Aaron rightly makes
note of Hilary Rosen’s phony (and belated) apology for
attacking Ann Romney and other work-at-home moms. However, there
is, I think, nothing phony about Rosen’s attack. It is, in fact,
part and parcel of a longstanding effort by many on the Left to
denigrate and demean women who choose not to work outside of the
home and to devote themselves instead to their families and
children.
There’s also this telling and damning fact: Rosen,
reports Jim Geraghty, has visited the White House 35 times.
That’s “four times as often as CIA director/Afghanistan
commander David Petraeus, three times as often as Defense
Secretary/CIA director Leon Panetta, twice as often as Secretary of
Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki or Energy Secretary Steven Chu, and
slightly less often than Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner.” And five
of Rosen’s White House meetings, Geraghty notes, were with
President Obama himself.
Given these facts, it’s clear beyond a reasonable doubt that,
despite their caterwauling, the Obama reelection campaign has been
in bed, so to speak, with Rosen. She is their political surrogate
and lackey. And, last night, they sent her out on a
search-and-destroy mission to take out and discredit Ann
Romney.
Unfortunately for the White House, Rosen failed miserably to
execute her mission and is now furiously backpedaling. Team Obama,
meanwhile, is trying to claim plausible deniability. (Hilary
Rosen? Who’s she?!)
But what does it say about our commander-in-chief that he and
his staff devote more of their time to consulting with a partisan
hack such as Rosen than they do a veteran military commander such
as Gen. Petraeus?
America may be at war overseas, but the Obama White House cares
only about its own domestic political wars.
Drek| 4.12.12 @ 9:12PM
It's going to be like this the rest of the campaign season, where we'll see one White House gambit after another all designed to distract, divide, make Republicans flinch and dodge, all designed to steer any and all coverage away from the economy.
Away from gasoline prices.
Away from rising food prices.
Away from governmental incompetence.
Away from the soaring casualties in Afghanistan.
You want to zero in for the kill? Zero in on the economy, for which obama has no excuse other than to blame Bush and blame the whole capitalistic system of the United States.
He might be President, but in his darkened soul he's still the community organizer/agitator, railing against capitalism and the United States.
Redatheart| 4.13.12 @ 8:33AM
Since Ms Rosen is a frequent visitor at the WH according to visitor logs, perhaps she had first hand observance of the way women are treated as per "Confidence Men" by Ron Suskind. Remember that bombshell book released last Sept? Mika B. on Morning Joe and other Obama supporters that warm chairs at MSNBC tried to desconstruct Suskind. There was a massive push-back effort to discredit him. The Pulitzer Prize winner used to be in good favor when he was writing hit pieces on GW Bush. When he did hundreds of hours of taped interviews at the Obama WH, and put them in print, he was swept away and hasn't been heard from since.
Ms. Rosen's own personal life--a failed relationship and broken family---might point to the reality that kids need parents and they need mothering and nuturing. She should avoid casting stones when her own house appears in disorder. Ann Romney put in 16 hour days raising her sons, unless one of them was sick and then she, like the rest of us caring Mom's, pulled an all-nighter, sitting up with her ailing child. All the Romney boys are fine, upstanding and successful. Our children are our best advertisement. On that score, Ann Romney is the top CEO of mom's. Also, as First Lady of MA, she had a job. She made appearances, gave speeches, entertained and worked. It was a job.
Ron Suskind, if you're still out there, see if MSNBC is interested in having you make the circuit again, dredging up the statements from Anita Dunn and Christine Romer in "Confidence Men". Not likely. Thanks are due, nonetheless, to Ms. Rosen for sending a non-issue to its early grave. Now we can focus on the REAL problems women face. Lily Ledbetter and 'standing for women' are a farce. More women are unemployed under this president and more women are on food stamps and in subsidized housing. He's done nothing but make life worse for American women.

great post.... you've hit the heads of multiple nails on the first try.
The thing I love the most about the Obama administration is its daily broadcast of one thing and to do the exact opposite of whatever they said.
From ALL reports, women are treated very shabbily in an by the Obama administration. And the fact that Lily and Hillary and the rest of the unfeminine women so easily are willing to denigrate those women unluckily enough to have a job in the public sector is disgraceful.

