Here are my final thoughts on tonight’s New Hampshire GOP debate which aired on ABC.

Jon Huntsman - A typical performance for the former Ambassador to China with more than a touch of snark. Somehow I don’t think there’s a significant Mandarin speaking community in New Hampshire.

Ron Paul - He had a couple of testy exchanges with Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich and squeaked at a high enough pitch that he could be heard by dogs residing at the animal shelter nearest to St. Anselm College.

Mitt Romney - He stayed on message, made George Stephanopoulos look ridiculous and got some laughs when he called Ron Paul “our constitutionalist.” Nobody challenged him except for Santorum and Romney seemed to get the better of those exchanges.

Rick Santorum - He had a particularly testy exchange with Paul over his lucrative post-Senatorial activities. Drew jeers when he told Paul he wasn’t telling the truth after a bell rang. He did challenge Romney on a couple of occasions but didn’t knock him off his game. It wasn’t one of his better debates.

Newt Gingrich - Contrary to expectations, Newt did not go nuclear on Romney. He reserved his toughest language for Ron Paul. Aside from that exchange, Newt stayed positive and drew applause when he challenged Sawyer and Stephanopoulos over their gay marriage questions and energy independence.

Rick Perry - He spoke little but earned applause when he spoke about the Obama Administration’s “war on religion.” When he suggested that New Hampshire adopt a right to work bill, the applause was far more tepid. Perry is clearly gearing up for South Carolina.

The next debate will take place tomorrow morning on NBC at 9 a.m.

Actually, Gingrich did come out swinging against Romney with the Bain stuff. But Newt got clobbered in return and decided to go quiet the rest of the way. He did suck up to Santorum all night, which was vaguely irritating.

Otherwise, I pretty much agree with your assessments.

Dr.Ron Paul, Who Never Went To Law School, Schooled The Stumblin' Bumblin' Haaaavaaaad Law Boy.

Dr.Paul Also Gets The Business Cycle And How To Restore The American Economy.

This Upsets The Israel Firster Smear Bund.

Doctor Captain Ron seems to have never read the appropriate article in the Constitution if he thinks Congress has no other options against foreign aggression besides a declaration of war. But then, Paul seems as familiar with the Constitution as he is with his own newsletters.

C Bowen | 1.8.12 @ 5:54AM

Were you scared of Saddam, Dai?

Clint| 1.8.12 @ 9:22AM

"On October 10, 2001, Congressman Ron Paul led the effort in Congress to give President Bush the tools he needed to capture, dead or alive, Osama bin Laden and the other terrorists responsible for September 11th. Dr. Paul introduced on that day H.R. 3076 - The September 11 Marque and Reprisal Act of 2001.

If passed, that legislation would have given President Bush an additional weapon against bin Laden. If Dr. Paul's legislation had passed in 2001, it is likely bin Laden would not have been around until May of 2011."

The Paulestinians affiliation with the Constitution only goes as far as it can be rolled and smoked. I have had several of them point out to me on other threads that the Original Constitution was made of "hemp". Go figure...

Were you tricked into thinking Saddam was a threat, 9th ID?

Why are you repeating Axelrod's words, Clit????? ['.....NewsmaxObama Adviser Axelrod: Voters HaveTroubleTrustingRomneySunday,January8,201209:54AM...WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama's chief campaign adviser says conservative and moderate Republicans are having problems trusting GOP presidential front-runner Mitt Romney.Strategist David Axelrod said on ABC's "This Week" this morning that it's clear Romney is running into resistance from a majority of Republican voters, given that his support is under 25 percent in most national surveys and some early voting states.Axelrod also took aim at Romney's work at the Bain Capital private equity company. Romney has never substantiated his claim that he was a creator of more than 100,000 jobs while leading Bain. Critics cite jobs lost at Bain-acquired or Bain-supported firms that closed, cut back or shifted employment overseas.Axelrod criticized Romney as "a corporate raider" and said "bringing a Bain mentality" to running the economy undercuts Romney's candidacy......']

Paulbots: he's gonna finish 3rd again, or worse.

Ask the thousands of Kurds he butchered if Saddam was "a threat." Ask if Osirak had continued if that would have been a problem. But Mr. Bowen: you are losing and will continue to lose.I don't make juvenile theats like Clint. I simply note that you are a fringe.

