WL| 1.25.12 @ 12:58PM
And I'm reading an article "screwing over conservatives".....
Here is the writing on the wall.
NEWT is our guy, and he fights. I don't care how far he goes off the reservation...or even if he might lose...
Our movement NEEDS A GOOD FIGHT...and when it is ready...we will win.
If that is too late to keep the Bamster from a second term then SO BE IT.
But you people will NOT bully us (at least many of us) into voting for your people simply because you sling your crap at ANYONE we like...if it isn't your pick.
So Shove it.
YAAIPOBL| 1.25.12 @ 2:21PM
So, to summarize, to you it doesn't matter what Newt fights for, just that he fights. And as long as you have a fighter, even if he's corrupt and inconsistent and prone to selling out his supporters, you'll win. And you'd rather have a fighter who tries to destroy the party from within, than someone less belligerent, even if it means giving Obama a second term. Because you consider it winning. Even though it is, in a factual sense, losing.
And above all, dammit, you refuse to let anyone try to sway your vote with things like facts and reasoning and a desire to win the election, because, dammit, you like the idea of having Newt in there fighting. Even if he's selling you out the process. Because to you, that's called winning, because it proves you couldn't be talked out of something by the so-called pundits no matter how stupid an idea it was.
WL| 1.25.12 @ 2:45PM
Nice Rebuttal, but you miss the most important assertion...
A Fighter IS the only way to win. Romney will lose. What part of "we have followed this "so-called pundit" nonsense for the LAST TIME" don't you understand...
See, the truth of the matter is this. All of the candidates that will fight are systematically removed from contention by our Establishment party structure. The only reason Newt is still here is because the power structure miscalculated and he hit them with quick 1-2 debate haymakers just before the SC primary...
Face it, genius, "stupid" ideas are the same crap thoughts that got us into this mess. ..i.e. Candidates like Romney..
I know Newt will sell us out on occasion..I know he is flawed..I know he is goofy sometimes...but you people know good and well that he will do some good things...as he has in the past.
But NO...you want to back a loser. A guy who tried to out-liberal Ted Kennedy.
I will not go along with the narrative anymore...and that is necessary for you people to understand if we are ever to get anywhere...
You will conform to us the "base." or you will lose. PERIOD.
We won't lose and be duped by your lackeys ANYMORE.
Conserdude| 1.25.12 @ 5:32PM
how much more evidence does one need to understand Newt is scoundrel, immature, and a failed leader? Romney is far from perfect, but he would be a better nominee and would defeat Bama.
Dai Alanye | 1.25.12 @ 2:53PM
This sort of attitude leads misguided conservatives to excitement over a RINO like Chris Christie. Tain't simply the fight in the candidate, which is merely a tactic, but the principles for which a candidate fights. After all, Obama fought for unicorns and rainbows last time around, overcoming a candidate whose VP had to carry most of the battle.
WL| 1.25.12 @ 3:09PM
Your comment is incoherent...
Because according to your last sentence..."VP had to carry most of the battle."...
What do you think she was doing to "carry most of the battle."
Answer: She wanted to fight and he DIDN'T.
So save it.
Dai Alanye | 1.25.12 @ 6:03PM
I can see why WL found my point difficult to comprehend, so I'll restate it, leaving off the confusing last phrase:
--This sort of attitude leads misguided conservatives to excitement over a RINO like Chris Christie. Tain't simply the fight in the candidate, which is merely a tactic, but the principles for which a candidate fights. After all, Obama fought for unicorns and rainbows last time around. (And by the way, I like Sarah Palin but not Angry John McC.)--
But my point remains -- picking some fool simply because he or she "fights" is an error, allowing emotion to overcome judgment.
WL| 1.25.12 @ 10:53PM
Oh how easy it is to forget the accomplishments of a House of Reps with Newt in charge....
If we get stuck with that, I can live with it...You can tak your dumb principles and shove them up you hole. WHY? because your guy has none. Balanced Budget for 3-4 years....yeah...Newt stands for nothing....Welfare Reform....etc WITH A DEMOCRAT PRESIDENT...
You are an idiot.
teflon93| 1.25.12 @ 1:09PM
Quin, Quin, Quin---what has Mitt Romney EVER done for conservatives? Has he ever NOT screwed conservatives over?
Attack Gingrich by all means, but you cannot keep doing so while only saying something negative around his GOP Establishment foe when we drag you kicking and screaming to it.
Alternately, why not try pumping up Santorum?
Anommynous| 1.25.12 @ 2:32PM
Quin HAS been pumping up Santorum.
WL| 1.25.12 @ 2:51PM
He has been trumping up Santorum a bit...
But notice when Mitt the Droid's programming starts to unravel...these folks IMMEDIATELY start circling the wagons and train ALL FIRE on the immediate danger to his candidacy.
Layers of conservative cover are broken the closer we get to that...(no matter who our candidate of choice is)....the first wave is always the David Brooks types...the second wave are the Ann Coulter types (as we have found out recently)...and I shudder to say it, and hope it doesn't mean what I think it means...but even Mr. Tyrell has unloaded on Newt today..
Mitt is in serious trouble...and the Repubs are trying to whip us Hobbits into line because they have lost control...
Conserdude| 1.25.12 @ 5:33PM
True enough about Romney, but Newt is far worse: he's HURT conservatives.
teflon93| 1.25.12 @ 7:32PM
Nothing Newt did hurt conservatives as badly as implementing socialized medicine (Gingrich successfully fought against the Clintons' attempt to do so) and gay marriage. The damage from those two Romney plays to cover his electoral @ss killed us.
kingsmill| 1.25.12 @ 1:17PM
I suspect Quin, along with Antle, are checking their waste paper baskets and developing a "strange new respect" for Mitch Daniels.