What I find most appauling is the fact that the media is POLITICALLY CORRECTING this whole matter. It's not about women who work versus those that don't. or about rich women versus poor women [and all with children]. It the single fact that this WH bunch of thugs sent out a LGBT lesbian with adopted children to attack politically a hetersexual wife/mother who raised five children successfully [by which I mean not having any obvious psychological problems due to the sexual status of either who/what their mother or father was]. No doubt the children of this woman in this homosexual relationship will futuristically face mental doubts/questions over same due to the confused state of sexual identity of their parents. We have reached a very sad state of affairs in this country when a homosexual can critisize a heterosexual over same's life choices. It has simply gone way too far indeed!!!!!!!!

Was Hilary Rosen The Obama Spin Doctor Behind Sandra Fluke? With the new reports today that DNC consultant Hilary Rosen has been an incredibly frequent visitor to the White House – at least 35 times, including five times directly with the president of the United States – questions are arising about her role in the furor surrounding the Sandra Fluke incident. As Bill O’Reilly first reported, Sandra Fluke’s press relations was run by SKDKnickerbocker, the firm of Anita Dunn and Rosen. Fluke testified before Congress in February; on February 29, Rush Limbaugh attacked her on air, using the word “slut,” for which he later apologized.
The timeline suggests that Rosen personally was an integral part of the coordinated leftist strategy to attack Limbaugh. On March 2, President Obama waded into the debate, calling Fluke personally. On March 20, Eric Wemple of the Washington Post contacted Dunn to ask about her representation of Fluke and her level of coordination with the White House. She responded:You should put this question directly to the White House, but I wasn’t involved in Sandra’s testimony or any arrangements around it …. My firm’s involvement with Sandra, through a friend of a friend, came about days after Rush Limbaugh attacked her on the air and the crush of media requests became more than she and a helpful friend could handle. The connection happened within days. Within three days, no doubt, just in time for President Obama to jump into the mix. But it wasn’t Dunn who was point-person on this case. That honor belonged to Hilary Rosen, who stated, “We are proud to provide pro-bono support to Sandra Fluke, an incredibly courageous young woman who is standing up for the rights of women everywhere in the face of sustained, personal attacks …. We were first connected to Sandra through one of her personal friends who came to us seeking our assistance.” While Dunn emailed Wemple the “Firm’s statement,” the statement wasn’t actually released until a week and a half after O’Reilly broke the news of SKDKnickerbocker’s involvement with Fluke.Dunn added, “I am not the person who is working with her, although I would be happy and honored to do so!”So, who was working with her? From the looks of it, Hilary Rosen. With Rosen’s close association with the White House, and the lack of visitor logs for 2012, it would be highly unlikely that there was no coordination between Rosen, the White House, and Fluke on the Limbaugh issue. And it is increasingly likely that Rosen was the PR genius advising the DNC and Obama behind the scenes.......'

i wonder if we, the taxpayers, can demand that the expense of the 'Fluke hearing' be charged to the ObaMao/Biden 2012 campaign, as it most surely was an orchestrated campaign stunt?

