I’m with
Jonah Goldberg and
John Tabin on the disgusting spectacle of Newt Gingrich
debasing himself with an
utterly mendacious attack on Mitt Romney, aimed at scaring
Florida’s Jewish population with references to the Holocaust.
Here’s a challenge to Jeff Lord: I DARE you to defend this. Go
ahead. Try. If you have any decency, sir, you will denounce this
latest Newtoid attack with every breath in your lungs.
Rick Santorum is right to denounce these and other examples of
gutter politics.
Then again, what else can we expect from Gingrich? This is the
same guy who blamed the Left when a mentally ill mother named Susan
Smith drowned her two little boys in her car on purpose. He’ll do
anything, anything at all, no matter how low, to try to gain
political advantage.

"He'll do anything, anything at all, no matter how low, to try to gain political advantage."
Gadzooks! Why that would make him..... A POLITICIAN!
C'mon Quin; grow a pair - all's fair in war and politics.
Vern Crisler | 1.31.12 @ 9:24PM
Let's see, he'll do anything, anything at all, no matter how low, to try to gain political advantage. Hmmm, were you talking about Newt or Romney?
Vern Crisler | 1.31.12 @ 9:36PM
BTW, I'm not defending Newt's tactics. It sounds like he's hired some of the snakes over at the Romney campaign to come up with attack ads against Romney.
Anthony M| 1.31.12 @ 6:21PM
Once you've read Tyrell's article "Our Bill Clinton", you see that Newt is done.
Vern Crisler | 1.31.12 @ 9:25PM
Or maybe RET is done as a trusted source of conservative opinion. It's hard to imagine the author of *Public Nuisances* writing that way about Newt.
Dan Phillips| 1.31.12 @ 6:23PM
Now the “conservative” Gingrich is for Medicaid (welfare) and Romney is to be faulted for trying to hold the line on the budget? The obviously misleading scare tactics are only part of the problem here.
So Quin, which candidate is against ALL federal welfare on the basis that it's unconstitutional? Hmmm... seems to me that serious conservatives ought to vote for that guy.

Yet Santorum is the truest conservative in the race, especially since RonPaul ignores that part of Article I, Section 8 dealing with Conressional war powers. You know, the one allowing defense of American interests by a variety of means.
Aleck| 1.31.12 @ 7:29PM
You mean the provision that says that *Congress* shall have power "To declare War, grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water". The fact is, of all the candidates ONLY Ron Paul advocates and defends that provision, and has consistently done so all along.

Dai, you're pathetic. Newt defends a Medicaid (welfare) expenditure. Ron Paul believes Medicaid is unconstitutional. Does Santorum? Fretting about the Venezuelan menace does not a conservative make. It makes Santorum a fearful little girl. Do you fear Venezuela too Dai?

Dixie Pixie| 1.31.12 @ 6:44PM
Gentlemen....You need to chill out.
Of course a politicians policy decisions and actions are an indication of future decisions and actions.
Therefore a politicians past policies are”In-bounds” for electoral debate.
Mittens Romney tried to stop in-institution food preparation in favor of out-sourced prepackaged catering services.
The issue was then a deliberate decline in the quality of nursing home food to save the state money.
The fact it was Kosher Food, inherently brings up memories of a recent period in Jewish history where a Socialist Party did the same cost cutting with horrific results.
This issue should not obscure that Newt Gingrich did bring up a valid point in that if Mittens Romney deliberately put the “Interests” of the “State” over the “Interests” of the “People” then this is a point that should be a matter of some concern.
Bumr50| 1.31.12 @ 6:46PM
I will do everything in my power if Mitt Romney is the GOP nominee to utterly obliterate the party after I've cast my vote for Mittens the Inevitable.
Go ahead and laugh if you don't think there will be a third party to tear the GOP to shreds beginning next year.
I'm far from being the only one that's this angry.
Dixie Pixie| 1.31.12 @ 7:04PM
Bumr50....You may have the greater part of America with you.
I am convinced the McGovern Electoral Reforms were designed to disenfranchise the majority of the voters in favor of minority Socialist Rule.
The entire Primary Process has become a FARCE designed to rubber-stamp a preselected candidate decided by the Political Ruling Class.
Therefore the concept that America selects its Leadership has become null and void as it is the Political Ruling Class that selects its members not the voting public.
Obama and Romney are perfect examples of what the Political Ruling Class considers its members should be.
Public Anger is a historically certain result.
PS....What is a Bumr and why are there more than 50 of them?
Marco2| 1.31.12 @ 8:01PM
Hey genius, the McGovern rules were adopted by the Democrats, and have nothing to do with the Republicans nominating process. And their rules hardly made them statist/socialist. The last acceptable Democrat president, from a classical liberal point of view, Grover Cleveland.

Dude....you really need to sharpen your research skills.
See::::: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McGovern–Fraser_Commission
Last line::: “Purpose” paragraph::: clearly states that the States determine the election rules and the election rules apply equally to all political parties.
So when the McGovern reforms were implemented in the Democratic Party the Republican Party was transformed as well.
Point B....If Obama is not a Socialist, then what is he?
It has been obvious for some time that the Federal Government has been taken over by Socialists.
The evidence has been so plentiful and overwhelming that they no longer bother to cover it up.

So Quin, is this robocall based on facts? If so, stop complaining. And stop challenging Jeffrey Lord. I see you've got a little side gig with the piranhas at National Review. They don't seem to give a care about truth, as long as they can keep Newt down.
I'd love to see the NRO conservative monopoly demolished. I'd love to see their cruise be relegated to a John boat after the money for that fraud publication dries up. It won't be long. All they have left are guest hacks like Quin, Hewitt, Cherin, and a handful of overpaid bootlicking interns, just aching for the day that they get promoted to the NY Times, WaPo, New Republic, or the Atlantic.

