Leaders Who Won’t Lead

Jennifer Rubin makes a solid case that so-called leaders of the conservative (and Tea Party) movements, including Sen. Jim DeMint, should have already weighed in on the presidential race, and that they certainly should do so now. Calling Marco Rubio! Calling Allen West! Stop protecting your own backsides, Rubin effectively says, and take a stand.

She’s right.

My guess is Rubio, West and DeMint feel like many of us, they don't like the field so they don't want to endorse which I think it smart. Focus on the Senate / House...unless any of them want to enter the big race.

Robbie| 1.23.12 @ 3:32PM

I completely agree. Why get your hands dirty with this group of goof balls.

The real shame of this process is so many of the top candidates chose not to run and left us with crummy choices.

Drek| 1.23.12 @ 4:26PM

I loved how they were trying to pressure Jeb to rush in and endorse Romney right after he got his doors blown off. Now we all know, and have known well that Barbara and the rest of the Bush clan were right there for Romney.

BUT LOW AND BEHOLD! Once Romney got himself trounced, well and truly trounced, just days, JUST DAYS after he had a double digit lead, ----------- oh behold Jeb Bush getting all shy and retiring about his support for Romney.

Oh how that must rankle with Romney and his family!

What a tangled web some do weave while working only to deceive!

The only thing that might be more of a hoot than Rubin answering her own "Come to Jesus" moment for Newt, will be watching Quin Hillyer walk down that main aisle, confessing his malice and his doubts over the Newtster, having probably some crying jag like Boehner.

So, -------- shall we receive him back into the fold?

I wonder.......

Jennifer Whatzhurnaym is no one to talk--she should stop work at WaPo and show more appreciation for the Tea Party and Conservatives--and stop pandering to Socialists.

Drek| 1.23.12 @ 4:30PM

She was a Jewish Democrat. Not decades ago, but less than a single decade ago she was working for John Kerry.

Let her pay her dues!

Let her prove herself in the trenchlines alongside those she scorns and derides, southern conservatives.

Let her spend some time that we can put to the test her motives.

Until such time, --------------- let her shut the hell up with open letters demanding this and that worthy to stand up and proclaim himself for a man who has been on all sides of every single issue under the Sun!

How can any man get up and proclaim for Romney without any real conviction in what it is exactly that Romney stands for!

RJ| 1.23.12 @ 3:11PM

I disagree. The GOP voters do not need elected officials to tell us who to vote for. We can figure that out in listening to the candidates.

Drek| 1.23.12 @ 4:36PM

Rubin has seen the inside poll numbers, ------------ and in the current parlance, she's having a cow.

So in her frenzied desperation that the GOP might actually go with a guy who isn't all casual about abortion, nor all cool and comfortable with flamers, she's in a panic, a full fledged, full throated, nerve wracking panic.

Hence the calls for others who are not amused by Romney collapsing to come riding into the rescue.

What cavalry can possibly arrive to save the fair damsel Romney from those red-meat-eating, savage conservatives?

What Coast Guard cutter can possibly espy Romney adrift on the waters of cluelessness, drifting further and further out to sea, and without so much as a life jacket?

Romney is on the ropes.

Poor Jen.

Poor Hugh.

Poor Ann.

Oh the humanity..........

Sick Of The GOP Establishment| 1.23.12 @ 8:02PM

You forgot poor Michael Medved Drek. He was spinning Saturday's results fast & furiously today & warning conservatives Gingrich will pull down Republicans in all 57 states (couldn't help myself) if he's the nominee. In Mr. Medved's opinion, only Myth Romney can beat Obysmal. Surprise, surprise!

Stiff upper ~S~| 1.23.12 @ 3:27PM

It's just the age old parody of leadership, like "Mission Acconplished", 3500 days early.

During the rise in the oil prices following the Iranian revolution, President Jimmy Carter announced policies that would prevent the US from ever importing a single drop of oil more per year than in 1979. The program included subsidies for alternative energies and serial increases in the efficiency (C.A.F.E. = corporate average fuel economy) standards for automobiles

Carter called it, presciently, "the moral equivalent of war". Anyone today doubting Carter's insight? Any takers at the Republican National Convention?

HAHAHAH thought not! REAGAN implemented the "SAVE America's oil, use the Arabs gojuice @ $20 a BBL THEN tap our reserves when theirs are DRY.

