Well who didn't know this was coming? They are going to destroy Romney with a billion dollars of truthful adds. Why vote for Romney when you can vote for the real thing? Boy do we need a real 3rd party that represnts real conservatives and real libertarians.
Clint| 4.12.12 @ 7:23PM
Obama Is A Tarpster, But Romney Is A Tarpster.
Obama Orchestrated Obamacare, But Romney Orchetrated Romneycare.
Drek| 4.12.12 @ 7:37PM
OK Jeff!
We all got it, we all knew it was coming, we were well ahead of the curve on that one.
So now instead of targeting Romney, who whether we like it or not is the standard bearer, can we target obama?
I was for Gingrich, other conservatives favoured others, but we were all well aware of the unique vulnerabilities of a Romney candidacy.
But idiots like Coulter, Lowry and others prevailed, so we're saddled with Romney.
So let's just go win the damn thing and not indulge the almost overwhelming temptation to endlessly go over all the reasons we should have avoided Romney.
Teflon93| 4.12.12 @ 7:39PM
Yeah, but we already saw that movie in 2008.
When it starred a war hero.
The ending sucked and we apparently never learned our lesson as here we go again.
Drek| 4.12.12 @ 9:14PM
Teflon,
YOU learned the lesson, the prob is that not enough other Republicans really understood what went down.
Teflon93| 4.12.12 @ 9:42PM
Drek, what makes you think they will next time?
The problem is the GOP leadership. That didn't change after 2008, didn't change after the Tea Party victories of 2010, and isn't going to change even if Romney gets whipped in Nov.
Either the leadership goes or the party does.
There's no other way conservatism moves forward.
Teflon93| 4.12.12 @ 9:45PM
And the lesson I learned was "Don't vote for RINOs." My wife and I vowed after McCain's various betrayals of the conservative cause in the campaign that we'd never hold our noses again.
There's simply nothing to be gained by it.
Drek| 4.13.12 @ 12:06AM
Yes, the GOP leadership needs to be purged.
I've been down on Capitol Hill urging precisely that, and you'd be surprised how many Congressmen and their staffers quietly, off the record, concur with that.
Teflon93| 4.13.12 @ 9:08AM
And what are they doing about it? They vote with them---on the debt ceiling increases, the continuing resolution extensions, etc. etc.
And the cry is always the same----"If we only had more Republicans we could really do something."
We gave you 56 more in the House in 2010 and you've done NOTHING.
When McClellan refused to fight, Lincoln found somebody who would.
It's time conservatives do the same.
Will Not Vote For Rmoney| 4.13.12 @ 12:52PM
This + 1,000,000. Teflon, how dare you make sense here. Just remember though, it will be the fault of conservatives like yourself & I when Obama wins his 2nd term. Glad I'm not alone. Take care & God bless you & your family always.
Teflon93| 4.13.12 @ 1:22PM
Well, that's a given, WNVFR.
The MittBots I don't fret about as the RINO apparatchiks have always been around and backstabbing conservatives.
It's the defeatist conservatives compromising cherished principles for a slim hope of an administration that might not be quite as left wing as Obama's that bothers me.
The Tea Party has demonstrated the enduring popularity of conservatism, liberals can't even use the label they stole from us for having poisoned it so with corruption and evil, and yet a good slug of conservatives are choking down anything Karl Rove and the RINO machine put in front of them. That's disturbing.
And God bless you and yours, too.
Windy City Commentary| 4.12.12 @ 7:55PM
Newsflash: there are still 18 more states who haven't voted. In the real world people would acknowledge this, but in the media created world, everyone says the primary is over. Can't Newt win a couple of these States, and make a game out of this, or are all the Santorum backers just going to go ahead and vote for Mitt?
How did Newt become disqualified to continue running for this nomination?
Teflon93| 4.12.12 @ 8:26PM
The Fox News Panel decided Mittens is IT.
No need for voting.
Mike| 4.12.12 @ 9:54PM
Gee I thought the voters in each state primary voted . Now you say Fox News did the voting.
Teflon93| 4.12.12 @ 10:02PM
You might emerge from the opium haze once in awhile to note that Fox News declared Romney inevitable before a ballot had been cast.
Mike| 4.12.12 @ 10:20PM
You may want to look up the definition of prediction versus declaring, and then tell us the day and time when Fox declared him the winner. And then you can explain why millions of voters went to the polls. Are you telling us Fox controls all these primaries by telling voters how to vote?
You are a nasty old man.
Teflon93| 4.12.12 @ 10:31PM
You are a mendacious little girl.
"Romney will be the nominee" is a declaration and a prediction. The two are not mutually exclusive, except in the tiny mind of the RINO.
You'll note Romney actually hasn't won the nomination yet, as that requires half the delegates for a first ballot win and both Gingrich and Paul remain in the race.
Santorum noted Fox News' pro-Romney bias:
http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-.....itt-romney
As did Gingrich:

