With Rick Santorum already on the defensive over earmarks and
votes to fund Planned Parenthood from Mitt Romney, he brought up
Romneycare. But Romney reminded Santorum that he had supported him
in 2008. Then Romney went for the jugular by bringing up Santorum's
support of Arlen Specter over Pat Toomey in 2004. Santorum argued
that Specter was needed to appoint conservative justices like John
Roberts and Sam Alito to the Supreme Court. Unfortunately, Santorum
responded in a very round about manner and the damage was done. It
doesn't look like Santorum can't withstand Romney's assault anymore
than Newt.
and Romney supported Toomey? Give me a break. This juvenile
approach of his to attack an opponent for something he supported,
or would have, is unbecoming of a prospective President.
Right, Santorum may not have had his best night tonight, but
that didn't mean Romney did much better. Romney only did well on
his Iran answer; the rest of the time he was his own uninteresting

really reached alot of voters who don't necessarily listen to those
issues, like we do.

weak right from the start and he never dug himself out.
I saw only one instance of Romney being interesting. Newt and

things usually; it's just he doesn't say them in a thoughtful way.

Romney, Newt and Paul have been the most effective and most
statesmanlike.
Romney was back in control.
Newt has gone back to the Newt of the first debates , calmer and
less combative.
I generally disagree with Ron Paul on foreign affairs, but, he
comes off as a decent and likable guy.
Santorum is off the rails with his over caffeinated and
torturous
explanations of his liberal votes and positions.
He was clearly the loser tonight.
Santorum was only the loser if you expected him to squash all
the other candidates. If not, then he did okay, especially in
putting the blame for Obamacare on Romneycare.

Bob Grant| 2.22.12 @ 10:23PM
Romney might have won that round but Santorum got off the best
line when he minimized Romney's record of balancing the budget as
governor by stating that, by law, it was required. The zinger came
when he pointed out that Dukakis balanced the budget for 10
straight years, then asked the question: "Do you think THAT
qualifies him to be president of the United States, I DON'T THINK
SO!".
I think Santorum performed well enough to retain his lead. The
pundits, however, are trying their best to claim Romney won the
debate.
Drek| 2.22.12 @ 10:34PM
Yes, that was a good line.
But it was delivered after he had been getting hurt.
I think that Santorum wishes he had another debate available to
rectify damage he inflicted upon himself tonight.
I think by any fair standard Santorum hurt himself tonight.
I know that THE OTHER MCCAIN and his following won't concur on
that, but there were cards left on the table for Santorum
tonight.
On answer after answer he seemed to be struggling for the proper
sentence to describe his thoughts. Not an articulate night for
him.

playoffs, with the pressure on, -------- the word is choke.

Simon Templar| 2.22.12 @ 10:25PM
A few things were made clear tonight.
Paul has not been vetted and has been largely ignored by
everyone.
Little is actually known of Paul's voting record, associations,
and past positions. Sorry, I do not but the bullshit that he is
some kind of saint.
Paul is a libertarian and has very little in common with
Republicans or conservativism except domestic fiscal spending.
Paul is running against the conservatives and the GOP. He should
start his own party.
Romney is definitely not what he is portraying. He will do
anything, say anything, and lie with a smile and a straight face to
get elected.
Santorum needs to sit down, get focused, and think about just
what is going to be launched at him and have a more effective
response. The attacks were obvious and anyone with half a brain
could see them coming a mile away down the tracks. He is very smart
and can do this if he prepares.
Gingrich did extraodinarily well but will not get the credit for
doing so or be rewarded for staying out of the infighting, slams,
smears, and negativity. People say they want positive and statesmen
like candidates and no cheap shots, but they actually do not.
Conservatives need to stop being pulled around by the nose and
acting like pavlovian dogs. The proper stimulus and conservative
rhetoric is thrown out and they react on cue.
Simon Templar| 2.22.12 @ 10:28PM