Simon Templar| 1.25.12 @ 2:36PM
You may be correct but I suspect he and the other beltway talkng heads would be claiming within 48 hours that Mitch was not a conservative, that he was a conservative, he was corrupt, he was not corrupt, he was presidential material, he was not...
God forbid the liberal media accuse him with false allegations of sexual misconduct as Mitch would find himself thrown overboard as well.
The truth seems to evade these talking heads and hacks.
Jake| 1.25.12 @ 1:53PM
Newt apparently likes to screw everybody .
Physically , politically and in his personal life Gingrich reminds me a lot of Bill Clinton.
Although Bill didn't marry Monica Lewinsky.
A late entrant at this point will just reaffirm the total chaos that has enveloped the Republican Party courtesy of the months long Palin tease , the Cain implosion and now the Newt mess.
Limbaugh and the Tea Party led the charge that Daniels was a bum and unacceptable to the base.
Because he advocated focusing on economic issues in 2012 rather than social issues.
Plus, his marital situation was said to be a non starter as was Giuliani's in 2008.
Which makes the absolution and whitewash of Newt's chronic adultery by the same marriage puritans quite a mystery.
ncatty| 1.25.12 @ 4:19PM
R.E. Tyrell's point exactly.
Chesterbelloc| 1.25.12 @ 2:08PM
Vlady Putin would love humiliating the cuckolded Daniels. Please stop wasting ink on Willard II.
Simon Templar| 1.25.12 @ 2:30PM
Little article all of you should read about these supposed ethic charges (84 of them) about Newt, all dismissed and originating with the Dems..by the way there was no fine either...
http://www.newsmax.com/Headlin...../id/425485
When will you stop believing the absolute bullshit that is smeared on our candidates by the media and the democrats?
Quin, try the truth once in a while....
WL| 1.25.12 @ 2:58PM
Thank you for the post. It's about time that we start questioning the veracity of all this "Newt is an embarrassment" stuff from OUR SIDE anyway.
I don't give a whit about Newt. What is burning my butt, is the way these people write and comment as if they give a rats butt about what we think...THEN when we vote outside of their directives...the show their true colors....
If after Obama, the best we can do is MITT ROMNEY...
and we get lambasted by our "leadership" and punditry for it and all of their fire is directed at somebody we voted for...
What does that tell you...
It tells me that the Democrats are duped by their masters...
And we are duped by ours...
NO MORE.
Dai Alanye | 1.25.12 @ 2:58PM
No fine, but Newt bought his way out none the less. "I plead No Contest, your honor, and here's $300,000 to cover the Court's expenses."
Simon Templar| 1.25.12 @ 5:28PM
Did you read the article? He was cleared of all charges after a long investigation. There was no fine or buy off. His lawyer made a stupid mistake during the proceedings that caused more unnecessary court cost that all agreed that Newt should cover some of it. Newt agreed as well and accepted this share of the court cost. The IRS investigated as well and found nothing.
If you or others do not like a candidate for whatever reason, fine, but let us stick to the facts and NEVER echo liberal smear and talking points.
Drek| 1.25.12 @ 2:45PM
I don't know about the rest of you guys, ------------------------ but I don't credit any endorsement from anybody up on the Hill. Especially anybody from the Senate.
R. Dittmar| 1.25.12 @ 2:51PM
NR's Newt bashing has really jumped the shark with this one. Let me see if I can get this straight. Newt's handling of a dispute with a handful of Congressmen over a committee's funding twenty years ago was somewhat ham-handed. Night of the long knives it ain't.
WL| 1.25.12 @ 3:05PM
They can't control Newt...and they know it....
Just remember how it was when the tea-party folks (ie US) were standing up against Boehners packs of lies DEAL with Obama...we were all hobbits...obstructionists....whining brats...know nothings...rubes...rednecks...etc etc etc...
After watching politics for all of my life I have only made one discovery...
The only time the Repubs and Dems fire at the same target (other than each other) is when WE try to excercise any choice other than the one they already made for us....
Newt is somewhat of a scoundrel...but he's OUR scoundrel...and not theirs...
I fully expect the Republican establishment to scuttle ANY efforts at winning this Presidency...before they let us pick...
Our job is to hold firm and make them understand (for as long as it takes)...If they want to win again...they have to do it on our terms...because they have had their chances...AND FAILED.

NEW MOVIE!!
"Death By A Thousand Paper Cuts"
starring - Quin Hillyer!!!
RJ| 1.25.12 @ 3:21PM
I read Senator Coburn's book many years ago and I remember the passage about Steve Largent and the other 10 Congressmen standing up to Newt. No candidate on the scene today can stir the passions like Newt. Unfortunately he is also erratic, which is why, as a limited government conservative, I am paying more attention to Rick Santorum.
Oldefarte| 1.25.12 @ 3:33PM
Ginguich has his faults but he's out in front of a camera now chastizing Obama, and that's good enough for me. He was initially the one who claims that the other Republican candidates should be concentrating on Obama and not backstabbing each other, and he was right [since same only gives the Democrats ammunition to use in the general election]. Remember that IT'S THE DEMOCRATS, STUPIDS!!!!!!!
WL| 1.25.12 @ 3:47PM
You and I rarely agree...but on this one we do..
Newt tried while Mitt Lied (in Iowa)...
But of course, when Newt takes a dump in Mitt's Grey Poupon...Mitt throws a fit.
Claypoole| 1.25.12 @ 4:33PM
Love the Grey Poupon bit.
David T| 1.25.12 @ 4:59PM
Quin--In the immortal words of John McEnroe: YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS
teflon93| 1.25.12 @ 7:33PM
Coburn hasn't exactly been a conservative favorite lately either.
But never mind all that, Quin---just tell us what Jennifer Rubin thinks. That's what matters.