You are a mendacious little girl.
For the adults in the room, providing facts in support of arguments is dispositive, so no harm done for all your whining and sniffling.
Drek| 4.12.12 @ 9:16PM
If he can stay in, comment on Fox News' behavior and bias, blast away at obama, push his ideas for using American energy resources to retire all existing debt, and if he can do that while influencing and shaping the GOP Platform, --- then that's good.
Fox News needs to be called out by somebody of some stature, some clout, somebody who can still draw attention.
Teflon93| 4.12.12 @ 9:43PM
Mark Levin's been doing that almost every day. They've really disgraced themselves.
Mike| 4.12.12 @ 9:57PM

Newsflash. Newt won only a couple primaries. The voters didn't vote for him. He cannot win enough delegates in the primaries to get nominated.
Teflon93| 4.12.12 @ 7:38PM
Half the fun is going to be watching clueless MittBots shocked at the pounding Their Man Mitt is going to take.
We. Told. You. So.
Drek| 4.12.12 @ 9:17PM
Obama is going to get pounded too.
Let's not forget that.
76% of the American people think the economy is in the hopper, that's one hell of a number for an incumbent trying to win reelection on.
Teflon93| 4.12.12 @ 9:46PM
FDR won 3 straight with that.
Drek| 4.13.12 @ 12:04AM
Obama isn't FDR.
Sometimes obama is Reagan, other times Lincoln or Lincolnesque.
But note the one guy the media makes sure not to compare obama to, and that is the one guy he most resembles, and that is the peanut farmer from Georgia.
Teflon93| 4.13.12 @ 9:10AM
The media paint him as FDR, though, and the suckers fall in line.
Including some on our side.

I just flashed on an episode from my callow youth and a weenie named Randy...
We were a mixed bag of really scruffy looking kids from the officer's quarters on a small seacoast post. The ages ranged from 10 up to 13 or 14, I think Bill was just 14. My best friend his brother Wayne was 12, I was 11 at the time. Well there were lots of other guys.. and one in particular was a really wimpy petulant sixth grader named Randy. He was pathetic, really - if he wasn't so personally nasty, you'd almost feel sorry for him.
We played football... I mean tackle fooball where the goal lines were concrete sidewalks.. no pads other than thick clothes and sweatshirts... no helmets, no cleats.. nothing.. We sort of fancied ourselves like Bill Cosby, Fat Albert, and his gang of friends we had a kid who was like Ole Weird Harold, a kid like Cosby's brother Russell... We LOVED TO PLAY TACKLE...
Well Randy didn't or wouldn't or wanted to but was too chicken. Until his equally nasty father demanded that we allow him to play... Randy shows up on the sideline.. and demands to be quarterback... huh? That was Bill's job. He stomped his feet and held his breath... made faces... and generally annoyed everone... one of the other kids playing defense... tells us.. "Hey! Go ahead and let Mr. Chicken play quarterback!..." He'll do just fine.
So we let Randy play quarterback just this one series... we designed up the play, and I hiked the ball to him... Tom counted 3 mississippi... and headed in ... I oops missed the block.. and Randy holding the football like it was a baby with crap in the diaper... just screamed... and Tom tackled him.
"You hit me!!! You hit me!!" Randy cried... "You hurt my arm!" Mr. Chicken promptly got up and minced away at the fastest speed that he could make... screaming that we had hurt him on purpose.
"We sort of had...", but hey... It was TACKLE and WE LOVED TO PLAY TACKLE... HEY, HEY HEY...
Romney might look a bit like Randy by late October...

Men like R. Emmet Tyrell, who put grudges ahead of liberty, by bashing Newt Gingrich during this campaign helped Romney. Who remembers this piece written by Tyrell back in January, right after South Carolina. Tyrell was a participant in Black Thursday.

