I can't recall if it was Patrick Swayze, Charlie Sheen, C. Thomas Howell or one of the other cast members who said it in the still depicted, but it remains inspiring (Charlie should have clung to that more than "Tiger Blood" or "Winning").

You might want to send Wlady a memo, Quin, since he is pining for Establishment cred by supporting Willard.

From very far away (New Zealand), I look at such candidates as Mr Romney, Dr Paul, Mr Gingrich and Mr Huntsman and wonder that they are being seriously considered as presidential nominees.
Mr Romney appears to be a generic politician, and hopelessly compromised when it comes to such vital matters (for the US) as the repeal, in its entirety, of Obamacare.
Dr Paul? Well, his willingness to disestablish a large percentage of the federal bureaucracy is certainly more correct than not. And you can hear that he is sincere, which I imagine is why he takes some people with him. Still, you can be 100% sincere and just as bottom-line wrong.
Huntsman? From this distance, an equivocator. You already have had, and will continue to have, plenty of those.
Mr Gingrich. Sometimes very impressive. Yet all too often, he would appear to be a go along to get along type. And he's unsteady under pressure. Considering what is going to transpire for the US in the next decade, I think you need stubborn persistence, rather than breadth of knowledge and flashes of intelligence.
It's a shame that Mrs Bachman has been knocked out - she was the only one who seemed to have a sense of urgency about re-tracing the economic wrong steps that Bush Jr., and drunken sailor Obama have taken.
Governor Perry? No judgement - I mean, "Vulture capitalism"?
Write-in candidate? How long a shot can the US afford, given what's coming?
So, from my acknowledged very great distance, there is only one quasi-conservative candidate left - Mr Santorum. And while I do not have a vote, I nonetheless have a lot riding on the outcome of the November election. Without proper US leadership, it's not only the US that is going to diminish and decline, but the rest of the west as well. Mind you, the rest of the west is probably too stupidly soft-socialist to recognize that fact in advance.
Mitt Romney? The front runner? The sponsor of Romneycare trying to depose the sponsor of Obamacare?
Surely, good people, you jest.

See this, people? Even though this man is upside down he has the Republican nomination process pegged better than most of the commenters from the US.

Thank you, Dai. I have indeed been paying close attention. I seem to remember a post from you somewhere recently saying that NZ was perhaps a fallback position for those who dreaded the thought of a further four years of the current regime. Personally, I would welcome North American refugees. Be warned, though, that quasi-socialism reigns pretty much unchallenged here. There's a government here, only recently re-elected, that is described by nearly everyone as "center right". By US standards, however, it is decidedly liberal. One of the reasons why this is so is that healthcare in NZ was nationalized decades ago. It does indeed change the relationship between citizens and governments. Governments come to take precedence. That said, the healthcare system in NZ works, but that is a function of this country's small size, not because socialized medicine is a particularly good idea. NZ has only four and a half million people. That means two degrees of separation, rather than five or six. The country is in a single time zone, rather than EST to Hawai'i time. And the land area is that of a single middle-size state. So the fact that the healthchare system sort of works here, does NOT mean that nationalization will work in the US. Some things simply cannot be scaled up. Nominate Romney, and the United States will find this out the hard, the very hard, way. Romney will not prevail in the November election, because he cannot attack Obamacare credibly. And from where I watch, Obamacare is an existential threat to everything that has made the US admirable - you will grossly increase the size of your federal government in a way that will marginalize "You, the people". Lord I hope South Carolina and Florida primary voters see sense.

From my viewpoint, it's mostly all over but the shouting [Romney likely will be the nominee]. It is as stated beyond the pale of a bare minimum of common sense that these so called pro-capitalists Republicans are attacking Romney on his venture capitalism activities. My G-D, don't we have enough problems with the socialist-Democrats and Obama currently with their communistic governmental usurptions of wealth/income? If this isn't a case of WITH FRIENDS LIKE THIS, WHO NEEDS ENEMIES????????
GrouchoMarxist| 1.13.12 @ 11:08AM
As infra dig as it is to say it, I agree with our NZ friend about Bachmann. She was treated with derision, but, to me, she seemed to be the most principled and forceful of the candidates out there. But, my friends and all were very dismissive. "Can not be elected". ?Quien Sabe?
