The Spectacle Blog

Moments after the polls closed, both FNC and MSNBC have projected that Newt Gingrich as the winner of the the South Carolina GOP Primary.

As recently as 48 hours ago, Romney was leading Gingrich in the polls by double digits. If a week in politics is a lifetime then two days is a quarter century.

As of this writing, however, less than 1% of the ballots have been counted.

But if FNC and MSNBC are right, I wonder if Newt will thank both John King and Juan Williams in his acceptance speech.

...and bringing up the rear in fourth, Dr. Demented.

" Paul looks ahead to Nevada, Minnesota and beyond in GOP race "

" Dr. Ron Paul, meanwhile, did not put much focus on South Carolina. The Texas lawmaker, whose Libertarian views have attracted a fervent following, is focused on building up his delegate count in all 50 states, and he is expected to have the resources to potentially remain in the race up until the nominating convention. Go back to Stormfront, boy. Or maybe your sheet needs ironing.

Paul's finished...he's in single digits. Santorum, who's as interesting as a bucket of cold hamster vomit, is also done. It's Gingrich vs. Romney now, and Romney polls miserably outside of the northeast (although with all the northeasterners polluting Florida, Gingrich will be in for a fight there).

Clint| 1.21.12 @ 8:19PM

Hi, Clint. I'm not Matthew (although I do greatly respect sirrah). But it's nice you see you fuming---you went from discussing winning to whining about a "brokered convention." Seriously, jihadi cheek spreader, do you think Republicans are going to support a scumbag 85% of them voted AGAINST!

See me at the Convention. STFU until then.

As I PREDICTED, Paul finished 4th. Kneel to Zod, Clint.

Dr.Ron Paul Can Beat The Big Government Keynesian, Obama.

" CBS Poll: Independents Prefer Ron Paul Vs Obama
In a head to head match up with incumbent President Barack Obama, the indie voter chooses Ron Paul, a CBS News poll suggested on Monday.

A total of 47% of independent voters said they would choose Ron Paul compared to 45% of independent voters choosing Mitt Romney against Obama, and 41% of independents saying they would choose Rick Santorum. If a Paul-Obama showdown were ever to take place, 47% of independent voters would vote for Paul, 81% republicans and 10% Democrats for a total of 45% of the vote. Obama would get just 40% of the independent vote in that contest, with 85% of the Democrats choosing Obama and 9% of Republicans choosing the President on election day in November. Obama would win the general election by a narrow one point margin if the election was held today between the two."

The People have spoke ! 7 of 10 votes for Gingrich were from the Tea Party supporters, according to the exit POLLS. The Race goes on!

Lullabys, Legends and Lies| 1.21.12 @ 8:05PM

Mimi: But I thought that the Tea Party supported Ron Paul? Or at least that's what I'm told when I read the comments here everyday!! So Mitt Romney's “inevitability” is at least "doubtful" now, and I can live with that, because he's not the guy (we don't need another GOP backed RINO)!! So maybe the good Folks of Florida will go for Ron Paul next, and make them all 1 for 4? Probably not!! I don't think Floridians think that it's a good idea that Iran gets a nuclear bomb!! But I'm going to call my Parents, to see what they think about that? I could be wrong!!

Clint| 1.21.12 @ 9:10PM

" the opposition to Romney has been led by conservative grassroots writers and activists, as well as groups like FreedomWorks. Gingrich isn’t much more popular among that contingent than Romney. In May, when Gingrich sharply criticized Paul Ryan’s Medicare reform plan, FreedomWorks Chairman Dick Armey reminded National Review that Gingrich had been a serial offender:

Citing Gingrich’s support of Dede Scozzafava in the 2009 congressional election in New York’s 23rd district, his backing of Medicare Part D and TARP, and his commercial with Nancy Pelosi about climate change, Armey observes that “Newt entered the race with serious ground to make up with these 2 million Tea Party activists.”…

Brendan Steinhauser, director of Federal and State Campaigns for FreedomWorks, reports that the Tea Partiers he’s talked to are “irate” at Gingrich… “I never met a single Tea Party activist that supported Newt Gingrich for president,” he adds."

Wow - what a joke. The fact that Newt Gingrich was leading in the polls was enough of an embarrassment - now he wins South Carolina? This has got to stop. Enough is enough. Chuck Norris can be overpowered - he's old now. That support means nothing. I would be scared if I was a Republican knowing that this is the man leading my party.

O Tamandua| 1.21.12 @ 7:58PM

Vidar, there's only one problem. Many people, when they genuinely analyze the situation, are a HECKUVA lot MORE scared about our current horrible president, and the prospect of four more years of him, than they are of Newt Gingrich running the country.

I repeat, a LOT more scared of the former than the latter! (And for what it's worth, I've campaigned for NO ONE yet for president on the Republican side.)

Occam's Tool| 1.22.12 @ 1:25AM

You try beating up Chuck Norris. I wouldn't try.

9thID| 1.22.12 @ 11:29AM

I have no doubt that Lord Farquaad Clint was one of the Paulestinians who also made death threats against Glenn Beck this past week. Of course, someone threatening to kill you with a wet and tattered French flag isn't too scary...

THANK YOU, SC! The land of liberty always picks the GOP nominee, as they did in 2012.

Casey Abell| 1.21.12 @ 8:20PM

You might say this is not a great night for the Spectator in general and Quin Hillyer in particular. Two-thirds of the vote is going to Gingrich and Romney.

I hope somebody is keeping sharp objects out of Quin's reach. JUST KIDDING!

RJ| 1.21.12 @ 8:44PM

Its great that the GOP establishment simply can't pick the nominee. We, the voters get to decide. Its time to celebrate and follow the next primary election in Florida.

Clint| 1.21.12 @ 8:48PM

"Brokered Convention Chatter on Rise
January 20, 2012.

Limbaugh,
" the scuttlebutt is keep Newt in this. Keep everybody in this. Don't let this nomination get decided in Florida. Keep it going 'cause nobody's happy right now. I wonder how many of you, "Yeah, yeah," agree with that premise, "Yeah, yeah," this is something unsettled, something not quite right here. So there's that scuttlebutt. "

See Ya At The Brokered Convention.