So the voters are just not as smart as you and Teflon and John. You three sound like Axelrod.
Teflon93| 4.12.12 @ 10:20PM
18 states haven't even voted yet and most of the field was long gone by Super Tuesday.
Besides, you MittBot drones were claiming he was the nominee before a single ballot was cast and treated the primary process as an utter distraction from coronating your little Ruling Class liberal with the dreamy hair.
Mike| 4.12.12 @ 10:25PM
How is that an answer to the voters not voting for whoever you like? I assume you don't have an answer except to quote a book you don't understand and to insult all the voters who disagree with you. I guess you are just too smart for us drones.
Teflon93| 4.13.12 @ 9:13AM
I understand you're too stupid to understand a simple concept, but I'll repeat in case one of the orderlies might be able to drill it into you thru repetition alone:
You can't say "the voters have spoken" when less than half of them have---especially when you MittBot bootlicking drones have insisted we "rally behind the inevitable nominee" since BEFORE the first ballot was counted.
You have no interest in what the GOP primary voters think---it's been "ram Romney down their throats" the whole way thru.
Now take your meds---you're drooling on the floor again.
The American Hitman| 4.12.12 @ 10:54PM
Why do you think they call him the Hitman?
JeffC| 4.12.12 @ 8:17PM
and if Romney was running against a conservative in the general that would work but do they really think voters who don't like ObamaCare are going to vote for the guy it NAMED after ?

