Ron Paul rocks. All the others are lapdogs of the most extreme elements in Israel. Ron Paul is for our military people. He wants them home with their families, not fighting in another losing war in the Middle East and us having 20 dollar a gal. gas in the middle of the worst depression in 80 years.
We should do with Iran what we did with the Soviet Union, China and Vietnam. send an ambassador, open diplomatic relations, trade with them, have tourist and educational relations with them, and welcome them back into the world community. 25000 Jews live well in Iran and they could leave at anytime. I went to school with many Iranians in the 1960's. They are fine cultured people, who haven't invaded any neighbor in 200 years.
Occam's Tool| 1.23.12 @ 11:42PM

Occam: Nothing wrong with profiling Midde East travelers, especially the Israeli's and their Mossad Terrorists and assassins. Israeli terrorism and false flag operations are a threat to world peace and against international law. It is a lot better idea then your tribesman Chertoff ex raying everybody at the airports and feeling up 90 year old grandmothers. Jay| 1.23.12 @ 10:07PM
Except for Ron Paul, all the other candidates, including Obama, are offering is the prospect of war with Iran. For the last 30 years, all Iran has heard from the U.S. and other nuclear powers is threats of war. Why wouldn’t Iran want a nuclear weapon to protect itself or level the playing field? Maybe talking might get us farther than saber rattling; it helped us avoid war with nuclear powers like the Soviet Union and China.
If Iran must be opposed militarily, let a nuclear power like Israel or a coalition of the Gulf states oppose Iran. Iran is oceans and continents away from the United States. Why is American blood and treasure required? We cannot afford it, and we have already lost thousands of young men and women in Iraq and Afghanistan.
A nation like Iran, that "cannot even provide gasoline" for its people is hardly poised to become an expansionist empire. Our war in Iraq gave Iran more influence in Iraq, and near sovereignty in southern Iraq. We continue to fight in Afghanistan and bomb Pakistan. By destabilizing Iran's neighbors, U.S. policy is enabling Iranian expansionism. The U.S. policy makers are facilitating the very ends they claim to oppose.
A re-evaluation of our policies in the Middle East, and toward Iran, is long overdue.

"Given Ron Paul's ongoing advocacy of the Iranian government's position, calling him "Tehran Ron" is quite apt."
>> It's this kind of comment that is disturbing and mark of a propagandist. He's not "advocating" Iranian policy. He's saying this is a natural reaction one would expect from a nation who has been on the receiving end of all the threats coming out of the US government.
Yes, our government has been the aggressor. Our government overthrew their government with the '53 coup to protect British oil interests. Our government supplied arms and funding to Hussein in Iraq's war with Iran. Our government has imposed crippling sanctions on their country. Our government has invaded and occupied their two neighboring countries to the east and west. Our government has warships parked off their coast. Our government has threatened a pre-emptive military strike on Iran. Our government is the only one that has actually used nukes. Our government has no credibility on nuclear negotiations after we talked the Libyans out of their program and then overthrew their government anyway. It has been suspected that either our CIA and/or the Israeli Mossad are responsible for the assassinations of Iranian civilian scientists.
How can you possibly rationalize that a) Iran is a threat to our national security, and b) we have not been the aggressors against Iran?
I'm sick and tired of hearing this war propaganda spewing nonsense and all you can come up with is "Tehran Ron"???

