Even though IMO un-important, his tax returns are apparently a necessity to the overly curious. So what, he's filthy rich. BRAVO. KUDOS. WELL DONE. We live in supposedly a CAPITALISTIC nation, not a SOCIALISTIC one. As long as his profiteering is leget and legal, what's the big deal? It's simly a shame that those screaming for release of these tax returns don't simultaneously shout for the release of Obama's school transcripts, tuition/financial records from expensively private insitutions, his selected choice of college courses, etc!!!!!!!!!!!
Drek| 1.22.12 @ 1:37PM
Funny thing.
The exit polling of the Republican party, the party most friendly to Capitalism, indicated that Romney's support came almost exclusively amongst those who earned over $200,000.
Which means the vast amount of people who don't earn that much, voted against Romney.
Now if you desire to let the general devolve into questions of Romney's wealth, and how he got it, which plays exactly and precisely into the well-l;aid ambush the media and obama has laid out of him and for us, -------------- I think you should think again such an approach.
Romney IS out of touch. Part of that out of touchness so to speak consists of his massive wealth.
I know some here, like in ancient Israel, view vast wealth as a sign that you have extraordinary powers and skills.
But I don't have that type of view about massive wealth.
Nor do most American voters.
AS HAS BEEN indicated by the exit polling.
martin j smith| 1.22.12 @ 11:52AM
Well woopsi du. And Romney is setting an example--of course we have our Dear Leader Obama who is the Great Setter of Example for us all right ? Hesse burger anyone-oh and shake and fries ?
Clint| 1.22.12 @ 12:56PM
" On NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Gingrich told moderator David Gregory that Romney’s decision settles the issue. “I think that’s a very good thing he’s doing, and I commend him for it,” Gingrich said. “As far as I am concerned, that particular issue is now set aside and we can go on to talk about bigger and more important things.”
Do We Believe Gingrich Surrogates Are Now Gonna Let Romney's Wealth & Finances Alone ?
Nah.
Drek| 1.22.12 @ 1:33PM
Nor should we..........
Romney is out of touch, and just about every other week or so he lets drop some turn of phrase that indicates as much.
So why should Gingrich supporters let that line of attack go?
That which drags Romney down, that which stultifies the establishment, that which infuriates supposedly conservative pundits, ------------ right now, ------------------- that's a good thing.
It's tremendously important not just that Romney be stopped cold. But that his candidacy be destroyed.
This party MUST separate itself from the control of a failed, FAILED Northeastern approach to politics and to policy.
This party desperately needs Gingrich, yes DESPERATELY NEEDS Gingrich. For only Gingrich can shatter the stranglehold that the Northeastern elites have over this party.
Drek| 1.22.12 @ 1:29PM
As Paul Ryan's own actions demonstrated the legitimacy, the accuracy and the validity of Gingrich's critique of his plan, ---------------- so too now has Gingrich's keen political instincts led him aright to zero in on Romney's massive wealth and the manner in which he earned it.
Whereas before the establishment thought that the massive wealth of Romney was an asset, Gingrich has made of that wealth a millstone, which Romney doesn't know how to get away from.
Exit polling indicated that the only people who voted for Romney were those whose wealth is much greater than their fellow citizens.
WHICH IS EXACTLY WHY the obama regime intended to target Romney on wealth, and target him on the 1% versus the 99% thing.
Going with Gingrich obliterates the Democrat scheme of attack, which has been laid out for well over a year. The whole urban unrest that the Dems have well planned for next Sumner becomes absurd if Gingrich is the nominee.
Why walk willingly into an ambush that has been well laid for Romney!
Chuck| 1.22.12 @ 1:54PM
Check for redactions and missing pages especially concerning "off shore investments". Also Romney needs to address every single off shore investment he has including the amount invested or money gaining interest in banks and the amount of taxes paid to both the federal and state government. These Blind Trusts need to be checked to see if there are any peep holes for Romney to look through and make adjustments. One or two years a typical evasive Romney answer is not enough, he needs to go back to year one of placing money in off shore accounts.
Matt| 1.22.12 @ 2:07PM
Gee, yeah having Gingrich as the nominee would obliterate the Dems plan of attack in November. Because he's a communist.
Gingrich and Romney are poison for the GOP's future.
Interested Conservative| 1.22.12 @ 2:29PM
It'll be interesting when Newt and Obama compare notes on their income as authors. Particularly how they divided it with their co-authors.
Drek| 1.22.12 @ 8:19PM
A brain dead observation: Gingrich a communist.
One wouldn't even know where to begin to disabuse somebody of such idiocy.
JmsA| 1.22.12 @ 8:07PM
The amazing thing about Romney is that he has seemingly been running for President forever, yet he hasn't gotten it down yet.
Drek| 1.22.12 @ 8:17PM
And he never will.
somnolence| 1.22.12 @ 9:16PM
If Gingrich is the nominee he won't get my vote and I could give a crap less if Obama is reelected in the fall. That is how much I despise this ultimate Washington insider with an ego of no bounds and an undisciplined inner psyche.
Dai Alanye | 1.23.12 @ 12:36AM
Based on the foregoing comments, my boy Santorum is going to get the brass ring yet. I'd better hurry and send him another thou.
Greta| 1.23.12 @ 12:43AM
Newt was exposing Romney to the entire attack plan of the Obama mama's and their 99% idiocy they have been steaming up for a year. As stated above, Newt does not fit that model attack and throws them for a loop. Newt scares the hell out of the Democrats. Remember, they love to talk about Clinton all the time as their big successful gumba and would find it hard to make headway on Newt on moral issues. Newt was not a serial sexual harrassment king which Clinton was if not an outright rapist. Are they going to attack Newt as a big government guy? What is the attack on New? That he is risky because he has so many ideas and doesn't follow up on them? How does that fit with hope and change guy on their side? Newt is the perfect fit for the Republican Party if they really want a conservative candidate and not another poor campaign. Newt exposed the underbelly the democrats have been planning for in boring, flip floping mitt.
I am beginning to believe Coulter wants another Obama term because she makes millions with obama in the white house. Christie wants Mitt because he will lose opening the door for Christie to be the saviour in 2016. Give him 4 years to drop half his weight so he almost looks like a real person. The argument is that Newt has too many ideas at a time when Washington seems to have zero idea on every major problem. That makes sense. Last time the government had balanced budgets, it came with Clinton and Newt. If that is what it takes, give me someone with some background to overcome in their personal life.
Greta| 1.23.12 @ 12:45AM
Thought he was not going to release a one return and then be forced to release more thus having an ongoing drip problem. Now he loses and will release one year and an estimate on this year. It will be his "birth certificate issue" if he is nominated.
somnolence| 1.23.12 @ 10:31AM
Romney tonight: "Those of you in the audience are aware, aren't you, that Speaker Gingrich LIED under oath and had to pay a $300,000 fine for doing so in 1999. Although he was cleared of all the ethics violations, his colleagues in the House, by a majority, do not dismiss the suspicion and wariness about him that continues to this day". It is more than verifiable that he was more than a "historian" for Fannie and Freddie, and some of the facts are these-----------." Then a loud, voluminous exchange will occur between the two men, with Santorum just standing there cooly and calmly taking it all in. That is the scenario I would like to see. I really don't want to vote for Gary Johnson this fall.
