Jindal Talk Continues

I discuss it more fully at CFIF, but it's worth noting that Rich Lowry reports that the "draft Jindal" talk has serious backers among conservative officeholders. In my CFIF post, I explain why this is bad news for Rick Perry (nobody would be talking about drafting his most prominent endorser if they think Perry himself is still viable) and also, in a roundabout way, perhaps good news for the likes of Rick Santorum, who, according both to Jim Antle and to Mike Huckabee and to Dick Morris seems poised for good things in Iowa's voting.

But back to Jindal: If Romney, Gingrich and Paul are the only three of the current candidates to "survive" Iowa, then I think the move to draft the Louisiana governor could pick up steam very, very quickly.

" Ron Paul’s “Tea Party” money bomb meets $4 million goal

Ron Paul (R-TX), a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, ended his “Tea Party” money bomb Sunday at midnight. Mr. Paul succeeded in meeting his fundraising goal of $4 million. The Paul campaign plans on using the grassroots donations for additional campaign activities in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina. With the donation ticker still climbing, Mr. Paul has raised more than $4,048,000 as of 9am EDT Monday.'

Yep, I gave TO THE MISSIONS in Catholic grade school also, and now some shister-lawyers are living in Hawaii doing high-fives on the beach with Barry from the collective money we all contributed [that they were awarded in legal fees from lawsuits against the Church], no doubt!!!!!!!!!

'......Ron Paul supporters are easy to recognize, their signature headgear, when properly applied also keeps fat from dripping on your grill and flaring up. Also his name is Barry.

Ron Paul supporters not only appear when his name is invoked 3 times, it drives them crazy, an admittedly short trip.

The Federal Reserve killed most of Ron Paul's supporters puppies.

Where do Ron Paul supporters have their meetups? A house of mirrors.

Ron Paul supporters never get sick and can only be killed by decapitating them. There can be/is only one.

When Ron Paul returns to the Earth, his followers believe he will restore the constitution so well that the ink will smell wet and also miraculously restore the moat around America to its pre-civil war glory.

To a Ron Paul supporter the first 10 amendments to the U.S. Constitution are collectively known as the Bill of WRONGS!

Every time a bell rings a Ron Paul supporter get his mouth very salivated.

Ron Paul supporters think everyone who doesn't support him fears him like they fear getting abducted by aliens, again.

When the feces found in the U.S. Capital was determined to be Ron Paul's, his supporters were quick to hail it the best idea, anywhere, ever and also delicious.

Some claim Ron Paul supporters spam online polls, the truth is they just all have the same I.P. address because... Hey! LOOK kittens!

Oldefarte| 12.26.11 @ 4:12PM

If the Republican Party's hopes rely on a last minute candidate [ie Jindal etc], then it's all over but the shouting [of Democrats, that is]!!!!!!

Dan| 12.26.11 @ 6:38PM

I disagree with that.

I'm convinced that Obama is so vulnerable that we could battle it all out at the Convention and still emerge victorious. The media would be sure to highlight this all as confusion and incoherence, but it would be political drama, and the victor that emerged, so as he's not establishment, would go clad in the mantle of REAL CHANGE, and for Americans right now, who are truly hurting, that would be of inestimable political benefit.

Obama is eminently vulnerable.

Just so long as the party doesn't go with Romney, for Romney won't campaign, and when Romney gets hit hard with everything mormon, all he'll do is run around and whine how unfair it all is.

old white guy| 12.27.11 @ 11:02AM

jindal does not meet the requirements of the constitution much like obama. keep giving the constitution the boot and you will soon lose the republic if is not lost already.

Why not? Jindal was born in Baton Rouge, LA in 1971. Rubio in Miami, FL, also in 1971. Both are 40 years old, and native (albeit first-generation) Americans. Admittedly, each man's parents were not naturalized until after his birth... is this the reason for your comment?

Sean| 12.26.11 @ 8:08PM

Ron Paul agrees with most of the Republican platform. He is closer to it than all the other candidates. IF Ron Paul isn't a Republican than neither is individual mandate Mitt or Global Warming Newt.

tonypal| 12.26.11 @ 8:57PM

Sean, Ron Paul makes a great deal of sense on many domestic issues. However, his Obama-like naivete regarding Iran is an automatic disqualifier to every clear thinking human being.

Oldefarte| 12.27.11 @ 12:05PM

Then if what you say is true [which it is not], then why is/has he semi-threatened to run for president as a third party candidate? Does that indicate a loyal Republican within the Republican Party? Why is he willing to destroy this country by possibly running as a third party or libertarian candidate, which will assure Obama's re-election??????????????

