Legendary boxing corner man Angelo Dundee passed away this
evening at the age of 90. As of this writing, his cause of death is
unknown.
It could be said that no corner man could hold a glove to Dundee
who is best known for his association with Muhammad Ali and Sugar
Ray Leonard. Dundee was also in the corner of other heavyweight
boxing champions like George Foreman and Jimmy Ellis. He also
trained actor Russell Crowe in preparation for his portrayal of
James J. Braddock in the 2005 film Cinderella
Man.
Here is Dundee paying tribute to Joe
Frazier after he passed away last November.

No offense intended Aaron, but are you the resident grim reaper here?
Occam's Tool| 2.2.12 @ 1:24PM
He is the resident obituary writer, yes, especially with sports.
It is important to remember that with Conservatives, politics and government is to be minimized so as to allow men to enjoy life in a free society; it is Liberals (as typified by Obama) who believe that government should reach its tentacles into all aspects of men's lives. Therefore, an interest in sport, music, literature, film, and theater is perfectly appropriate here.
Dundee was a fantastic artist at his trade.

I recall from my reading of Mencken that writing obits was a task assigned to newer junior reporters. I hope that is no longer the case.
Paul Windels| 2.2.12 @ 4:21PM
Except when Mencken himself wrote them -- are you familiar with the wonderful one he wrote on William Jennings Bryan?
JimH| 2.3.12 @ 7:56AM
Yes. I guess there are always exceptions.

"... Angelo Dundee passed away this evening at the age of 90. As of this writing, his cause of death is unknown."
Once again, I'm going to go way, way, way out on a limb and conjecture that it was old age.

I believe it was Dundee who was doing color commentary for a fight. The announcer was saying that one fighter was hurting the other, and Dundee said that was complete nonsense. The way you tell if a punch has hurt the opposing fighter, he explained, is if the opposing fighter's knees flinch as he is hit.
He was great at his craft. RIP.
