Tim Carney
speaks the truth:
Defending a corporate welfare agency. Attacking the critics of
intrusive federal anti-terrorism measures. Giving a President the
benefit of the doubt regarding the jailing of journalists critical
of U.S. foreign policy. Ignoring multiple, deadly, ongoing,
unauthorized wars. Celebrating military victory over a weak country
as if creates moral legitimacy. Keeping Guantanamo Bay open.
What has happened to the American Left?
Barack Obama happened, that’s what.
During the Bush Era, I watched, disgusted, along with many of my
conservative friends, as large chunks of our “movement” tossed
their principles out the window in support of “Our President.” No
Child Left Behind. Medicare Part D. The Iraq War. Overspending.
Pork-barrell spending. Saving Arlen Specter. I found all of these
things un-conservative, but many journalists, publications, and
institutions on the Right signed on with them, in many cases
largely out of loyalty or deference to a mostly conservative GOP
President.
I think the same thing is happening to the Left today.
Yes.

A good reminder that in the political arena, loyalty should be to principles, not politicians.

That does bring up a question I haven't had any lefty answer. Are you in support of Obama just because he's cramming his boot on republicans? AND since you support Obama's bypassing the constitution and making inconstitutional laws by dictat will you welcome the same presidential power when a republican is president?
RJ| 3.19.12 @ 2:24PM
We think alike, Stan. I get the same blank faces when I ask them why would anyone expect voluntarily comply with recently enacted laws when Congress doesn't comply with the Constitution and even many of Congress' own laws.

Fine comments from RJ and Stan, to which I would add that an ethically- and morally-challenged electorate voted these vipers and scoundrels in. I would say we're in a downward spiral, feeding off of each other's corruption, that is, between the electorate and the elected.

It's good to hear the admission that the Iraq War was such a bad idea, liberal or conservative, creeping into the rightwing blogosphere.

Barry O could strangle a newborn in the Rose Garden and eat the remains raw; and the Left and the MSM would cheer at how stylish and poised he was while doing it
