Even after this utterly tortured explanation about how he stole another delegate for Mitt Romney, Michigan GOP chairman Saul Anuzis still hasn’t explained why those first two at-large seats are awarded winner-take-all rather than proportionally. There is ZERO explanation. He just says that’s the way it is.

The guy who wrote the rules, Mike Cox, the former AG for Michigan, supports Romney for president, but he says this is not how it is supposed to work. He says the two delegates are supposed to be awarded proportionally, just like the 12 non-voting delegates. In short, this ROmney supporter says the rules support Santorum’s position. And so did every other explanation from the state party up until two nights ago — as even Anuzis admits, before meekly explaining that the earlier explanations were in error.

What a joke. This is a scandal. It is flagrantly dishonest. It’s not about the one delegate so much as it is about the rule of law — or in this case, the rule of (party) rules.

This is not about me favoring Santorum over Romney. It is about not changing the rules ex post facto. I have a long history of objecting when any rules are changed either ex post facto or even midstream.

There is nothing wrong with playing tough within the rules. There is everything wrong with using strong-arm tactics to run roughshod over the rules. That is what Anuzis has done. Shame on him. THis should be treated by the establishment media as a major scandal, even if it is only about a single delegate.

When Quin makes these comments he sounds like he wants to be believed as a naive waif in the woods who is shocked that politics is a dirty business where you get your teeth kicked in each and every day.

So Romney got the delegates and the fix was in?

Okay. What's your point?

If Santorum can't take the heat of a few set backs, even when the scepter of unfairness is present, then what are his chances of winning in what promises to be one of the most corrupt and media influenced campaigns in history?

You're beginning to sound like Al Gore after Florida. Oh, it was so unfair and I lost? Quick! Round up the chap counters!

Oh, life is so unfair!

What Stalin never seems to realize is that desperation moves like this label Romney as a loser. And since Mitt IS a loser, it's worse than dishonest -- it's a blunder.

Romney bats .250 in the election league, and that's not good news for Republicans.

Please Mommy! Make the world a better place! There are liars and cheats and if I don't win I will spin it so the other person is a cheater.

mjs_pa| 3.2.12 @ 12:26PM

romney has no integrity, no honor and is "severely" petty.

BTW, ABC has an exclusive video of romney from 2002:

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/po.....d=10384409

It pretty much shatters the whole concept that romney isn't a D.C. insider, big spender, liar and cheap shot artist.

This has less to do with Romney, and more to do with entrenched Michigan GOP people, desperately trying to hold onto their power. Saul Anuzis has been GOP chairman in MI for a few years, now. He is simply trying to hold onto his seat and influence within the party. If he can manage to give Michigan to Romney, AND IF Romney goes on to win the nomination, Anuzis is sitting pretty.

Years ago, I went through an experience of this type of attempt at holding onto power, when I was a MI delegate. I had been elected delegate in my district, during a presidential election year. However, others in my area wanted to go to the conventions, and were far better connected than was I. When it came to choosing delegates to attend the conventions, party members who were NOT delegates were chosen to attend, rather than me.

The Michigan GOP simply "works it out" that they get what they want. So far, I have accepted that this is politics. But, this year's machinations with Anuzis stinks real bad.

Damn, I thought you were referring to Saul Alensky at first, and I thought that must be a new low point of apparent partanship maybe of equating same with Romney in support of Santorum!!!!!!!!

It is becoming apparent that not only do we conservatives have a deficit in strength when it comes to defeating the Liberal Hoard...

We also have a deficit in strength to have any affect on steering our own party and keeping it between the lines of our own rules...

Rules and Laws have no power without a means to enforce them and a collective will to define them rightly.

American society has neither, we know. Apparently, the Republican party does not either.

I guess that is why we have deteriorated into nothing more than one large mob with individual groups running amuck and projecting power at will without any meaningful rules, laws, or traditions to sustain any recognizable structure.

This is how civilizations fail and drift into entropy, and we are there.

I guess Romney is getting ready to take on Obama - bringing the gun to a gun fight so to speak (if Obama can cheat, then better get ready).

Red Phillips | 3.2.12 @ 2:37PM

Ron Paul supporters knew Saul Anuzis was a scoundrel long ago. This is the same clown who wanted Ron Paul banned from Republican debates in 2008.

Clint| 3.2.12 @ 3:39PM

" Isn't it obvious why Saul Anuzis (Michigan GOP chair) wants Ron Paul barred from the debates? It's not about ideological purity. Anuzis is a McCain guy, and having Paul in the debates is a big advantage for Giuliani. All the candidates disagree strongly with Ron Paul about 9/11, but Giuliani (for obvious reasons) can get much more mileage from fighting him on the issue than anyone else. It's to McCain's advantage to have him barred."

Anuzis is a behind-the-scenes, string-pulling MI Establishment Machine political hack, so calling him a "liar" is sort of a superfluity. People like him are directly to blame for two terms of Blanchard and two terms of Jenny G. the Canadian Socialist.

SCPOret| 3.2.12 @ 4:18PM

Anuzis is no different than Obama paying off his friends through Crony Capitalism.

If this is a small example of how a Romney Administration will conduct itself, Cuba might be a viable option should the Mittster win in November.

Joe | 5.14.12 @ 12:52PM

This is a silly article. It's the bitter losers vs the victors. It's the natural cycle of things.
