A year from today there will be an inauguration in Washington,
D.C.
Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts will be asking someone
to repeat after him the words written in Article II, Section 1,
Clause 8 of the U.S. Constitution.
The question, of course, is to whom Justice Roberts will
administer the oath of office.
Despite the often heated words that have exchanged amongst the
Republican candidates over the past several months, there is
general agreement amongst them and conservatives at large that this
country would be ill-served by another four years with Barack Obama
as President of the United States.
Yet what remains to be seen is who the Republicans shall
nominate. While conservatives may be united in our opposition to
President Obama the question remains if will we be united around
the man who is chosen to oppose him. What also remains to be seen
is if any third party candidates will jump into the fray. But let’s
suppose that does not come to pass. Even if conservatives should
unite around the Republican nominee, there is still the question of
convincing that large portion of the electorate which is neither
conservative nor liberal to take a chance on a new President. The
Republican candidate must be able to preach beyond the choir.
Even in these tough economic times this will not be an easy
task. President Obama has money, organization and a sympathetic
media on his side. He also has history on his side. The last time a
sitting President was defeated without a primary challenger was
when Herbert Hoover was defeated by Franklin Delano Roosevelt in
1932. FDR presided over economic times tougher than we face today
and yet was thrice re-elected by decisive margins.
Of course, we live in a far different country today than when
FDR lived at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. In those days, it was
possible to keep his polio a state secret. But in today’s world of
social media, that secret would last all of five seconds, if that.
It has long been said that a week in politics is a lifetime. Well,
it could also be said that a minute in politics is a
month.
For the moment, with Republicans still duking it out, President
Obama’s standing in the polls is improving. However, in six months
time, those squabbles will be all but forgotten. Over the course of
this year there could be a further economic decline, rising gas
prices or some other domestic or international crisis which
President Obama might not be able to handle which would
give his GOP opponent an opportunity to put his best foot
forward.
Let us also not forget that Obamacare will be argued before the
Supreme Court in the spring, a decision will be rendered in the
summer and that decision could lead to the fall of President Obama
and the inauguration of the 45th President of the United States a
year from today.
Only time will tell.

Once again we should remember the "rising sun" which Franklin saw in the chair at the Convention. Is todays' sun a rising or a setting sun? This election is nothing less than the critical election of our era. It will decide the future of Liberty and self-government not only for America, but for the future of mankind.
If the United States reject their Liberty for a bowl of government pottage then a new dark age of tyranny will descend on this world and self-government will fade into history. Future generations will either curse or name for our failure or sing our praises should we stand for Liberty even at the cost of our personal comfort.

I agree that this is the last chance to preserve a free and law-abiding federal government. If we win, there will be much work to get the nation back on the sanity track. Watching the debate last night, I was happy to see how all of the remaining candidates have improved their communication skills. While I am developing preferences, I will be first in line on election day to vote for whoever is the nominee.
What concerns me most is how much the society has changed over the last 20 or so years. If it weren't for the generational differences, I would have no doubt about this election. In the 1980s, Obama would have not even been elected US Senator and Pelosi would have been considered a kook by the majority of her party.

Yeah, and the KKK would not have been bankrupted by lawsuits, their property confiscated to pay the debts to the court. you don't HAVE a candidate, you havea dogma you are voting for and I am CERTAIN you would like Obama if you looked at the WHITE half of him.
SpiralArchitect| 1.20.12 @ 2:43PM
The white half?
Would that be the Lenninist half or the Musolini half of the Marxist POTUS?
Sorry, I do get his halves mixed up on occasion.

How sad. All you can do is throw a pathetic race card as a form of ignorant argument. You are the bigot.

The man needs to send Michelle to the Chicago lakefront, shopping for new diggs on the north side. The country is going to deliver him buckets of shame.

Frankly his black half is just as disgusting as his white half.

Aaron, I'm wondering whether you think the decision would be worse for Obama if Obamacare is upheld, or if it is rejected.
If it's upheld then that's a victory for Obama, and might take the winds out of the anti-Obamacare sails. On the other hand if it's overturned that also takes the wind out of the anti-Obamacare sails. The "I'll end Obamacare on Day One" promise doesn't mean anything if Obamacare is already dead.
If Romney is the nominee then it doesn't matter much because Romney's ability to attack Oromneycare would be very limited. Actually Newt supported mandates for a long time so any attacks on Obamacare from Newt will have to be carefully nuanced anyway. So they both benefit from having Obamacare overturned but mostly they benefit from not having to address an issue they're both weak on.
fckewe| 1.20.12 @ 1:30PM
you forget that only one single part of the law being struck down does not negate the Affordable Care Act. it only means that it can not be mandated to the States. ALL the rest of it is still and will still be law. The extension of benefits to age 26, the rejection of preexisting conditions, the payout limits that kill sick people...
you want to vote against THAT. Be My guest. Just say no to cancer or heart disease. THAT's the RED party healthcare bill!

The good of the many outweigh the needs of the few?
Does this make you more of a Socialist or a Communist favoring such government over rule?

Why is anyone responding to this mindless twit who calls himself fckewe? In between surfing beastiality porn in his parent's basement and mainlining crystal meth, he has somehow found the time to come up with a clever moniker and annoy a few people who should know better. Leave this piece of human debris to himself.

Just because the dolt's name indicates he screws sheep doesn't mean he should be ignored.
Hmm, why does that make me think of Jack inWi.??
Occam's Tool| 1.20.12 @ 6:57PM
SA: because of my repetitive discussion of the perverted sexuality meme in relation to Paulbots.
And, of course, because Jack probably does shag sheep, because who else would go out with a 4-F cowardly hater of the US?

Perhaps it's so as you say that "The last time a sitting President was defeated without a primary challenger was when Herbert Hoover was defeated by Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1932." However, you must realize that no Democrat would challenge the current president in a primary because of his color. If he were white, they surely would have if only to try to save what will be left of their party.
