger | 4.17.12 @ 8:11PM

In the quote you're referring to, Romney was in no way dissing "true believers."

http://campaign2012.washington.....ers/482796

"Romney said his campaign has been treated well by Fox News but that he needs to expand his audience beyond the leading cable news channel. 'Fox is watched by the true believers,' Romney told donors, according to the Wall Street Journal. 'We need to get the independents and the women.'"

Clearly, all he's saying is that, if you're trying to reach voters who aren't already a lock for the GOP vote in November, then the campaigns media strategy needs to broaden its scope beyond Fox. Which is only common sense, and can only be interpreted as an insult if we've now decided that the very phrase "true believers" is inherently offensive now.

Tom| 4.17.12 @ 8:42PM

Normally, I wouldn't take issue with a word you said. However, in this case, since when did Mr. Electability ever get a "lock" on "true believers" among conservatives within the Republican Party??

Floyd Looney| 4.17.12 @ 8:44PM

He should say:

"I quit"

gearjammer| 4.17.12 @ 9:34PM

The brain doctors who thought Christine Odonnell and Angle or Engle were dream candidates to die for have now declared Mitt a sure loser. Nuts !

somnolence| 4.17.12 @ 10:06PM

Obama loses N.C. , VA, NV, and FL this time around. And that is just for starters, as Colorado, Washington, Oregon, New Mexico, and Pennsylvania are also within Romney's grasp. Obama has nothing, repeat, nothing, except the union bosses in the minority to whom he bailed out and gave health coverage waivers to, and the benefit free riders. I'm telling you, it won't be as close as predicted. Those who choose to wait until 2016 when this supposed Tea Party shining knight will arrive better hope they are still alive by then if somehow they contribute to Barry's quest in November.

Scorpio51| 4.18.12 @ 8:25AM

So we're supposed to carry Mitt across the finish line?

Not this conservative. Santorum and Gingrich combined had more of the popular vote than Romney.

Also, tell me where is Romney going to find the rest of the electoral vote he needs? I say he doesn't get it. Then where are we? Right, 4 more years of Obama and TYRANNY!

Nice going GOP! When will you ever learn.

fmm| 4.18.12 @ 9:32AM

When will you ever learn is a better question. Not supporting the GOP candidate is a vote for Obama. That is not being a conservative.

spike59| 4.19.12 @ 7:27AM

ObaMao is grateful for your assistance

you dolt.