All things considered, Gasoline is NO more expensive today, than it was in 1923. $1236 Average wage, $.25 gallon gas. Now $36K income, $3.25 for gas. But the middle east is the most expensive way to get oil.

If we fasttrack alternative research and investment as we did the Liberty ships and B17's in WWII, Drill ALL our own reserves up and burn them ourselves (letting the rest of the world choke on the dregs of the oil era) and lead this world into the renewable energy future as TRENDSETTERS!!!!!, we can take BACK the economic leadership stupid oil management has lost us.

"And, now, the tragic truth: had Reagan left those CAFE standards in place, and the US had continued to conserve oil at the same rate as it had from 1979-85, the US today would be importing not a single drop of oil from the Persian Gulf. Not one. Zilch. Zorch. Nada. (See, e.g., Amory Lovins, "Energy Security Facts", Rocky Mountain Institute)."

30 years too late. REAGAN fucked us, not the Democrats.

" Bush, always trying to ape Reagan to outdo his father, managed to cancel the remaining tax-credits for purchasing hybrid cars, weakened efficiency standards for nearly everything, provided enormous tax breaks for Hummers and other gas-guzzlers."

Bumr50| 1.23.12 @ 3:29PM

I can't wait to hear Jen's shrieks when these leaders endorse Newt Gingrich!

Robbie| 1.23.12 @ 3:33PM

Yeah, because Rubio, DeMint, and other want to be on record endorsing someone who'll lose 35 or more states.

Drek| 1.23.12 @ 4:22PM

Just wait for Rubin herself to make the altar call for Gingrich.

Oh the drama.........

Oh the humanity.........

Al Adab| 1.23.12 @ 3:41PM

Time to put the nation ahead of fragile egos, tell Romney to give it up and coalesce around whoever can deliver in November.

Teflon93| 1.23.12 @ 6:20PM

Isn't it funny how no one ever calls on Mittens---or any other RINO---to take one for the team? They claim they care about electability, but despite evidence that the base won't support Romney and the looooong trail of RINO failures in the general election---the latest being just 4 years ago with a man who mopped the floor with Little Lord MittleRoy----it just is NEVER time for the RINOs to suck it up and support a conservative.

Drek| 1.23.12 @ 6:43PM

I'm beginning to strongly suspect that if we go with the Newtster, then the establishment and the elites will sabotage his candidacy.

They're rich; they're not hurting; they can get through another four years of this idiot Obama. And all the while, they will endlessly regale us with how the loss in 2012 was because the base refused to go with Romney.

They'll sabotage us and blame us if we fail to prevail.

They're real pieces of work, to be sure.

Now we got Governor Crispy Creme in NJ running out there and repeating Democrat contrived bullshit from back in the day. Yet he says Gingrich is the embarrassment.

This is all about the pathologies and the prejudices that prevail and dominate inside the Beltway and on Manhattan.

Teflon93| 1.23.12 @ 10:12PM

Quite right.

It is fun though watching the RINOs pretend high dudgeon at Gingrich talking back to the media while talking up Christie, whose sole virtue is being rude to union hacks.

Being a MittBot requires the very latest cognitive dissonance maintenance subroutines.

Oldefarte| 1.23.12 @ 3:52PM

Enough of this Santorum more conservative than Ginguich garbage, already. The one/only thing Santorum is exclusively conservative on is social issues, more specifically ABORTION. This country's survival does not [and never will] depend upon preventing abortions [again, my heretical Catholic background prefers abortions, in order to prevent the misery/pain of lifetime abuse to children born into trailor-trash environments and unloved/uncared for as a result]. Agreed, Ginguich has his faults, but apparently voters [including conservatives] are overlooking same because at least he has the courageous guts to call out Obama, Democrats and the MSM as to their undeniable worthlessness natures. Does he have baggage, you bet, but if/until someone else in the Republican pack shows equal/greater hutspa, then game on and you go Newt!!!!!!!!

Teflon93| 1.23.12 @ 6:26PM

There's a scuff on your jackboot, there, Oldefarte.

Oldefarte| 1.24.12 @ 10:55AM

I don't have a 'jackboot'......but this current Democrat socialist administration which the dummies put in charge in November of 2008 certainly do have many, many JACKBOOTS and are constantly using same!!!!!!!