Shazam Clit, tell the whole story: '.....The anti-Romney message may not resonate well with many conservatives who see the video as hostile to business, Wall Street and free trade -- criticisms that might be expected from the Obama White House rather than a fellow Republican.“When Mitt Romney Came to Town” focuses on four case studies of Bain’s acquisitions— the key result of which was “spectacular returns” for Bain through “stripping American businesses of assets, selling everything to the highest bidder, and often killing jobs for big financial rewards.”
The Romney team responded via spokesperson Andrea Saul.“Under President Obama, 25 million Americans are out of work, underemployed or have stopped looking for work. It’s puzzling to see Speaker Gingrich and his supporters continue their attacks on free enterprise. This is the type of criticism we've come to expect from President Obama and his left-wing allies at Moveon.org. Unlike President Obama and Speaker Gingrich, Mitt Romney spent his career in business and knows what it will take to turn around our nation’s bad economy.” .......'

Candidates continue to regurgitate the Republican mantra that taxes and regulation are the primary factors for job growth, despite two recent surveys and other evidence debunking this myth. Conservatives don't say that. What we DO say is, "taxes and regulations are the major inhibitors of job growth." subtle, bit important difference, and one that most liberals can't understand duento their inabi.ITT to understand the hard subjects, like math, science & engineering. Perry certainly didn't get much time to talk tonight. Even Huntsman was given more opportunities. It looks like it will be over for him in South Carolina. Huntsman's statement in Chinese, it was a perfect summary of his campaign - it lost the audience. I thought Santorum did well. Romney talks a lot, but I rarely come away with specifics as to what he plans to do. Newt strikes me as the best one who focuses on policy and challenging a biased press.

I really don't like it when Ron Paul calls people "chickenhawks." That is a term used by liberals, many of whom were defenders of Bill Clinton, who was a real-life draft-dodger. I agree that following the Eisenhower administration, US foreign policy has drawn the military sword too frequently. It was a point that Newt made tonight about the Islamist threat; it is not primarily a problem that can be solved by military action.

Clint| 1.8.12 @ 7:24AM

Funny, the great writer Colonel Tom Kratman thinks the Islamists are threats. He was a commander of an infantry battalion somewhere in the Suck. Unlike you, Clint, he served, and well.

You know Aaron your point about Romney debating the Socialist inquisitors was one small positive for Romney. , I think it is time for all Republicans on the stage to debate the Socialist inquisitors--that would be fun.

Red Phillips | 1.8.12 @ 9:25AM

Aaron, I agree that Paul tends to go up a few octaves when he gets emotional, and it is something his handlers should notice and try to correct. But someone who is obviously not supportive of his campaign pointing it out is a bit of a childish cheap shot, don't you think?

I do not understand why Newt is not fighting harder. He could win! If he fights for the protection of Isreal, The saction of marriage, and keeps the gut up for protecting our Nation againt Iran, and promiss to help get the acconnomy back on track. I am considered in the poor section, on disability, Husband drives a Big Rig and draws Social Security. I am 59 and he is 70. We want to vote Republican, but only if Newt runs. We need a back bone in the Country and he has it. It disturbs me that so many people judge his ability to be President because he has been married more than once. Do they know how many people have been married more than once? I am so glad that Iowa has so many perfect people,Who thinks they are good enough to throw the first stone. Think of whats good for our country, and not for for marital status. I am a Christian who has been married before. I'm sure glad Iowa isn't God. There would be no forgivness and all would be in Hell. Newt, you stand up and head forward for this election. Next time Romney puts you down, you remind him and the Nation what his religion has done to Women and Children. Sometime America needs to be reminded of what the Cults are in this Country.... I'm for Newt.

martin j smith| 1.8.12 @ 2:11PM

Good question why Newt does not attack more or for that matter why there is not more attacks on Romney and there needs to be more attacks on the Socialist inquisitors who ask questions from Obama.

I am a 91 yr old Great-Great Grandma who follows the current news closely. David Gregory did an superb job in this Sunday morn debate in asking specific questions and opening up the candidates so that we heard how each would react to situations better than any debate to this date!

No wonder Rick Perry didn't say much. How could he when he was not asked much. Totally unfair debate.

Maybe if Mitt gets in we can have more men running around with 6 or 7 wives. At least they know how to populate. Lets trade a musslem for a morman. Sounds great to me. Why do Americans keep kicking their own butts. This world is going to heck in a hand basket. Millions of dollars are being spent on this campain while a girl trying to finish college is living in a shelter. These Millionares could cars less what is happening to our Nation. So just keep lining their pockets, apparently they need it more than you do.
