The Spectacle Blog

Back in 2008 I wrote this column about then-Mayor Lou Barletta of Hazleton, PA, who had become a major figure for leading the effort to crack down on the harboring or hiring of illegal immigrants. He barely lost his race for Congress that year, but came back to win in 2010. Now he has endorsed Rick Santorum for president. It’s a big “get” for Santorum.

How about a blog post about Santorum edging out Newt in New Hampshire: http://bostonglobe.com/news/na.....story.html

Santorum has now been the top vote-getter in both Iowa and New Hampshire amongst the "conservative" candidates.

Joanne| 1.12.12 @ 1:38PM

He got 9% in New Hampshire. Came in 5th! He is not on ballot in all states. He's cooked.

Anommynous| 1.12.12 @ 2:14PM

Came in 4th. He edged out Newt. That's why I posted the article. 1-2-3 were the unconservative troika Romney-Paul-Huntsman, but by beating Newt to finish FOURTH Rick Santorum is the top conservative in the first two contests. Since New Hampshire was dominated by liberal cross-over voters in their open primary, I just wanted to see Santorum finish as the top conservative, and he did.

Sean| 1.12.12 @ 2:22PM

Paul is the most conservative candidate running.

Nite| 1.12.12 @ 7:36PM

Nope, Perry is.

Fourth.

Santorum supported the Dream Act and amnesty, it does not matter who endorses him. He voted against "Right to Work" law, SC is a "Right to Work" state, and Santorum is a "dead man walking," and cannot win in SC.

cliff| 1.12.12 @ 12:53PM

Does it bother you that none of the things you say here are, you know, true?

bill| 1.12.12 @ 1:22PM

Santorum admitted in the debate that he voted against "right to Work" law, and is proud of his record.
It's pay back time. He will be slaughtered (politically) in SC.

Quin| 1.12.12 @ 5:39PM

He voted against RTW on a national level back in the mid 1990s, on federalist (state's rights) grounds. After discussions with Jim DeMint several years ago, he changed his position. His questionnaire for the National Right to Work Committee now shows him to be 100% in line with NRTW's positions. Those are the facts.

bill| 1.12.12 @ 1:24PM

That's why Santorum lost by 18 points in his senate bid in 2006 because of his support for Bush Amnesty and big labors.
He's a "dead man walking."

Clint| 1.12.12 @ 12:13PM

Big Government Chickenhawk Ricky Santorum's Record On Voting For Earmarks, Even The Bridge To Nowhere, His Support For The Lobbyist "K-Street Project" , His Tariff Votes, Medicare Prescription Drugs, No Child Left Behind,Etc. Is Gonna Sink Him With Tea Party Patriots.

Why don't Ron Paul and his supporters ever go after Romney, whose sins paved the way for Obamacare? I never see Ron Paul and his supporters go after Romney, but instead reserve all their ankle-biting for the more conservative candidates. I think that Ron Paul and his supporters are in the end merely Romney's loyal lapdogs, his tools.

Clint| 1.12.12 @ 1:00PM

See My Thumb, Pow !
Gee, Your Dumb.

Dr.Ron Paul Is Only 2 Delegates Behind The RINO-CINO Frontman, Mittens Romney.

Dr.Ron Paul Is Allowing Mittens To Get The Fur Ripped Off Of Him By Mr. Newt And Others.

The Tea Party Rebellion Is In South Caraolina.

Oldefarte| 1.13.12 @ 11:30AM

It's insanely ludicrous for anyone to say '....Your Dumb..." [instead of YOU ARE DUMB or YOU'RE DUMB] and then to go forth and Pennsylvania Jerry a particular candidate while alternatively critisizing others who do not do likewise [but hey, there's a dimes worth of difference between OBAMAITES and PAULISTAS, since they both are lemmingly following their respective idolized leaders off of the cliff of sanity in a HEAR NO EVIL, SEE NO EVIL mentality]!!!!!!!!

Oldefarte| 1.13.12 @ 11:18AM

And how does tea partier Ron feel/opine about the HOMOSEXUALITY and GAY MARRIAGE issues??????

rssg| 1.12.12 @ 12:14PM

This will upset the establishment GOP and RINO's and Neocons - who are all in for mass immigration and the love and worship of "diversity" (read: the displacement of traditional, white American culture and history).

PHILADELPHIA, Penn., Jan. 12, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ -- Today, Republican Presidential Candidate Ron Paul received a major endorsement from Evangelical leader Dr. James Linzey, president and founder of the Military Bible Association.

In a statement to Congressman Paul, Rev. Linzey stated: "Having thoroughly examined your political philosophy and finding that your platform is 100% in line with the Constitution of the United States of America, and examining your political record to find that you have consistently upheld the Constitution and thereby faithfully represented your constituency, and studying your statement of faith to find that your faith and religious experience is 100% compatible with Evangelical Christianity and Orthodox Christianity, I hereby endorse you for the Office of the President of the United States of America. I wish you Godspeed!"

btims| 1.12.12 @ 1:48PM

Congressman Pual appeals to high school and college kids, who are too naive to understand the world and of course, he appeals to liberal/progressives, who want to see the US downgraded in power and independence.

Finally, Paul appeals to obsessed anti Israel nut jobs.

aware| 1.12.12 @ 5:10PM

Don't leave out those crazy liberty loving Patrick Henry types. The ones who don't think the illusion of security is a fair trade for real liberties.

mcr| 1.13.12 @ 8:31AM

Young kids who are too naive to understand that talk is cheap, a candidate must have a record of accomplishment to back it up. Paul talks and talks, good stuff mind you, but where is his record of doing anything he talks about? He has been a congressman for umpteen years and barely has made a difference there.

Romney ans Santorum will be derailed in SC. Romney will compete in FL, with his Bain Capital money, but cannot win there.
Rick Perry will win in SC and FL. Newt will be in the 2nd place in both states.
Santorum will bow out after SC.

Nite| 1.12.12 @ 7:37PM

I agree with you Bill.

bill| 1.12.12 @ 11:46PM

I'm predicting Rick Perry making a comeback from behind win in SC. Romney will be derailed, Santorum will end his campaign. Newt will be in the game, a possible VP nominee with Rick Perry being the president.

Oldefarte| 1.13.12 @ 11:24AM

Illegal immigration is a huge cost/expense to each/every government [national, state and local] in this country, and Obama's/Democrats' pandering to these illegals for political purposes is dispicable, unlawful and he/they sould be defeated in November because of same [and other issues as well]!!!!!!!!!

Michelle Malkin points out many positive aspects of Santorum, including he opposed the auto bailout, Freddie and Fannie bailout, and porkulus bills,He voted against cap and trade in 2003, voted yes to drilling in ANWR, and unlike Romney and Gingrich, Santorum has never dabbled with eco-radicals like John Holdren, Al Gore and Nancy Pelosi.
