Romney Concedes

Mitt Romney has ceded South Carolina to Newt Gingrich.

It is a rather bitter concession speech. Without naming Gingrich, Romney essentially said if you criticize him, not only are you are criticizing free enterprise but you are criticizing the voters. It’s all rather unbecoming.

I can’t say I’m terribly surprised by the result. More than two months ago I was skeptical of Romney’s chances in South Carolina even if he won in both Iowa and New Hampshire. Well, up until a couple of days ago, Romney had won both Iowa and New Hampshire and is now losing South Carolina by 15%.

Mitt Romney may still yet win the nomination but I think tonight’s results convincingly state that he is definitvely not inevitable.

Costa Romney is taking on water during its inevitability cruise. He is probably a fine man, but he can't connect with the voters nor does he show authentic conviction on many issues important to limited government conservatives. Newt winning tonight is good news. Costa Romney will not be in sailing condition in time for Florida. I think it really will come down to Gingrich or Santorum. May the best man win.

It's the South, the land of liberty! No country for New England moderate like Romney and Santorum, or even Ron Paul, who id preaching "black power."

ayrnieu| 1.21.12 @ 8:49PM

Paul's line on drugs is dumb, but Santorum's the one wanting to give felons the vote so much that he brought it up, defended it morally, and may have expected Romney to agree with it.

So I'm disappointed that he'll make 3rd. This position of his should've gotten more attention.

bill| 1.21.12 @ 8:59PM

Paul is accusing Whites for the black suffrage, while denying the fact that majority of blacks are uneducated, live on welfare, and commit 90% of all crimes. He's a LIAR.
Santorum OPPOSED "right-to-Work" law, and he has no chance in SC, a "right-to-work" state.

Dai Alanye | 1.21.12 @ 10:17PM

This question revolves around a belief or lack of belief in redemption. Santorum, as a sound Christian, believes in redemption, as least as far as earning a right to vote after a criminal has paid his debt to society in full.

" the opposition to Romney has been led by conservative grassroots writers and activists, as well as groups like FreedomWorks. Gingrich isn’t much more popular among that contingent than Romney. In May, when Gingrich sharply criticized Paul Ryan’s Medicare reform plan, FreedomWorks Chairman Dick Armey reminded National Review that Gingrich had been a serial offender:

Citing Gingrich’s support of Dede Scozzafava in the 2009 congressional election in New York’s 23rd district, his backing of Medicare Part D and TARP, and his commercial with Nancy Pelosi about climate change, Armey observes that “Newt entered the race with serious ground to make up with these 2 million Tea Party activists.”…

Brendan Steinhauser, director of Federal and State Campaigns for FreedomWorks, reports that the Tea Partiers he’s talked to are “irate” at Gingrich… “I never met a single Tea Party activist that supported Newt Gingrich for president,” he adds."

Did you criticize Newt after his Iowa concession speech? He never acknowledged who won, only stating Santorum had run a clean campaign.

In that sense, he set the tone that he should not be criticized. Under your line of reasoning Newt's speech in Iowa would be unbecoming. Apparently it doesn't make much difference.

Lox Snooze and the rabid zionist's Newt beat the elite's bimbo Mitt. This is wonderful. The way this is going there will be a viable 3rd party, for sure. No prowar Republican can win. The base party is down to about 25% and dying fast. 31% is the Democrat's base. that leaves 44% Independents, plus the fact that there are many dissatisfied in both parties. We are building a long term opposition. It took 20 years from goldwater in 1960 to Reagan in 1980. This election cycle, I expect tremendous turmoil. The fight has just begun. The more the pot is churned the better I like it. The empire is bankrupt and all the kings horses and all the kings men aren't going to put this humpty dumpty together again. On to the next primary. We have our own Samson option for the Republican party.

