The long national drama about where Peyton Manning is going to play football next season is about to be replaced by a similar obsession involving Tim Tebow: Manning is going to sign with the Denver Broncos, who in turn are going to try to trade Tebow. A few quick thoughts.

  • As well as Tebow played last season in an offense designed around his unconventional quarterback skill set, a healthy Manning obviously improves any team he is on.
  • Manning will face off against family rival Tom Brady in New England.
  • The Broncos have a tough schedule.
  • Alex Smith, now pursued by both the 49ers and the Dolphins, is suddenly sitting pretty.

As the NFL turns. I’ve said before that I’ve appreciated my home team’s rivalry with Manning over the years.

If the Broncos can't win that weak division every year Manning is there then they must not be trying.

Guess the Chargers won't have a regular season 'bye' any longer and will have to earn their playoff appearance.

The big new here is that someone beat Aaron in posting a sports story.

You know, I actually refreshed three times expecting a post from him on this subject.

But, is he healthy???????? PS: I think that if the Broncs gamble on Manning and discard Tim T., that could end up being the worst decision even made [even beyond Ditka's trading away all of the Saints' draft choices for Rickey Williams] within the NFL!!!!!!

In a related story, Tim Tebow becomes new prayer head coach at Regent University.

Another slap in the face for Tim Tebow. What was Tebow's record as starter, 7-3 followed by a first-round playoff victory? How does a young quarterback get traded after posting numbers like that? Tebow won 70% of his games - Manning over the course of his career won 67% of his games... and that includes some Super Bowl years. Face it, going with an older QB, possibly unhealthy, with a worse win/loss record, is all about Tebowing, not quaterbacking. Elway doesn't like Tebow and his praying, case closed.

Nice. Just a few short months ago, Elway was singing the praises of Tebow. Now, Tebow is out in favor of an injured and aging Manning. Other players on the Denver roster will not let this one go by unnoticed. They have got to be thinking; When will I be next? Elway blew this one big time. No titles for Denver under Manning.

Brady isn't a rival until he wins a Super Bowl without cheating. Hasn't happened yet, so 1-0 Peyton.

One other quick thought: Why would Denver bet its fortunes on a quarterback who might become permanently disabled the first time he's sacked? Rather odd strategic thinking, methinks.

Red Phillips | 3.19.12 @ 5:21PM

Tim Tebow to Jacksonville = butts in seats. This might be good for the NFL.

The Manning brothers are the face of the NFL. They are the last vestiges of a by gone era in the NFL in which All American guys dominated the rosters and the thugs took a back seat.

Today, it's been turned upside down. The thugs run the show. The thugs control the locker room dynamics. The thugs are coddled to by the NFL owners. It's disgusting.

The NFL needs Peyton as the face of the NFL, but not necessarily as a quarterback. He's one whiplash hit away from a serious injury.

He needs to think about his NFL career beyond the gridiron.