Drek| 2.22.12 @ 10:37PM
Santorum was a lot shaky tonight.
I'm in a state of shock that the guy hasn't practiced honing his
answers.
Only one question was out of the blue, and that was the question
to describe yourself in a single word. But every other question has
been addressed before, and should have been on the short list for
subjects to likely to come up tonight.
Santorum went in unprepared for tonight.
Simon Templar| 2.22.12 @ 10:47PM
You are correct, Mr. Grant. He needs to polish and practice and
get his thoughts in order and bring clarity to them. Overall, he
did well. He was being attacked without mercy from literally both
sides. This is very difficult for anyone to handle. He should be
given credit for keeping his cool. Paul acted like an idiot and sat
there with that crazy uncle look rolling his eyes like an immature
teenager all through the debate. He was talking so fast and
disjointed at times it was hard to understand him. The more I
observe him the more I come to believe this guy is not running on
all 4 cylinders. He is nothing like his son.
Bob Grant| 2.22.12 @ 10:59PM
The one thing Santorum's consistent on is his temperament.
Generally even keel.
Romney can be a little testy. For instance, the last question of
the evening was to correct any mis-conceptions voters may have
about themselves as candidates. Romney decided to bypass that and
give a 30 second spiel about why he would make a great president.
When moderator King jumped in to remind him of the original
question, Romney's response was a little testy. This approach only
works for Gingrich. It's off-putting when others try it (see Sarah
Palin for exhibit A).
His responses sometimes make me question his temperament, unlike
Santorum's.
Clint| 2.22.12 @ 10:33PM
Tell It To Ronald Reagan, Israel Firster Smear Bund Boy.
Ronald Reagan,
" If you analyze it I believe the very heart and soul of
conservatism is libertarianism. I think conservatism is really a
misnomer just as liberalism is a misnomer for the liberals–if we
were back in the days of the Revolution, so-called conservatives
today would be the Liberals and the liberals would be the Tories.
The basis of conservatism is a desire for less government
interference or less centralized authority or more individual
freedom and this is a pretty general description also of what
libertarianism is.
Now, I can’t say that I will agree with all the things that the
present group who call themselves Libertarians in the sense of a
party say, because I think that like in any political movement
there are shades, and there are libertarians who are almost over at
the point of wanting no government at all or anarchy. I believe
there are legitimate government functions. There is a legitimate
need in an orderly society for some government to maintain freedom
or we will have tyranny by individuals. The strongest man on the
block will run the neighborhood. We have government to insure that
we don’t each one of us have to carry a club to defend ourselves.
But again, I stand on my statement that I think that libertarianism
and conservatism are traveling the same path."

" Dr. Ron Paul served in the United States Air Force as a flight surgeon for several years (1963-1965). While in the air force, Paul reached the rank of Captain. Directly after his service in the air force, Paul worked again as a flight surgeon for the United States Air National Guard (1965-1968).
" Paul served as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force in the 1960s, spending time on the ground in countries like Ethiopia, Iran, Pakistan, South Korea, and Turkey. He also sits on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs."

" So why are Israelis talking about a potential attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities? Because that’s a good way – indeed, the only way Israel has — to pressure Western countries to work harder on the issue, to increase sanction and diplomatic efforts. If one believes that somehow pushing Tehran into slowing down or stopping its nuclear weapons drive is the only alternative to war, that greatly concentrates policymakers’ minds. Personally, I don’t participate — consciously or as an instrument — in disinformation campaigns, even if they are for a good cause."

Whether Dr. Ron is incontinent or not is beside the point. Men of his advanced years are often so afflicted. The real question is when he will withdraw from his hopeless quest and instruct his merry band to support the Mittster?
WL| 2.22.12 @ 11:53PM
Look Marco...I don't care for Ron Paul...but as to whether he is "incontinent" or not...I wouldn't sincerely say something bad about a man's appearance. That part was for Clint. So please forgive the remark.

