At CFIF I give the run-down. Yes, Gingrich won... sort of. Paul lost big, and Romney lost, too.

If Newt does at least as well in the upcoming debate, and Romney does as poorly, this changes everything. As for Santorum, he needs better luck with questions. He's a tenacious debater, no doubt of that. With him up against Obama I think we'd see blood.

Clint| 1.17.12 @ 4:51PM

" Dr. Ron Paul served in the United States Air Force as a flight surgeon for several years (1963-1965). While in the air force, Paul reached the rank of Captain. Directly after his service in the air force, Paul worked again as a flight surgeon for the United States Air National Guard (1965-1968).

" Paul served as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force in the 1960s, spending time on the ground in countries like Ethiopia, Iran, Pakistan, South Korea, and Turkey. He also sits on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs."

" Ron Paul Receives More Military Donations Than All The Other Republican Candidates Combined and More Than President Barack Obama."

"On October 10, 2001, Congressman Ron Paul led the effort in Congress to give President Bush the tools he needed to capture, dead or alive, Osama bin Laden and the other terrorists responsible for September 11th. Dr. Paul introduced on that day H.R. 3076 - The September 11 Marque and Reprisal Act of 2001.

If passed, that legislation would have given President Bush an additional weapon against bin Laden. If Dr. Paul's legislation had passed in 2001, it is likely bin Laden would not have been around until May of 2011."

Paul was NOT a flight surgeon. He was a gynecologist. He NEVER was trained for aviation medicine.

Give it a rest, we know he was a draftee. Flight surgeons are CAREER OFFICERS, not one-termers.

(USAF, 1981-1993, ANG/AFRES 2001-2009...and I FLEW. Paul DIDN'T or he would have had an AVIATION BADGE on his blues.)

Matthew Quigley| 1.17.12 @ 7:18PM

Incidentally, there is NO SUCH THING as the "United States Air National Guard." The ANG is designated by STATES, such as Texas, Montana, Nebraska and New Mexico Air National Guard. Five years service, two AD and three ANG, is ONE TERM OF SERVICE for a commissioned officer. A doctor COMES IN as a captain, and since Paul never got a promotion, it's a certainty that he was a LOUSY OFFICER.

You're shilling for someone that anyone who has spent six weeks in a BMTS would be able to tell is NOT quite what he is advertised as being.

Now go back to playing "World of Warcraft," Pizza Face, and leave the grown-ups alone.

Clint| 1.17.12 @ 8:27PM

"In the U.S. Air Force, most flight surgeons have received initial training in the form of the Aerospace Medicine Primary (AMP) course, an eight week training program that involves aeromedical topics as well as aircrew and survival training"

Clint| 1.17.12 @ 8:29PM

"In the U.S military, flight surgeons are trained to fill general public health and occupational and preventive medicine roles, and are only infrequently "surgeons" in an operating theater sense. "

Matthew Quigley| 1.17.12 @ 8:54PM

So explain why all his Air Force photos fail to show an aeronautical rating badge? Flight Surgeon's are aircrew qualified, so where are his wings? Why does he just have a Medical Service badge like any other pussy mechanic?

Come on, boy, where are his wings? I spent six months in UPT to get mine, so if he would get a pair in eight weeks (HAH!), where are his? Could it be HE WASN'T A FLIGHT SURGEON AND JUST A PUSSY INSPECTOR?

Answer the question, boy...don't just avoid it, like Dr. Deranged does...where is his aeronautical qualification? Show some links to photos that show him WEARING FLIGHT SURGEON'S WINGS! Come on, boy! Where's your god's aeronautical qualification?

Your spouting this bullshit about Paul belittles every pilot, navigator, EWO, aircrewman, Air Battle Manager, (actual) flight surgeon and flight nurse in the Air Force...and their counterparts (as there are or are not) in the Army, Navy and Marine Corps! So either put up or shut up, boy!

How could a vagina crew chief suddenly become an ENT?

I guess Paul's Paultards can't even keep their lies about him straight...first he's a "flight surgeon" who never wore the qualification badge, and now all of a sudden he's an ENT! Wow...I guess he's also Albert Schweitzer saving the world from AIDS and cancer!

Boy, get your propaganda straight. Paul was a female genital inspector who couldn't tell you what hypoxia is or how a human body reacts in an unpressurized cabin at 40 grand. And I doubt he magically became an ENT, either.

Repeating the same propaganda over and over and over is not the same thing as providing proof to back it up. As you cannot prove your assertion, or refuse to do so, the sole conclusion is that Paul was NOT a flight surgeon.