Little Jack-boot from Wi.: Grandpa, yesterday Jimmy said I was prejudiced.
Grandpa: Do you know what prejudice is?
Little Jack-boot from Wi.: No
Grandpa: Well, prejudice is when you react to someone because of their religion, or their color.
Little Jack-boot from Wi.: But I don't do that!
Grandpa: Who is Jimmy?
Little Jack-boot from Wi.: Jimmy's one of my Jewish friends.
Grandpa: Then you are prejudiced, because you think of Jimmy as your Jewish friend, and not your friend.

"Brokered Convention Chatter on Rise
January 20, 2012.

Limbaugh,
" the scuttlebutt is keep Newt in this. Keep everybody in this. Don't let this nomination get decided in Florida. Keep it going 'cause nobody's happy right now. I wonder how many of you, "Yeah, yeah," agree with that premise, "Yeah, yeah," this is something unsettled, something not quite right here. So there's that scuttlebutt. "

See Ya At The Brokered Convention.

WL| 1.21.12 @ 10:04PM

I am not a fan of yours Clint...

But for once you are right. A brokered convention would be fairly welcome.

I'll look for Romney's and others' speeches later on, but I won't be shocked when Romney "essentially" says nothing of the sort.

Chuck| 1.21.12 @ 9:10PM

To former Gov. Romney; since when does Romneycare have anything to do with free enterprise? Part of the "free enterprise" system is not buying something if you don't want it. A Government mandate to buy health insurance forces you to buy it or face a penalty. Since when is that "free enterprise" Governor Romney?

NEWT CONQUERED SC! OBAMA IS DOOMED!

Cris Worth| 1.21.12 @ 9:24PM

Romney's gaffes this week were numerous and not surprising. But one under the radar was when he said he virtually won Iowa when the result was he lost by 34 votes. Following this the Iowa GOP called it a tie when in fact when Romney won the initial count by 8 votes the Iowa GOP called him the winner. This caused a mini-tsunami in Republican ranks forcing the Iowa GOP to do the right thing. Call this the piling on effect. Romney had a destructive week brought on by taxes in several ways, but this virtual remark brings back memories of his dad when he refused to physically march with civil rights protestors in 1963 but he did march with them virtually. Like father like son history did repeat itself virtually. Virtual is not real but what is real Mitt Romney just got his ass kicked in South Carolina.

Sean| 1.21.12 @ 10:18PM

I am not a Romney fan, but no one knows who won Iowa. Eight precincts are missing. 130 precinct not following protocol.

Dr.Ron Paul Can Beat The Big Government Keynesian, Obama.

" CBS Poll: Independents Prefer Ron Paul Vs Obama
In a head to head match up with incumbent President Barack Obama, the indie voter chooses Ron Paul, a CBS News poll suggested on Monday.

A total of 47% of independent voters said they would choose Ron Paul compared to 45% of independent voters choosing Mitt Romney against Obama, and 41% of independents saying they would choose Rick Santorum. If a Paul-Obama showdown were ever to take place, 47% of independent voters would vote for Paul, 81% republicans and 10% Democrats for a total of 45% of the vote. Obama would get just 40% of the independent vote in that contest, with 85% of the Democrats choosing Obama and 9% of Republicans choosing the President on election day in November. Obama would win the general election by a narrow one point margin if the election was held today between the two."

The Tea Party Rebellion Heads To A Brokered Convention.

If Romney was actually bitter in his concession speech ( and I would not use FOX NEWS as a resource )then he could well lose because voters are not looking for someone who believes that are "entitled to get dit for any reason. They want some one who does it the"old fashioned way" they EARN IT by convincing the voters. That is why Newt won this one.

Oldefarte| 1.22.12 @ 11:54AM

To a limited sense, Romney is absolutely correct in the aspect of "....Without naming Gingrich, Romney essentially said if you criticize him, not only are you are criticizing free enterprise but you are criticizing the voters. It's all rather unbecoming.....". Newt's slamming Romney over his private capitalistic wealth is asinine and olitically plays right into Obama's/Democrats' playbook. As Trump rightfully indicate, such political trash talk should cease. There are numerous subjects to attack Romney on, but going after his wealth and capitalism is self-destruction to Republicans and will result in Obama's/Democrats' re-elections if not stopped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
