With just under 50% of the vote in, Fox News is calling Rick
Santorum the winner of the Alabama Primary.
At the moment, Santorum is narrowly leading Newt Gingrich in
Mississippi. If Newt passes Santorum then they cancel each other
out making Mitt Romney tonight’s big winner by default.
But if Santorum prevails in Mississippi then it not only
demonstrates his fortitude but it also demonstrates how much
Republican voters really, really don’t want to back Romney.
One also must wonder if greater pressure will be brought to bear
against Newt to drop out. Even if there is I suspect Newt isn’t
budging.

Exactly!
THE result of the evening is how desperate the rank and file are in their rejection of Romney, so desperate, that they'll even vote for Santorum if necessary.
COMBINE this result with the results of Virginia, where over forty percent voted against Romney in favour of Paul!

I hope Santorum will not overturn AL "Right-to-Work" law if he gets the GOP nod.

"That nigger lover President Clinton had the pen and vetoed so many good bills passed by the Gingrich-led Congress."

Romney STILL leads overwhelmingly in delegates, and even gathered them in the South tonight. Gingrich is in denial right now, speaking in hurried tones about how only he can save us over a barrell or two of oil. His is the biggest disappointment by far, as he has always posed as a son of the South. Kudos to Santorum, however, even though "the Massachusetts moderate" will prevail in Illinois, California, New Jersey, and New York, and gather delegates in the rest even if he falls short. He will have the amount needed by the Convention.

Romney and Paul are both back to their natural levels of support in Alabama and MIssissippi -- 30% and 5% respectively.

The biggest lie Gingrich has told tonight is that he will get two thirds of the delegates. Either that or no wonder he is a history major.
Mike 3/505| 3.13.12 @ 11:23PM
He didn't say that...He said between them, he and Santorum would get 2 thirds of the delegates tonight.
Windy City Commentary| 3.13.12 @ 11:12PM
It has been said that the proportional delegate system in place this year has caused this primary to drag on. However, if every state was winner take all, the delegate count as of now would be- Romney 479, Santorum 363, Newt 101, Paul 0. Romney doesn't have quite as many delegates as people think.
Mike 3/505| 3.13.12 @ 11:26PM
Neither does Santorum.
somnolence| 3.13.12 @ 11:23PM
No, but he will have over 1144 by convention time. The WSJ has a map out today in one of its columns with Romney states in the Western U.S. in blue. He is dominant there.

That is how delusional Gingrich is. He has to ride on Santorum's coattails. BTW keep on aggravating the Romney voters, and if shenanigans take place in Tampa be ready to be on your knees begging them to support a candidate who came in the back door. But I don't worry because it won't happen.
