Santorum Wins Alabama

With just under 50% of the vote in, Fox News is calling Rick Santorum the winner of the Alabama Primary.

At the moment, Santorum is narrowly leading Newt Gingrich in Mississippi. If Newt passes Santorum then they cancel each other out making Mitt Romney tonight’s big winner by default.

But if Santorum prevails in Mississippi then it not only demonstrates his fortitude but it also demonstrates how much Republican voters really, really don’t want to back Romney.

One also must wonder if greater pressure will be brought to bear against Newt to drop out. Even if there is I suspect Newt isn’t budging.