Occam's Tool| 12.27.11 @ 12:26PM

Really? Where is the legalization of Marijuana in the Republican platform?

9thID| 12.27.11 @ 12:29PM

Liberal-tarian Ron Paul is a social and national security Liberal. Paul is only one leg of Reagan's 3-legged-stool of conservativism (fiscal)...

Bob Grant| 12.26.11 @ 7:54PM

Meanwhile as the Republican party implodes at the worst possible moment and on different fronts (2 month payroll tax exemption and the primary), Obama's numbers are approaching 50 percent.

The fact that Ron Paul has even a sliver of a chance in Iowa tells me this party, like the country, is over the cliff.

Every last candidate is a B-rater, or worse. At a time when we need a solid candidate, we get this loser bunch.

tonypal| 12.26.11 @ 8:54PM

Sarah Palin said it last week, that it's not too late to get in the race. In fact, given the current crop of candidates, the time seems right for someone like a Bobby Jindal to make his move.

Romney is not a conservative and will get chewed up by Obama, Gingrich has too much baggage, Perry seems like he's dead in the water and no one else is gaining any traction. As for Ron Paul, just the fact that he has supporters like Clint is enough to convince me of his insanity.

Oldefarte| 12.27.11 @ 12:07PM

The ultimate ''''loser''''' will be the American taxpayers/income producers/solid citizens who will be economically/financially destroyed by four more years of Obama!!!!!!!!!!

" Possible Ron Paul Iowa Win Drives NeoCons to Apoplexy.

Rep. Ron Paul’s top-tier status heading into Iowa and New Hampshire means he definitely can’t be totally ignored by the major media, as he has been in the past. So the censors and blackout artists have been replaced by the smear bund. This past week they got pretty well revved up, but they’re still probably a long way from being in high gear.

As The New American's Jack Kenny noted here a couple of days ago in his article, “Campaign Could Get 'Downright Ugly' if Paul Wins Iowa,” the Big Government Republicans are sharpening their knives for a bloodfest.

But they’re not waiting for the results of the January 3, 2012 Iowa caucuses to get ugly."

No Tea Party group of any consequence has endorsed Ron Paul. Same goes for Pro-Life groups and social conservatives. The Paulestianians, like their Liberal cousins, try to co-opt labels and movements like the Tea Party, Conservatism, GOP, Constitution, etc. They are Liber-tarians...

Oldefarte| 12.27.11 @ 12:12PM

No, a Ron win in Iowa would be a cog in the wheel that eventually runs over destructively the Republican Party which represents the only hope for conservatism and survival of this country. Between Ron and Barry, this country is/will eventually finish swirling around the toilet bowl and finally disappear into the sewer!!!!!

I think Bobby Jindal is a great man but I remember listening to his public response to a speech given by Obama and the man looked like a deer caught in the headlights...he spoke flatly and hesitantly - totally uninspiring...he's doing a great job where he is and it would probably be good if he stayed there...

That was one single speech Florin. How does that speech compare with the totality of everything else he's said and done? Pretty poorly, I would imagine.

Redneck Cajun| 12.27.11 @ 2:25PM

The "Draft Jindal" movement makes sense only if you haven't paid attention to his disappointing first term as governor. Sure, he seems a capable enough administrator (although using his predecessor as the benchmark makes for a rather low standard). He is not a conservative however in the way that Tea Partiers would like to see. He talks the game but has not taken seriously the task of reorganizing state government to reduce it significantly. He is as much a Cronyist as any other politician. His ethics reforms were half-hearted at best and avoided anything that might seriously effect the administrative branch. Jindal spent the better part of his first four years in the other 49 states, so he went into the election with an enormous war chest.

And it bears repeating over and over again (even if it seems to be ignored) if you were impressed by the size of his landslide reelection, please note: not a single democrat of statewide repute ran against him. He was a shark in a goldfish bowl. Not a single debate among the candidates, with or without Jindal, was held. Louisiana is as red as a state can get short of outlawing the Donkeys completely. Hell, given the weakness of the opposition, he should have gotten Soviet sized reelection numbers.

Jindal would make a fine second tier cabinet secretary, but he is not the "Conservative" answer to the field that has already declared. Santorum and Bachmann are more conservative. I don't know why anyone thinks that Bobby J would be more electable than either of them.

bill| 12.27.11 @ 8:00PM

Jindal did miracle in LA. He balanced the budget four straight years, without raising taxes. He is a pro-life, pro-gun, and pro-marriage conservative.

Jindal should wait and take on Sen. Landrieu instead. She is vulnerable like Ben Nelson and may not seek her re-election bid. Jindal will be shoe-in as he crushed to victory as the governor of LA for another four years.

Jindal is an asset for GOP.