Warrior | 1.31.12 @ 8:12PM
These tags are interchangeable and situational when dealing with "R"epublicans. After all Romney can state he is a conservative without one reporter taking two or three seconds to ask what his (must be a very broad) definition of the word is. If anyone states Ron Paul is conservative they are thoroughly castigated.
Vern Crisler | 1.31.12 @ 9:30PM
Well, Ron Paul hangs out with people who hate Sarah, Newt, Rush, Buckley, and Reagan, not to mention Lincoln and Washington. So in what sense is he conservative?
Warrior | 1.31.12 @ 10:36PM
Newt hangs out with Pelosi, Romney was hanging out with Ted Kennedy, Santorum supported Arlen Specter. So I'm not sure where the "hanging out" fits into the discussion. If we define conservatism as a person who holds traditional values. Ron Paul can arguably be defined as the most conservative candidate left. Also, I would leave Lincoln out of the argument, he did more than anyone mentioned in your reply to destroy the Constitution.
Vern Crisler | 1.31.12 @ 11:04PM
Lincoln preserved the Constitution by preserving the Union.
Dan Phillips| 1.31.12 @ 11:06PM
Vern, we call that rationalization. Lincoln detroyed the Old Republic by "saving" a form of Union that existed only in his mind.
Vern Crisler | 2.1.12 @ 12:58AM
Lincoln preserved the Old Republic. It was the South who wanted to do away with the all-men-are-created-equal philosophy of the Declaration.
Dan Phillips| 2.1.12 @ 7:57AM
The Old Republic was based on the Constitution, not the Declaration. Besides the Declaration was clearly not the egalitarianism over all document you imagine. If it was it would have banned slavery, enshrined women's suffrage, protected the Indians, etc. which it clearly didn't do. Jefferson was likely asserting the equality of English subjects in the colonies who had no representation in Parliament with English subjects in England who did. Don’t pull that Jaffaite crap on me. It isn’t historically credible.

In the relm of ET TU BRUTE or possibly DO AS I SAY, NOT AS I DO category perhaps:
'......RickSantorum’s claim that ‘no Palestinian’ lives in the West Bank By Glenn Kessler, Published: January 4 Updated: Thursday, January 5, 5:02 AMCharles Krupa/AP“All the people that live in the West Bank are Israelis. They are not Palestinians. There is no Palestinian. This is Israeli land.” — Former senator Rick Santorum, Nov. 21. 2011 .... The Facts In the conversation captured on tape, Santorum argues that the West Bank belongs to Israel because Arab nations launched an “aggressive attack” in 1967 but Israel defeated them and acquired the land as part of the spoils of war. “It was ground that was gained during war,” he said, similar to the United States gaining territory after defeating Mexico in the 19th century. “Should we give Texas back to Mexico?” he asked. “Bottom line, it is legitimately Israeli country.” Laying aside Santorum’s historical perspective, the striking thing about his comments is that they represent an even more conservative position than that taken by the Israeli government. Israel, which over international protests annexed land around Jerusalem, has not annexed the West Bank but instead has labeled it “disputed territory” subject to negotiations on the creation of a Palestinian state. As Israel’s Foreign Ministry puts it: “The West Bank can best be regarded as disputed territory over which there are competing claims that should be resolved in peace talks. The final status of this disputed territory should be determined through negotiations between the parties.” Moreover, because of a series of agreements between Israelis and Palestinians, Palestinians have now acquired self-government over tracts of West Bank territory. A map on the Foreign Ministry Web site shows the sections of the West Bank that are subject either to full Palestinian military and civilian control or just civilian Palestinian control. The statement above the map says: “The final status of Judea and Samaria — determining the borders between Israel and the Palestinian state, and those parts of Judea and Samaria which are to be correspondingly under Israeli and Palestinian jurisdiction — is yet to be resolved and is currently the subject of negotiations between the Government of Israel and the Palestinian Authority.” In other words, Israel makes no claim that the Arabs residing in the West Bank are Israelis and in fact has already given up some governmental control to Palestinian self-rule — with the implication that even more territory will eventually form a Palestinian state.Santorum, by labeling the Palestinians as “Israelis,” appears to be adopting a position similar to that favored by some Palestinians increasingly skeptical of a two-state solution — a one-state solution that would grant equal rights to Jews and Arabs. Under such a proposal, demographic changes might lead to a greater Arab population than a Jewish population in the single entity, which is why some Israeli politicians, such as opposition leader Tzipi Livni, have accepted the need for a separate Palestinian state.According to the CIA World Factbook, about 2.6 million people live in the West Bank, including nearly 300,000 Israeli settlers. (Another 200,000 Israelis live in East Jerusalem, which the Palestinians claim as the capital of a future state.) The CIA lists the population of the West Bank as “Palestinian Arab and other 83%, Jewish 17 %.” A Santorum spokesman did not respond to a request for comment. The Pinocchio Test....Santorum might argue that he is simply expressing an opinion here — and certainly we take no position on his statements about Israeli settlements. But he appears to be stating this as a fact — there are no “Palestinians” living in the West Bank and this is Israeli land. But that stance is flatly refuted by the Israeli government, which calls the land “disputed territory” and does not grant Israeli citizenship to the Palestinians living in the West Bank. In fact, the Israeli Foreign Ministry refers to areas of “Palestinian jurisdiction.” The Israeli position that the territories are “disputed” is not accepted by much of the world, but it seems that the very least a potential U.S. president could do is accept the definitions used by the Israeli government.Four Pinocchios....'