This is easily proveable by a search of military records to determine his AFSC. That will also show whether he was aeromedically qualified, and since no photos have been published showing him wearing flight surgeon's insignia, whereas we have photos of Rick Perry not just wearing pilot's wings, but also in the cockpit of a C-130...or GW Bush in his blues, or flight suit (also with his wings) and with an F-102...or John McCain in correct Navy uniform, as well as flight suit, with wings visible and both sitting in the cockpit of or standing next to an A-4...or GHW Bush taken in Naval flight training, in his uniform with wings, and with an "Avenger" TBF/TBM.

What do we have of Paul? Photos in blues and 1505's, with Medical Service occupational badge, but NO flight surgeon's wings. His delusional and ignorant mouthpiece can find no images to back up Paul's campaign's claims to be aviation medicine qualified, and thus keeps spouting in increasing anger and frustration, propaganda and ad homineim attacks on those who dare question the "Chosen One"...in precisely the same manner as the Obamabots did starting in 2007 when similar questions were raised about THEIR idol's background and qualifications.

The Paultards, however, display a singular ugliness, as well as irrationality. Their line of attack is this: "You question Ron Paul's statements, therefore you must love Israel." Where they get this, I can only speculate, but having dealt with Paultards on this site, other sites and in person, I can say this about them:

1) They are poorly educated. None can spell or put together a coherent sentence.
2) They have weak reasoning abilities and thus make ridiculous linkages, i.e., to disagree with Paul means you are loyal to another nation before the United States.
3) They are virulently anti-Israel and antisemitic in general. In a Facebook exchange, it took one Paultard three posts before he started blithering about "Israel supporters using the Constitution to wipe their (butts)" (spelling corrected). On Mark Levin's show the other night, one launched into using the old neo-Nazi phrase "Zionist Occupied Government" after about a minute, and in another Facebook exchange, a group of Paultards were denying the historical (pre-1948) existence of Israel, the actual existence of a Jewish people AND the Holocaust. The lack of internal logic on that one alone was stupefying.
3) They are unable to answer legitimate questions or comments about Paul and what he wants to do without resorting to cut-and-paste screeds taken either from Paul's website, Wikipedia posts (factual errors and all) or printed campaign material...or from supporting organizations' websites which might be a little more sanguine about Paul's real positions than Paul himself can afford to be.

This is meant to distinguish between the Paultard and the Paul supporter, although there are some points of similarity between the two. Often the more intelligent Paul supporter will lay out a reasoned defense of libertarianism, and then try to explain how Paul is the principaled libertarian in the race. When you ask said supporter about Paul's stances, the discussion remains civil, but he begins to get flustered when you go into detail...such as the Rosa Parks Medal incident (look it up, it's a perfect object lesson into Paul's actual ignorance of the Constitution, as well as his less-than-principled approach to governance).

Often it's possible to judge whether or not a given office seeker is worthy of that office based upon the supporters he attracts. Hitler had his Brownshirts. McGovern had hippies and draft card burners. Obama has Communists, terrorists, islamists and the evil ignorant. Paul has bigots, fools, the functionally illiterate and the mentally ill. Since an office seeker's following is often reflective of the office seeker himself, the question then becomes "Do we want THEM to influence HIM and the decisions he makes?" I'd say based on who Paul's constituency seems to be, the answer is a resounding HELL NO!

Ken (Old Texican)| 1.18.12 @ 9:22AM

Quigley,
thanks again for the clarifications. See my post above.

Dan Phillips| 1.18.12 @ 8:12AM

Matthew, as far as I know, no one is questioning that Ron Paul was a flight surgeon. You are making a novel argument bases on flimsy evidence. If it is so obvious that he wasn't a flight surgeon, why are you the only one making the argument?

Matthew Quigley| 1.18.12 @ 8:52AM

Dan, I bring this up because Paul's use of the claim is meant to bolster his foreign policy credentials. I spent twenty years in the Air Force, active and reserve, and there are a few things I learned: Most medical officers are good and decent practitioners, but very few are actually military men or women. Paul was not in the service long enough to be one of the few medical officers who was selected for a command and as a result, he doesn't have the military knowledge available from that angle to support his foreign policy positions. Someone like Allen West does, just as an example.

Secondly, Paul's use of the term "flight surgeon" seems to be based on the misperception that all Air Force physicians MUST be aeromedically qualified...after all, they're in the Air Force, right? That's akin to the perception that some folks have that if an Air Force officer flew, he MUST have been a pilot. I was a pilot, but pilots are a small percentage of Air Force aviation personnel...many more are rated as Navigators or Electronic Warfare Officers, and in the Medical Service, most physicians aren't Flight Surgeons, but rather just practitioners in uniform. That specialty takes a great deal of time to learn, and most FS's come from a background as a GP, not as an OB/GYN who spent two years active duty and three years Air Guard. Clint posted a blurb which makes it seem that a Flight Surgeon's rating is granted after an eight-week tech school, and I know from my own dealings with flight surgeons that that just is NOT the case.