Jake| 2.22.12 @ 9:57PM
Romney, Newt and Paul have been the most effective and most statesmanlike.
Romney was back in control.
Newt has gone back to the Newt of the first debates , calmer and less combative.
I generally disagree with Ron Paul on foreign affairs, but, he comes off as a decent and likable guy.
Santorum is off the rails with his over caffeinated and torturous
explanations of his liberal votes and positions.
He was clearly the loser tonight.
Vern Crisler| 2.22.12 @ 10:18PM
Santorum was only the loser if you expected him to squash all the other candidates. If not, then he did okay, especially in putting the blame for Obamacare on Romneycare.
WL| 2.22.12 @ 10:44PM
Sorry Jake...that comment of yours is bagged and tagged Liberal media crap.
I am not blasting you, but you really should watch a little more current events, it's evident with your comments...
Folks like you are destroying the country...
Liberals are Liberals...but trying to drag you folks along to save the place is taking all of our energy.
Bob Grant| 2.22.12 @ 10:23PM
Romney might have won that round but Santorum got off the best line when he minimized Romney's record of balancing the budget as governor by stating that, by law, it was required. The zinger came when he pointed out that Dukakis balanced the budget for 10 straight years, then asked the question: "Do you think THAT qualifies him to be president of the United States, I DON'T THINK SO!".
I think Santorum performed well enough to retain his lead. The pundits, however, are trying their best to claim Romney won the debate.
Drek| 2.22.12 @ 10:34PM
Yes, that was a good line.
But it was delivered after he had been getting hurt.
I think that Santorum wishes he had another debate available to rectify damage he inflicted upon himself tonight.
I think by any fair standard Santorum hurt himself tonight.
I know that THE OTHER MCCAIN and his following won't concur on that, but there were cards left on the table for Santorum tonight.
On answer after answer he seemed to be struggling for the proper sentence to describe his thoughts. Not an articulate night for him.
Tonight, he imitated the Phillies lineup at the plate, in the playoffs, with the pressure on, -------- the word is choke.
WL| 2.22.12 @ 10:48PM
I disagree Drek... I actually thought he did OK...
I am still hoping for the Newtster along with the rest of you guys...
But I think the "scold" might be our only hope at this point...
I am seeing some things from Santorum that I like...
Paglia guy| 2.22.12 @ 10:41PM
I wouldn't call CNN talkers "pundits." They're either deer-eyed idiots like A-Cooper or Democrat shills like Brazile and Rodham-Gergen. John King is the class of the bunch.
WL| 2.22.12 @ 10:50PM
You might as well put ol' Ari Flischer (however it's spelled) in that bunch...
He's just as much of a slobbering HACK as Brazille...maybe not for the Liberal hoard...but a hack indeed!!
Bob Grant| 2.22.12 @ 11:09PM
Agreed. Fleischer hackness shines through.
The tired old playbook of hiring ex-administration officials (from both parties) as above-the-fray analysts with no vested interest is so disingenuous I can no longer watch. Sitting through one of those post game shows is a complete waste of time.
Simon Templar| 2.22.12 @ 10:25PM
A few things were made clear tonight.
Paul has not been vetted and has been largely ignored by everyone.
Little is actually known of Paul's voting record, associations, and past positions. Sorry, I do not but the bullshit that he is some kind of saint.
Paul is a libertarian and has very little in common with Republicans or conservativism except domestic fiscal spending.
Paul is running against the conservatives and the GOP. He should start his own party.
Romney is definitely not what he is portraying. He will do anything, say anything, and lie with a smile and a straight face to get elected.
Santorum needs to sit down, get focused, and think about just what is going to be launched at him and have a more effective response. The attacks were obvious and anyone with half a brain could see them coming a mile away down the tracks. He is very smart and can do this if he prepares.
Gingrich did extraodinarily well but will not get the credit for doing so or be rewarded for staying out of the infighting, slams, smears, and negativity. People say they want positive and statesmen like candidates and no cheap shots, but they actually do not.
Conservatives need to stop being pulled around by the nose and acting like pavlovian dogs. The proper stimulus and conservative rhetoric is thrown out and they react on cue.
Simon Templar| 2.22.12 @ 10:28PM
Clint will now proceed in having a fit, calling me names like a child and if I am lucky throwing some qoutes out from various sources such as Buckley and Reagan.
Clint| 2.22.12 @ 10:42PM
Dr.Ron Paul's Foreign Policy Advisor, Michael Scheuer, Former CIA Chief of The bin Laden Unit,
" What Should The President Do Next On Iran,
4.) Speak to the American people and tell them to expect to be brutally propagandized by U.S. citizen Israel-Firsters through AIPAC, their ubiquitous media shills, and the men and women they own in the U.S. Congress and federal bureaucracy. Urge Americans to ignore this effort by U.S. Israel-Firsters to get them to send their soldier-children to fight in a religious war in which the U.S. has no genuine national interest at stake, and in which U.S. participation would further bankrupt the country, require the reintroduction of conscription, and put America at war with all of the Muslim world -- Shia and Sunni -- for the foreseeable future."

