Former Attorney General Ed Meese saw this coming.
President Obama is now operating in tandem with the New York
Times and other sympathetic media outlets to delegitimize not
just the Supreme Court, but the Constitution itself. This effort
can be traced back to
a front page NYT hit piece authored by Adam Liptak
that ran on July 24, 2010. The article is built around a database
created by the National Science Foundation (NSF) that gauges the
ideological complexion of court rulings and the leanings of
individual members. “In the database, votes favoring criminal
defendants, unions, people claiming discrimination or violation of
their civil rights are, for instance, said to be liberal,” the
report explains. “Decisions striking down economic regulations and
favoring prosecutors, employers and the government are said to be
conservative.”
In a
subsequent piece that ran in February, Liptak targets the
Constitution itself.
“The Constitution has seen better days,” the article begins.
From here, Liptak goes on to describe how the Constitution is no
longer a compelling model for other countries. He even quotes
sitting U.S. Supreme Court Association Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg
to drive the point home.
“I would not look to the United States Constitution if I were
drafting a constitution in the year 2012,” she said. As an
alternative, Ginsburg recommends looking to South Africa’s
constitution, the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, or the
European Convention on Human Rights.
General Meese suspects the NYT reports are deliberately
timed with White House actions.
“What he [Obama] is really doing is leading an effort to
undermine the Constitution as the primary document which forms the
basic principles of our government and the structure that should be
followed by the executive branches as well as the other two
branches,” Meese explained during a talk at this year’s
Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).
Mark Wohlschlegel, a staff attorney with Americans for Limited
Government (ALG), challenged Justice Ginsburg’s view of the
Constitution
in a recent report.
The Constitution “is not a document designed to empower the
government to protect its people, but rather one that was designed
to protects its people from their government,” he wrote.
It is now apparent that Team Obama views not just the Supreme
Court, but the Constitution itself as an obstacle.

Well, one didn't need to be "the Great Karnak" to see this one coming.
So Meese gets no points from me on this one.

I have great respect for Ed Meese, but you are right. Obama's contempt for the Constitution and any law that he disagrees with has been pretty clear since at least 2008.

As nothing much is known about the usurper before then. He was not an American patriot before he became a Leninist.

It's only now apparent? I would've thought the fact that the man presented a now proven-to-be forged birth certificate and selective service registration card years ago demonstrated his contempt for the Constitution. Or the czars. Or all the other usurpations. But now it's apparent? Sometimes I feel as if I am living in an alternate universe.

You're not the only one ...............

Yet the blatant fraud has no action taken against him time & time again.

I attack the Surpreme Court all the time. It violates the Constitution on a regular basis. Roe vs Wade was a disgace to everthing a free country should stand for. I dislike Obama, but we all can attack the Surpreme Court, and should if we believe it is wrong. The Surpreme Court is not the Surpreme Being.

So you have no problem when one branch of government tries to de-legitimize another branch of government, thereby undermining the separation of powers and the checks and balances protecting citizens from oppressive government, a system that was put in place by a people who just separated itself from an oppressive monarch and declared that they will never allow it again?
And how much did you say Media Matters pays you?

What does this post have to do with Ed Meese? And how is Obama linked to the NYT?
sotto voce| 4.5.12 @ 6:16PM
MikeN, you've wandered into the wrong blog. You belong over at HuffPost or The Daily Beast. Didn't you read the article? The author quoted recent remarks Ed Meese's made at CPAC about Obama's attempts to undermine the Constitution. And you must be joking when you ask how Obama is linked to the NYT. If you read that paper at all it should be clear that it's the de facto propaganda arm of Obama's administration.
Bob| 4.6.12 @ 1:51AM
"And how is Obama linked to the NYT?"
Perhaps at the hip, or the skull.

"It is now apparent that Team Obama views not just the Supreme Court, but the Constitution itself as an obstacle."
Fortunately, a majority of the electorate now views Team Obama as an obstacle to continuing freedom and prosperity. And Team Obama knows it too, which is why it's going into full-panic mode.

NOW apparent? You just came to this conclusion?

Correction: remarks Ed Meese made.
Marvin E. Fox | 4.5.12 @ 8:49PM
Ed Meese is correct in what he said. I would like to extend his remarks with my own observation. Our Constitution is the principles of the epublicans and their republicanism that were hammered out among our founding heroes and ratified by the States as our national law. Our Constitution has one more facet I "never" hear about; it is the definition of our Republic, all other definitions are wrong or imcomplete. Read Article 4 Section 4 of our Constitution. "The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union, a Republican Form of Government,..."
Bob| 4.6.12 @ 1:48AM
It is not "now apparent", it's been apparent for a long time. It's not just Obama, it's the entire Democrat Party. Serious questions should have been asked when Pelosi demanded, "Are you serious?"
It's just incredible that more people aren't aware of the obvious and will continue to vote for this nightmare. They will happily trade liberty for security and end up with neither. Fat lot of good that Department of Education has done to educate the citizenry.