The 0bama madministration suffered a self-induced adverse and perverse consequence outlined in Merton's law of unintended consequences.
First? They riled up a large group of people who were either insulted by the Rosen comments. Hilary effectively thrust not just Ann Romney into the middle of the left's hysterical WOW meme, but also those of us who think that people like Ms. Rosen have no business telling the rest of us how to live. (I am appalled by the number of comments I read yesterday and the visciousness with which her sexual orientation was discussed but she threw the first stone and should have expected the bruhaha she created ...) And as Rush explained in his broadcast, an interview with a Boston newspaper during the time Mitt was governor talks about their early married years. No mention of cavier or servants .... If the Rosens of this world spent as much time on RESEARCH as they have previously spent HONING THEIR NARROW LIFE PERSPECTIVE, she wouldn't be sitting at her kitch table this morning wondering who is taking her calls and who isn't.
But the real unintended consquence? Did you spend any time yesterday on the comments at places like Breitbart, Hot Air, etc? Over and over and over people made comments along the lines of "0bama's never had a real job either," or commenting on the "job" created for flotus at the hospital in Chicago (so important dontchano that NO ONE was ever hired to fill it after she resigned). Over and over and over people commented that BOTH of the 0bama's had had to surrender their law licenses .... Is this really the argument they wanted to start? mmmmmmm Don't think so ....
There are people reading the new media that weren't paying attention four years ago. Some of what is being written is news to them. Rosen has provided a wonderful opening for the questions that were never answered to be asked again ... and people will learn that the madministration is smoke, mirrors and being thrust under the bus when the unintended consequences of doing the madministration's bidding is not in line with the dogma they dish. Hilary Rosen is just "collateral damage" to these people. They have ZERO integrity.

Excellent comment. It raises the question of why the coservative response to the Rosen affront has to be defensive. This has opened the door to an effective attack on the privileged lives of the Obamas. What qualifies the expensive first lady to a sinecure position at the Chicago hospital paying over $300,000 for doing what? It was nothing but a political grant and obviously did not represent a true job position because the fictional job disappeared when FLOTUS joined the Obama election campaign full time. We shoulld be attacking this Rosen rant by loudly asking whether granting Ann Romney a phony sinecure would have met Rosen's standard for holding a real job. Unfortunately, the republican startegists dare not raise this issue because of their fear of being labeled racists.
sotto voce| 4.13.12 @ 6:59PM
You're right about the unintended consequences of the Rosen blow back. Rush talked today about a "random act of journalism" performed by a St. Louis television interviewer, who asked Obama how he justifies all his lavish family vacations when so many Americans are suffering. Obama deflected the question badly, saying they're obligated to travel with Secret Service. As if that answered the question.
JimH| 4.13.12 @ 9:07AM
Since B.O. contrasted his wife’s working with Ann Romney’s choice of being a full time mom, it should be pointed out that unlike most working moms M.O had one specially created for her at a Chicago hospital paying 300K + while B.O. was a state senator. This job was so vital that it remains unfilled since she left it. This sounds like one of those, as they say in Blazing Saddles, phony baloney jobs.

[from Braitbart.com]
'..... by John Nolte 8 hours ago With the media completely on President Obama's side and his cynical, divisive national community organizing in a full racial and gender rage, two new polls show none of it's working. Furthermore, even though Governor Romney has not yet been crowned the GOP nominee or even turned his primary battleship around into a general election machine, he appears to be in the kind of shape the media would have you believe is impossible:Fox News yesterday:Republican Mitt Romney holds a slim edge over President Obama in a head-to-head matchup, a Fox News poll released Thursday shows. In addition, the poll finds the president’s job rating has dropped to its lowest point of the year. In a presidential matchup, Romney tops Obama by 46-44 percent if the election were today. Rasmussen Reports today:In a hypothetical Election 2012 matchup, Mitt Romney earns 48% of the vote, while President Obama attracts 44%. That's Romney's biggest advantage in over a month. It's certainly not helping President FailureTeleprompter that he's overseeing the worst economic "recovery" since the Great Depression, all after creating record deficits, and doing so in-between a record number of golf games and all kinds of taxpayer-funded lavish vacations. Another problem for Obama is that an incumbent below 50% is usually in trouble. After all, Americans have already had four years to kick the tires and take a test drive. Obviously, they don't like what they've seen and that means it's Mr. Romney's job to merely show himself to be the acceptable alternative. This reality is why Obama will be going from "hope and change" to "smear and scare" this year, an approach we've already seen with his phony War on Women crusade and the cynical exploitation of the Trayvon Martin shooting. And don’t forget his surrogate, Hilary Rosen's attempt to smear and marginalize Ann Romney, who everyone knows will be a huge asset to her husband's ticket. Worse news for the President is that immediately after the Obama-inspired attack on Ms. Romney Wednesday night, the Romney campaign proved itself a machine that's already efficient, able to capitalize, and ready to do battle.November is a long way off, but just the thought of Obama joining the ranks of the record number of unemployed his failed policies have created makes me giddy and, frankly, right now I'd rather be Romney than him.....'