lol more Paultards with 9/11 conspiracy nonsense. I love it! Ron Paul supporters themselves demonstrate over and over again what irrational and delusional nuts and wackos they truly are.
Susan| 1.24.12 @ 3:11AM
I am so sick of the comments made againist Ron Paul for taking the bravest stance with regards to Iran. No one wants more nuclear bombs out there in other countries. Why is it that the US continues its close support of Isreal when they have refused for years to have the IAEA into their country to check Isreal's nuclear productivity. Who are we to tell Iran they are not allowed to have nuclear weapons? I do not support Iran but I do know that the people I have met from Iran do not want any trouble with the US. Iran has radicals and hate groups and so does the US. Ron Paul doesn't want another fake war where our sons and daughters die just because we can't mind our own business.
Sassan| 1.24.12 @ 7:33AM
The people you met from Iran do not want any "trouble" with the U.S. because we are pro-American and pro-west as a people. It is the maniacal regime occupying Iran that is the enemy of the Iranian people. This is a regime that as a practice rapes our young sisters before executing them so that they don't "die as virgins". This is a regime through their "hidden imam" ideology wants to bring an end to humanity and as a prerequisite must "reconquer" Jerusalem and wage a global war in which 2/3rd of humanity perishes through war, havoc, chaos and famine as accorded by the Hadith. This regime is the very enemy of the Iranian people and of humanity itself.
Ron Paul is truly the enemy of the Iranian people. Iranians will never forget that in 2009 a single congressperson voted against the resolution "expressing support for all Iranian citizens who embrace the values of freedom, human rights, civil liberties, and rule of law." And that single congressperson was Ron Paul. It is no surprise that Islamic Republic state sponsored terrorist television PressTV has been actively using Ron Paul's material for their own propaganda and anti-American purposes.
Le Cracquere| 1.24.12 @ 9:42AM
Congratulations, Sassan: a direct hit. When it comes to cheerleading the spilling of innocent blood and worse, no Republican pol holds a candle to Dried Apple That Walks Like a Man (his Indian name--true story).
Dan Phillips| 1.24.12 @ 11:16AM
So Sassan, the Iranian people aren't hurt by sanctions then? Innocent Iranians won't die if America starts a war in the name of democratizing Iran? If you were pro the Iranian people you would be anti-sanctions and pro-peace. An attack by America will brutalize your people assuming you are who you say you are. I have my doubts because your theological assertions are too talking pointy.
Ron Paul votes against all such resolutions because it is not the business of the US Congress to tell other countries what to do. They are meaningless attempts to grandstand that often do more harm than good.
Sassan| 1.24.12 @ 5:49PM
Of course the sanctions hurts the people too but it hurts the regime much more. We have already been suffering over the last 30+ years under this horrid and maniacal regime and the government already eats up the money and has brought the economy down as it is - so this is a sacrifice we have to make in order to get rid of this regime.
This regime will KILL EVERY LAST IRANIAN to keep power if they could. I was in Iran for over 8-months last year and one commons sentiment in Iran was that "Bush liberated the wrong country" as we are not Arabic, have become a truly secular people, and value western ideals of freedom, liberty, and democracy. Iranians are pro-American and pro-west. We have suffered the brutalities of this regime like no other.
I am PRO-IRANIAN, not Pro-Mullah. We consider these Mullahs to not even be Iranian at the end of the day as they care nothing about Iran or Iranian culture - they are twisted in a fanatical game of the most vile form of Islamic rule and law. In fact, the Mullahs with the black turban even "claim" to have Arab blood and be descended from Arabs from the time of Muhammad. Iran means NOTHING to them. Therefore, I am pro-Iranian and anti-Mullah and anti-Islamic Republic. You cannot be both pro-Iranian and pro-Mullah. You must either stand against this regime in supporting the Iranian people or being an appeaser to evil.
And I will repeat, Ron Paul is the ultimate moral coward.
"The pacifist is as surely a traitor to his country and to humanity as is the most brutal wrongdoer." - Theodore Roosevelt
Jason | 1.24.12 @ 8:27PM
Quoting TR just proves you're a progressive warmonger, not a conservative.
Sassan| 1.24.12 @ 10:19PM
When did I claim I was a conservative? I am a moderate Democrat - a moderate Democrat that has great respect and admiration for President Bush. In fact, if Newt wins the nomination, I will consider voting for him. Staying silent in the face of evil makes one complacent, particularly when U.S. national security interests are at stake.
MT| 1.24.12 @ 10:36PM
"Of course the sanctions hurts the people too but it hurts the regime much more. "
Wrong. Sanctions hurt the people much, much more and actually empower the regimes with which they are designed to punish. It also forces the people to rally around their governments out of necessity. Those sanctions against Cuba have done wonders over the years, right?
Iran is NOT worth a drop of US blood or penny of US money. Iranian internal affairs are a matter for the Iranian people and them alone. Our soldiers do not take an oath to put their lives on the line for removing dictatorships and oppressive regimes around the world... they take an oath to defend this country only. This Iranian policy is absurd and Paul is absolutely right on this... once again.
Sassan| 1.24.12 @ 11:57PM
Nonsense. The Iranian people will NEVER rally around the regime and in fact, blame the regime for the sanctions - not the west. You Ron Paul zombies are indoctrinated with your nonsense spouted by the moral defeatist and terrorist appeaser Ron Paul.
We need to get rid of this regime not only for the sake of the Iranian people, but for the sake of U.S. national security interests and the global security of the world and humanity itself. The key point to remember is that a free Iran will be a pro-American Iran and one that is friendly with the west as it was in the past before the Mullahs came to power.
MT| 1.25.12 @ 9:36AM
With all due respect, your entire comment is delusional and not grounded in reality.
How is that pro-American sentiment working out in Iraq and Afghanistan?? How about Pakistan, Libya, Egypt?? How did regime change work out in Iran in 1953? Do you really think Muslims are that dumb that they forget how much we support, subsidize, and arm tyranny in their countries?
You have no rational basis for your argument and yet look around at almost every other country in NE Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia that we have attempted to install friendly governments and then the actual reaction from the people.
I'm sick and tired of this delusional neo-Wilsonian policy of attempting to forcibly install secular, westernized democracy on countries who are primarily inhabited by people that know nothing of the sort and are overwhelmingly devout Muslims.
And I'm the indoctrinated zombie?
Please come back with some historical precedent or evidence to support your utopian claim. Until then, stop this dangerous rhetoric that is only going to get more young Americans killed and more of our wealth squandered.
Sassan| 1.25.12 @ 10:58AM
Iranians are FAKE Muslims and in fact, the vast majority do not follow any religion - and this is not only among the youth. In fact, based on my time in Iran and being Iranian, there are more atheists in Iran than in the U.S.
We are not Arab. Our culture is pre-Islamic and this includes all our holidays. If you've come to contact with any Iranians inside of the U.S. as have many Americans, you would see that Iranians are not really Muslim and in fact, less and less even self-identify as Muslims but of course they can't say this in the public under this regime as they would be executed as apostates.
Dan Phillips| 1.24.12 @ 11:22PM