Sick Of The GOP Establishment| 1.23.12 @ 8:15PM

"This country's survival does not [and never will] depend upon preventing abortions [again, my heretical Catholic background prefers abortions, in order to prevent the misery/pain of lifetime abuse to children born into trailor-trash environments and unloved/uncared for as a result]. "
Really? When did God quit & put you in control? The God I know & serve will not bless a nation that slaughters His children & they are His long before there ours. People with your thought process are dangerous & have given power to the worst murderous tyrants this world has seen. Dr. Eichmann would be proud of you.

Oldefarte| 1.24.12 @ 10:50AM

'.....When did God quit & put you in control?....' NEVER, but God DID put the Catholic Church and others IN CHARGE and their priests have done a marvelous job of sexually/phychologically abusing children who were born to indigents and who turned to these priests IN CHARGE for guidance, DUMBARS! What does Dr Eichmann have to do with abortion? [is he president of NOW perhaps]. YOU'RE A MORON!!!!!!!!

tonypal| 1.23.12 @ 4:38PM

Why are we talking about all these socialists like DeMint and Rubio when a man like Ron Paul is in the world?

Up until last week, I was nothing more than a neo-con, Israel-Firster with nothing better to do than dis his Paulness. Then I saw the light. Upon submission of my official nickname for Mitt Romney (Flip Flopney - it's a Clint thing, you know), I was reborn as a Paulbot.

Since then, the sun has shined brighter and my food has tasted better. So forget all these conservative poseurs. Come over to the Paul side. It's so easy, as I can attest. Volunteer in one of our thousands of cut and paste labs all throughout the galaxy. Or join the Paul for President think tank, where young men are hard at work sitting in their parent's basements - in their underwear, of course - developing new, cutting edge nicknames for Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich and other well know socialists. Don't be a d*u*c* b*g, become a Paulbot today.

Drek| 1.23.12 @ 5:07PM

Forget about Paul.

Why waste your time for a guy who isn't going to gain the nomination, your sarcasm is better used elsewhere.

Clint| 1.23.12 @ 7:21PM

Tonypal,

NEVERRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!

Just say no to Paul Trek II: The Wrath of Ron.

tonypal| 1.23.12 @ 7:45PM

Just stopped by the Paulsonic Temple for a cranial readjustment. Not sure what they do, but they insisted that I be put under for a few minutes. I woke up and found that I was attracting metal objects. They told me it wouldn't last long and wouldn't you know, they were right.

Nick| 1.23.12 @ 7:57PM

Tonypal,

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

Just say no to Paul Bot: Washington Mall Cop -
This Time We Take The White House!

William R| 1.23.12 @ 7:58PM

You're a loser in this game we call life Tony

tonypal| 1.23.12 @ 8:25PM

Not since I joined the Paul campaign. Now my life has meaning. I've been assigned the incredibly challenging yet rewarding task of making up new nicknames for socialist republican nominees. I was proud to introduce Flip Flopney, but then Dear Leader spoke to me via the giant 200" screen that fellow Paulbots were kind enough to install in my house (which has been turned over to the campaign for various reasons I'd rather not discuss).

Anyway, happily back to the point. I was informed that I must do more, much more. One clever nickname, while sufficient for indoctrination purposes, isn't enough. Much more is required. So I came up with Romney Mitt, which is obvious yet to the point. Then there's Ttim Yenmor, which sounds Finnish. There's no we're ever going to elect someone who sounds Finnish.

As you can see, I'm not really good at this and I've applied for a different position. I asked for cut and paste detail, but that's what everyone else does. I guess the only alternative is the F**K Y** department. That's the one where you go on sites like this and curse at people. I know it makes me sound like a liberal, but anything for the cause.

Teflon93| 1.23.12 @ 6:17PM

I'm sorry, Quin, but who is Jennifer Rubin?

'Cause I'm with this guy:

Thanks for the link, Teflon93!

Teflon93| 1.23.12 @ 10:13PM

No problem, Nick---courtesy of Mark Levin's Facebook updates. Worth checking out if you get a chance.

PCP Smoker| 1.23.12 @ 8:32PM

There is nothing that that idiot has to say that is relevant. She is still licking her wounds over her boy Romney getting clocked.

ThatJoeGuy| 1.23.12 @ 8:33PM

I'm beginning to wonder if anyone here has a clue what a conservative is?? She sure doesn't and neither does this author.