"I looked on child rearing not only as a work of love and duty but as a profession that was fully as interesting and challenging as any honorable profession in the world and one that demanded the best I could bring it."
And Jacqueline Kennedy put it more succinctly. She said:

It is never, "I think he is a shuck and jive Chicago thug who dared anyone to question his (non-existent) credentials" and half the votes he got were on the vague, "I just thought we needed a change..." basis.

what this whole brouhaha is really all about is that we are witnessing the final death of leftist feminism:

Not if Obama is elected to a second term when he will have "more flexibility". Beware.

Obama's biggest problem with women is TRUST...All the lies...Gals don't go for it!
Romney too is suspect....Can we trust him? He had best convince us over and and over again...A
promise of ... " I WILL NEVER LIE TO YOU" would serve him good. "O" can never steal that line...NOBODY could possibly ever believe him!!!

They should be singing the praises of Sarah Palin. Not from a family of means so had to work the slime line in their fishing business, stayed home for awhile, but then got invoved in public service. What a woman after Hilary's heart.

Good analysis but conservatives need to bring out the underlying facts about the Romneys that serve them well and the Obamas poorly by comparison.
Mitt and Ann Romney both came from wealthy, privileged homes but chose self-reliance and independence, instead. When asked to describe himself in one word at the Arizona debate, Romney very easily said, "Resolute." That resolve easily describes both Romneys.
It takes considerable resolve to live in a squalid basement apartment with your new baby when abundant financial help is just a phone call away. It takes that same resolve for Ann to go to night school while Mitt takes day classes, so that they can trade childcare responsibilities themselves on top of their schooling. The price of a nanny or daycare was always just a phone call away but Ann and Mitt were resolved to make it on their own.
When Ann found out she had MS Mitt did not hire a cadre of professionals to take care of his wife. He cut back on his own activities to care for her himself. Both Romneys are resolute, self-reliant and independent. What they live is what they want available to us all.
By comparison, the Obams have never skipped a single privilege or luxury that came their way. The one word that best describes the Obamas is "opulent." They take every privilege of wealth and power to its opulent extreme.
So, the choice this year is between the opulent Obamas and the resolute Romneys. Which family can most Americans really relate to?

Democrats and their meedia propaganda arm are employing the tried and proven technique of Telling The Outrageous Lie/ Making The Slanderous Accusations which appear Front Page, Above the Fold in Bold Type. while the retraction and faux apology comes days later on page 26, two colimn inches alongside the price of porkbellies.
The damage is done, despite the denials. People will only remember the first thing they saw or heard on the subject.

If the going gets too tough on the Riches of the Romneys - perhaps we can relive a little Camelot - Jackie's designer wardrobe, she had everything but a tiara (maybe she had that, too) when they took Versailles by fashionable storm. Caroline's pony, Macaroni - Hyannisport, the home in Georgetown, which is not exactly a ghetto. Yachting with Aristotle Onassis after her miscarriage until JFK ordered her home, saying it looked bad. I read that was after some photographer snapped a picture of her diving nude off the ship in the Mediterranean. Finding love (or something) with Onassis later on. The only thing that could support her post-White House lifestyle was that gargoyle, Onassis.
Of course, nothing the rich boy, JFK, ever did "looked bad" because the press looked the other way. And yet, the myth of Camelot lives on. In 1960 it was OK for the Dems to elect a millionaire' son. It was OK even for the millionaire to buy the election for him and joke about it - - His parsimonious remark that he would buy just enough votes to get JFK elected and not a single one more.

No, the attack was successful. It cast some doubt on Mrs. Romney, as it was intended to do. So, far Obama has not had a glove laid on him. The guy is good (deflection via mockery and 'humor') and the media are still his staunch defenders and promoters. But there is a few hundred million dollars that has been used to dig up what Obama has buried and the same amount held out to broadcast it. Maybe some of the mud will stick during the real election campaign.