The interventionists are trying to goad Iran into doing something stupid so they can get their war they so desperately want.
Ryan| 1.24.12 @ 9:15AM
It's like there can be no in-between with anyone.
1. The case against Iran is overstated at times. I don't think we'll ever really need to come into armed conflict with Iran, at least on a large scale. Economic and diplomatic sanctions, and supporting rebel elements within the country, and cyber-war efforts should do most of the work.
2. Iran funds terrorism. We know this - they supplied arms to shoot and blow up our troops in Iraq. They also fund and supply Hamas and Hezbollah. Such actions should stop.
3. Iran should not get a nuclear weapon. Allowing Nukes in the hands of anyone who funds terrorism is a mistake. Period. They have no qualms about firing rockets FROM civilian areas into civilian areas.
4. Israel may not be a saint. Can't there be an in-between stance that occasionally Israel may not treat Palestinians properly. However, the Palestinians make little case that they should be supported. If they stopped firing onto civilians and using terroristic methods, maybe there would be room for sympathy. There isn't. It's the same with much of the rest of the Muslim world.
If you engage civilians with military measures, then there is little good faith to negotiate.

If Israel has a problem, let them deal with it. If Israel needs money, let them borrow it from China like we do. Why are we borrowing money from communist countries and sending it overseas? We have enough problems here. Israel is a foreign country, not the 51st state. We don't need to be involved in their decisions about security, they're big boys and can handle it.
Even an armed Iran isn't a threat to us. Pakistan has nukes and they full of "terrorists" and "islamists" and oh look, we send them money... and bomb them too. Our policies over there are self defeating and retarded.
Keith Roddy| 1.24.12 @ 9:54PM
Thought provoking. Insightful. Trustworthy. Why do our own research when we can get the straight answers from Aaron Goldstein. What vested interest does Aaron have in trying to diminish the character of Ron Paul? What does Aaron find so threatening about Iran, when the CIA claims Iran as no threat as well as Benjamin Netanyahu proclaiming Israel doesn't need our help with Iran? When will people decide to do their own investigating into our foreign policies, monetary system and true reasons for our economic decline? That will be a good day. We will no longer have use for the Aaron Goldsteins of the world to feed us propaganda and perpetuate mental poverty.

Well, there are always three sides to a coin you know. Guess who is trading Iranian oil for gold now? Look it up. So now America and Europe put sanctions on Iran, who befriend our creditors and will begin to trade oil without using dollars. Iran gets gold, India/Russia/China get oil, Amerca gets devalued dollar, sells debt to China. Good job guys!