and if Romney was running against a conservative in the general that would work but do they really think voters who don't like ObamaCare are going to vote for the guy it NAMED after ?
Teflon93| 4.12.12 @ 8:58PM
So they'll vote for the guy who INVENTED it instead?
Socialized medicine was dead in this country before Mitt Romney resurrected it. Newt Gingrich had killed it back in 94.
Mike| 4.12.12 @ 10:02PM
Did you ever hear of Social Security Medicare and Medicaid and CHIPS. Hillarycare was defeated in 1993 by Specter and David Boren.
Teflon93| 4.12.12 @ 10:06PM
Romneycare isn't social security, medicare, medicaid, or CHIPS.
Newt Gingrich killed Hillarycare, with help from Harry and Louise. Arlen Specter showed a chart.
Mike| 4.12.12 @ 10:17PM
It is all the same, government health care, as is the VA. Are you on Medicare yet?
Teflon93| 4.12.12 @ 10:20PM
No, I pay for my health insurance and your food stamps.
Teflon93| 4.12.12 @ 10:24PM
And only an idiot fails to realize Romneycare went waaaaay beyond Medicare/Medicaid.
For one thing, no Catholic doctors were forced to kill babies under Medicare/Medicaid.
joeyslaptop | 4.13.12 @ 12:11AM
Errr... you're referring to Obama's mandate for religious non-profit healthcare providers to provide abortions and contraception or to get out of providing any and all healthcare services. I happen to be a donator to the Priests For Life campaign who are fighting Obama right now on the issue.
It is immoral to force people to act against their religion and their conscience to KILL an unborn baby before it ever even gets out of the womb. Our country was founded on the principle rights afforded to mankind by God - especially LIFE, liberty, and happiness.
Teflon93| 4.13.12 @ 9:20AM
Mitt Romney, 2002: “This state does provide Medicaid funding for abortions, and that’s something which I would keep in place.” (“Changing Statements On The Right To Choose,” The Boston Globe, 3/24/02)
1994: “Republican U.S. Senate hopeful W. Mitt Romney further distanced himself from anti-abortion forces at the start of the GOP state convention in Springfield, saying he does not want to be labeled a ‘pro-life’ candidate. Anti-abortion delegates are expected to caucus before today’s convention vote, but Romney said he will not meet with them. ‘I’m not seeking their endorsement,’ said Romney, who remains the clear favorite to win the party’s endorsement
today. ‘I think it’s important that people see me not as a pro-life candidate.’” (Joe Battenfeld, “Romney Assumes Role Of
Favorite,” Boston Herald, 5/14/94)
“GOP Senate hopeful W. Mitt Romney, who has
been accused of waffling on abortion, came down more firmly in the abortion rights camp yesterday, voicing support for the RU-486 ‘morning after’ abortion pill and a bill to ensure clinic access.” (Andrew Miga, “Romney Leans Toward Abort Rights Camp,” Boston Herald, 5/19/94)
2005, after his "epiphany" and "conversion":
“I respect and will protect a woman’s right to choose. This choice is a deeply personal one … Women should be free to choose based on their own beliefs, not mine and not the government’s. The truth is, no candidate in the Governor’s race in either party would deny women abortion
rights. So let’s end this argument that does not exist and stop the cynical, divisive attacks made only for political gain.” (Stephanie Ebbert, “Clarity Sought On Romney’s Abortion Stance,” The Boston Globe, 7/3/05)
Jeff P| 4.12.12 @ 9:44PM
"Moderates" have insisted for a year now that Mittens was the only one who could beat Obama. The O is about to prove how wrong they were. Romney has always been the most vulnerable candidate to Obama's attacks. I wouldn't be surprised if Obama beats him by a greater margin than he beat McCain, particularly if Mittens chooses a moderate Republican as running mate.
Get ready for four more of the O.
Norm Klevens| 4.12.12 @ 10:29PM
The man who the media said was fixated on religion and the Repub drones believed it, said this would be the case and it is the first order of business. Come to think of it, the RNC who shoved this guy in our face better defend this, as Massrom has failed at it. Romney is it and we need to swallow the bullet and support him.
joeyslaptop | 4.13.12 @ 12:01AM
So, how is ObamaCare like Romney Care?
It's like Mitt Romney used chest compressions as a technique to jump start hearts in Massachusetts, and Barack Obama decided it was a good enough technique to use to fix a broken leg, an appendicitis, and headaches. Then he mandated the technique nationwide. Then he blames Romney when "Romney Compressions" fail to work as "Obama Compressions" - and actually mostly just fails to revive the Obama reelection campaign.
Teflon93| 4.13.12 @ 9:23AM
It's more like Romney mandated that everybody in Massachusetts get chest compressions, regardless of whether or not they were in cardiac arrest, then advised it be used as a model for the nation in his book taking credit for the "success" of the effort, then sent the guy he handpicked to draft the details of it to Obama to do the same for him, then suddenly disavowed Obama's version for his own political game while steadfastly defending his own.
A lot more like that, in fact.
JP| 4.13.12 @ 11:00AM
Obama's strategy may be moot if the SCOTUS declares the entire ObamaCare law unconstitutional.
somnolence| 4.13.12 @ 1:14PM
Hmm. The latest Fox poll shows it isn't having much effect. WHATEVER Obama puts up he has forfeited for another chance. As another article today in TAS states, all Romney has to do now is stay POSITIVE and FOCUSED. People who know how to think KNOW that there is a demonstrable difference between both plans. I'm focused on beating Obama. A large percentage here obviously want him reelected. 2008 was then---this is now!!
Teflon93| 4.13.12 @ 1:23PM
Why don't you articulate the differences for us then?
somnolence| 4.13.12 @ 1:54PM
It all falls within the realm of states' legislation and federalism, Teflon. It isn't up to me to present at least 2.5-3 pages of differences. All I know is if you can't comprehend the differences, and that includes the author of this article, perhaps you should go back to primary school where you were supposed to learn phonics. As I said, so far this is just another distraction, like his endless class warfare, to avoid talking about his assault upon us all the last 3 years. Romney is no more the architect of Obamacare than Gingrich is, although both of them are forerunners, along with Hillary, FDR, Johnson, Reagan, and the Heritage Foundation of proposing blanket health care. Romney has already scored two gotcha moments against Obama this week, specifically on the 92% unemployment among women, and women who stay at home and raise kids. The past was then; this is now. Now go sulk that Gingrich and Santorum are both finished forever.
Teflon93| 4.13.12 @ 2:19PM
So empty bloviating, right?
I'll tell you one thing: this election season has really separated those of us who are conservatives first from those of you who will vote for anybody with the magic (-R) after their surname.
somnolence| 4.13.12 @ 2:43PM
I'll tell you. No one in America has a patent legitimacy on "conservatism" at the moment in its classic form. I can go around and call myself a conservative also, like you do. It proves nothing, but only adds to the apathy, yes, just as much as "moderates" do when they touch a nerve with you. I know it is effective because of your automatic reactionary charge of "empty bloviating". Works both ways, as you can't prove me wrong. Or would you rather engage in endless debate over it, taking up the rest of this particular page, etc. etc. So now, tell me, just who in the hell is "bloviating". BTW the word was popularized by a far more real conservative, Warren Harding, than 95% of those who call themselves that today.
Ross Kaminsky | 4.13.12 @ 2:46PM
I do believe that Romney will do everything he can to repeal Obamacare.
That said, Romney has a big problem with this issue -- no matter what the Supreme Court does.
He really needs to come up with a much better explanation, and perhaps even an apology, for Romneycare.
Yes, it is more different from Obamacare than many people say. Yes, the legislature changed it quite a bit. Yes, states have more flexibility to try different policies than the federal government does. But at the end of the day, he still supported and signed a government mandate which is a BIG problem for many conservative and libertarian voters.
He's in a tough political spot because he wants to try to appeal to those who find a mandate very hard to forgive while also being able to grab the key independent voters. It will be interesting to see how he threads that needle. He could end up basically making everyone unhappy.
Grace-Marie Turner has written a couple of great articles on this for AmSpec and they're well worth re-reading:

somnolence| 4.13.12 @ 3:32PM
The latest Fox Poll also shows Romney leading with independent voters. I don't place a lot of faith in polls, and it is very early, but if the Washington Post can try and spin the women "deficit" that Romney has, then surely I can pick and choose my polls also.