It boils down to an issue of credibility. If Paul can't be honest about his military service and medical specialty, is he also being honest about his stances on the issues? He's weaseled on the newsletters, and if you do some checking, you'll see he's been slippery on pork, earmarks and quite a few other things. The flight surgeon claim just gnaws at me because I'm an Air Force veteran, nothing special, just another guy who was taught how to fly an aircraft (trust me, a chimp could do it), and I don't appreciate seeing someone make claims about his own service that are so obviously falsifiable.

Again, I watched only the last few minutes of it, but these debates typically involve non-critical issues mostly. What does allowing or not felons to vote have to do directly with the presidency? I'd say that Ginguich's discussion of work/welfare etc might have more relevance to the administrative office since it borders on intent of budgetary decisions possibly. Again, these debates are mostly worthless, since they sould be structured around asking each candidate a vitally related to the office question and then obtaining each candidates reponse/answer to the same asked question. This way, the viewer-audience obtains a sense of the differences between the candidates according to their seperate answers. When Romney is questioned on felons voting, while Ginguich is questioned on something else, there's no comparison possible!!!!!!!

Ron Paul is preaching "black power." He is "talking black." GOP should expel him for his demagoguery remarks about American Judicial System. He is a liar. Here are some facts:
Majority of Blacks are uneducated and unskilled. They are lazy and don't want to work. they are abusing the welfare system and favor big government.
Not everybody borne on poverty, illiteracy and laziness creates poverty.
Poverty and lack of character prompts crime.
Majority of crimes have been committed by Blacks, and Blacks are imprisoned more than Whites, logically.
The American Justice System is fair and balanced. They do not favor any race but reward redemption and hard work. Blacks lack character and perseverance.
Blacks will remain in poverty and incarcerated unless they invest on education and moral character.
The problem with Blacks are themselves, it's not the Judicial System.

Clint| 1.17.12 @ 8:13PM

Do Your Homework.

" This paper examines 77,236 federal offenders sentenced under the Sentencing Reform
Act of 1984 and concludes the following. First, after controlling for extensive criminological,
demographic, and socioeconomic variables, I found that blacks, males, and offenders
with low levels of education and income receive substantially longer sentences.
Second, disparities are primarily generated by departures from the guidelines, rather than
differential sentencing within the guidelines. Departures produce about 55 percent of the
black-white difference and 70 percent of the male-female difference. Third, although
black-white disparities occur across offenses, the largest differences are for drug trafficking.
The Hispanic-white disparity is generated primarily by those convicted of drug
trafficking and firearm possession/trafficking. Last, blacks and males are also less likely
to get no prison term when that option is available; less likely to receive downward
departures; and more likely to receive upward adjustments and, conditioned on having a
downward departure, receive smaller reductions than whites and females."

Quigley,
one chuckle; "chimps could do it". I have been flying a single engine plane 300 hours a year coast to coast for 35? years in the course of running my many bidnesses, (smile).

...most of those hours and years driving a Bellanca Viking. (thank goodness I discovered them early on.)

I must politely disagree with you about "chimps".

When I think back over the years and the number of "life or death" judgement calls I had to make...of a million descriptions...go or no-go etc...
well, suffice it to say I am not the proverbial "bold pilot" heh.
You have my utmost respect.
What planes did you fly?

Oldefarte| 1.18.12 @ 11:02AM

Me thinks perhaps that Sully Sullenberger adequately proved your point!!!!!!!!!

Matthew Quigley| 1.18.12 @ 3:01PM

Ken,

I trained on the T-37 and T-38, and flew B-52G's and -135 series airframes (RC- and KC- primarily) operationally. I'm checked out on the B-1B, A-10 and AC/C-130.

I apologize for any offense I gave with my crack about trained chimps, but I honestly am impressed by how much knowledge navs, EWO's and ABM's have in their arena of military aviation and I know that I lack the intelligence and education to be able to plot or maintain a course with the detail that a good navigator can, or operate the aircraft's electronic warfare systems as effectively as an EWO is able to. People watch a display by the Thuderbirds or see a fly-past made by a B-52 or C-5 at an airshow and think of how glamorous and fascinating it must be to be a military pilot. It IS a good job, and I loved doing it, but I always kept reminding myself that if I could do it, anyone could do it. So, I tend to deprecate the job from time to time...but I'd never trade the experience for anything, and I don't want to sound like I'm putting pilots in general down. Flying light aircraft takes a skill I lack...ol' BUFF can sometimes be forgiving, but you have to watch her all the time. I've flown light types (Cessnas, primarily...150 and 172), and they were anything but easy. I was always happy to get back into the cockpit of something made by Boeing after flying one of those babies.

You have my respect, as well. I chose to be an old pilot rather than a bold one, too. I'm content piloting a pickup truck these days.