But I just wanted to give a little kudos to you guys because your analysis is very controlled, sensible, and sharp.
I do disagree with your comments on Santorum though...but maybe that is because I always tend to empathize with the guys with guts who are standing firm in a barrage of mob attacks...right now he is...and that kinda stuff is what leaders are made of in my book...I am just seeing some good things from him...and think he has a chance to do this thing.

Parts of Santorum's foreign policy answers were a little shaky. That's not to say I question his convictions, I don't. He seemed to have some Rick Perry moments getting his answers out.
Drek| 2.22.12 @ 10:37PM
Santorum was a lot shaky tonight.
I'm in a state of shock that the guy hasn't practiced honing his answers.
Only one question was out of the blue, and that was the question to describe yourself in a single word. But every other question has been addressed before, and should have been on the short list for subjects to likely to come up tonight.
Santorum went in unprepared for tonight.
Simon Templar| 2.22.12 @ 10:47PM
You are correct, Mr. Grant. He needs to polish and practice and get his thoughts in order and bring clarity to them. Overall, he did well. He was being attacked without mercy from literally both sides. This is very difficult for anyone to handle. He should be given credit for keeping his cool. Paul acted like an idiot and sat there with that crazy uncle look rolling his eyes like an immature teenager all through the debate. He was talking so fast and disjointed at times it was hard to understand him. The more I observe him the more I come to believe this guy is not running on all 4 cylinders. He is nothing like his son.
Bob Grant| 2.22.12 @ 10:59PM
The one thing Santorum's consistent on is his temperament. Generally even keel.
Romney can be a little testy. For instance, the last question of the evening was to correct any mis-conceptions voters may have about themselves as candidates. Romney decided to bypass that and give a 30 second spiel about why he would make a great president. When moderator King jumped in to remind him of the original question, Romney's response was a little testy. This approach only works for Gingrich. It's off-putting when others try it (see Sarah Palin for exhibit A).
His responses sometimes make me question his temperament, unlike Santorum's.
Clint| 2.22.12 @ 10:33PM
Tell It To Ronald Reagan, Israel Firster Smear Bund Boy.
Ronald Reagan,
" If you analyze it I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism. I think conservatism is really a misnomer just as liberalism is a misnomer for the liberals–if we were back in the days of the Revolution, so-called conservatives today would be the Liberals and the liberals would be the Tories. The basis of conservatism is a desire for less government interference or less centralized authority or more individual freedom and this is a pretty general description also of what libertarianism is.
Now, I can’t say that I will agree with all the things that the present group who call themselves Libertarians in the sense of a party say, because I think that like in any political movement there are shades, and there are libertarians who are almost over at the point of wanting no government at all or anarchy. I believe there are legitimate government functions. There is a legitimate need in an orderly society for some government to maintain freedom or we will have tyranny by individuals. The strongest man on the block will run the neighborhood. We have government to insure that we don’t each one of us have to carry a club to defend ourselves. But again, I stand on my statement that I think that libertarianism and conservatism are traveling the same path."
