South Carolina GOP leader Patrick Haddon, who formerly supported Texas Gov. Rick Perry in the 2012 presidential primary, yesterday announced his endorsement of Rick Santorum.
“After looking at all the candidates and their political careers, and looking for a true conservative that has been fighting for real Republican causes, there is only one candidate that has been a consistent conservative fighting [for] family values and supporting pro-life issues,” said Haddon, former chairman of the Greenville County GOP. “That is why Shelly and I are proud to endorse Senator Rick Santorum for President of the United States.”
Haddon’s endorsement of Santorum was at least the second defection from Perry’s South Carolina campaign this week. Spartanburg businessman Barry Wynn switched his endorsement to Mitt Romney, after denouncing Perry’s “destructive” attacks on Romney’s business record at Bain Capital.
Perry, who finished fifth in the Jan. 3 Iowa caucuses and sixth in Tuesday’s New Hampshire primary, is currently fifth in the Real Clear Politics average of South Carolina polls, with 5.7 percent. However, an Insider Advantage poll released this week showed Perry slipping to sixth place behind former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman.

The debacle of this president’s administration is both a cause and a symptom of the decline of American values. Unless Congress impeaches him, that decline will go on unchecked. An eminent jurist surveys the damage and assesses the chances for the recovery of our culture.
It won’t take long for conservatives to scratch this presidential wannabe off their 2008 scorecard.
The American Christmas, like the songs that celebrate it, makes room for everybody under the rainbow. Is that why so many people seem to be hostile to it?
Was the President done in by the economy, or by the politics of the economy?

And several other polls showedPerry bouncing up to around 9%. Santorum's an extreme neocon who's utterly inept on economic policy, while Perry's the one decent conservative other than Ron Paul and would make a fine President. Snotty comments from the chattering class Romneybots are not going to win this election, my friend.
Dai Alanye | 1.16.12 @ 12:58PM
I'll say this for Perry -- he at least has an ego that can challenge Obama's.
After his trouncing in Iowa he read a letter describing himself as not only a good man but a GREAT one. Oh yeah, who can withhold agreement from that assessment? And he's run such an efficient campaign, as well.

I think the jihadist supporter and treason supporter Ron Paul is gonna finish 4th in SC, and no better than 3rd. Clint, your boy is gonna go the way of Aaron Rodegers---down faster than Clint on a Jihadi!
Dai Alanye | 1.16.12 @ 1:00PM
I suppose Clint will throw both his Silver Star and his Good Conduct medal over the White House fence if Ron Paul fails to win SC.
Jill| 1.14.12 @ 10:58AM
This trying to rewrite Santorum's history into a conservative one is laughable. At least be honest and quote all the polls which show Perry up 7 and Santorum down. Besides did not even know this man had supported Perry so who cares and as far as the other switch, he just wants to join Romney as he thinks he will win and that shows little loyalty to me.
Movement conservatives have been crying out for a man who will give the power back to the states and truly downsize the government that Santorum helped enlarge. They finally get Perry and their attacks show they have not meant a word of what they have been preaching all their lives. The phony out cry over attacks on capitalism when Bain was using taxpayer guaranteed funds is vile and just shows conservative media is no more honest than the rest.

We can believe that an 88% rating makes a man pretty darn conservative, especially if his policies have trended further right in the last few years.

Thankfully, Santorum is falling. He would be too easy to attack if we were stupid enough to nominate him.

Sadly, our party is stupid enough. The social cons just are now endorsing him! We are doomed
Laura| 1.14.12 @ 7:13PM
If the Tea Party wants to save face this election year, and they mean what they say (want a small federal government and more power sent back to the states), then the only choice they have is Gov. Perry.
In this year's election, we have a clear choice - a candidate who will cut Washington's power (Perry) or a candidate who will grow government(all other candiates).
Rewriting history to make Rick Santorum look good is a joke, he lost in his own state and supported big government and Arlen Specter. We have in the White House now someone whose last job was a Senator in Congress. I personally am tired of seeing Senators and House members thinking they can go from Congress to the White House without having any state executive experience.

Evangelicals should be ashamed for picking a bald faced liar! There's no other way to discribe Rick Santorum!
Rick Santorum: "But he also earmarks more than anybody else in the Congress, and then doesn't vote for the spending that the earmarks are in."
As you know, earmarks were not disclosed until 2007 -- conveniently for you, the same year you left congress. However, during your time in congress, you were known for your earmarks and support of federal programs which were popular in Pennsylvania. ( see website for link )
In 2011, there were 39,530 earmarks, totaling $129.9 billion. With 535 congressmen, that's an average of 74 earmarks, totaling $242.7 million per member of congress.
Ron Paul had 41 of those earmarks, with a total of $157.1 million. In his own state ( see website for link ):
Silvestre Reyes (D TX-16) requested 48 earmarks, totaling $159.7 million
Al Green (D TX-9) requested 73 earmarks, totaling $541.7 million
Eddie Bernice (D TX-30) requested 69 earmarks, totaling $287.6 million
Chet Edwards (D TX-17) requested 119 earmarks, totaling $212 million
Ciro Rodriguez (D TX-23) requested 88 earmarks, totaling $412.9 million
Henry Cuella (D TX-28) requested 94 earmarks, totaling $783.8 million
Ruben Hinojosa (D TX-15) requested 46 earmarks, totaling $171.4 million
Solomon Ortize (D TX-27) requested 98 earmarks, totaling $588.5 million
Sheila Jackson-Lee (D TX-18) requested 69 earmarks, totaling $752.5 million
Sen. John Cornyn (R TX) requested 54 earmarks, totaling $170.8 million
Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R TX) requested 118 earmarks, totaling $744 million
Clearly, Ron Paul doesn't "earmark more than anybody else in the Congress." That is a lie, Mr. Santorum.
And by the way, he was nowhere near first place in 2010 either -- even in his own state! ( see website for link )
You, on the other hand, voted for H.R. 3058 -- $398 billion for a bridge to nowhere. Can you guess who one of the 19 "nays" were? That's right, Ron Paul.
Turns out, you even went to South Carolina and told everyone that Jim DeMint was wrong on earmarks! ( see website for link ) Don't suppose you'll be expecting that endorsement, eh?

Dr.Ron Paul's Constituents Know He Never Votes For Earmarks On A Principled Stand, Regarding The Usurpation Of Congressional Power By The Executive Branch.
Dr.Ron Paul,
" I have never voted for an earmark. I voted against all appropriation bills ( with the exception of veterans). So, this whole thing about earmarks is totally misunderstood.
Earmarks is the responsibility of the Congress.
If you cut off all the earmarks, it would be 1 percent of the budget. But, if you vote against all the earmarks, you don't cut one penny. That is what you have to listen to. We're talking about who has the responsibility, the Congress or the executive branch?
I'm saying, get it out of the hands of the executive branch. Just listen again about what I have said about the TARP funds. We needed to earmark every penny. Now we gave them $350 billion, no earmarks, and nobody knows..."

Rick, if you make a campaign promise to give the Paulestinians a homeland in the Galveston territories, maybe Mulla Ron will issue a fatwa about not going 3rd party when he drops out. On second thought, how close is Galveston to Waco?
Occam's Tool| 1.16.12 @ 1:25AM
Not that close.
The Palis deserve Galveston as a homeland. Hurricanes, humidity, and White trash like Clint and Jack.
